This Film Nearly Self Destructed!

Advantages: The third film in the series.
Disadvantages: Cruise wrecked the pitch of the film with his personal life.

Based on the 1960's espionage TV series of the same name, the series of films have taken the story of Mission Impossible to a whole new level and an entire new audience. The original film ensured that a change of leadership from Jim Phelps to Ethan Hunt was taken and managed to hand the baton over to the next generation, the second being an all action yawn fest that was directed by John Woo with far too much slow motion and errors in continuity. ...
...to be the most controversial film of Tom Cruise's career so far. As soon as the film starts you know that a completely different approach to the story telling has been applied. Ethan Hunt is now involved in training rather than field work and has found the time to settle down and plans to take early retirement. The story starts at his engagement party; here he receives the obligatory phone call asking him to return to service as he is needed for ...

The Impossible Has Been Achieved

Advantages: Good Action, Mainly Good Acting, Exciting, Tense
Disadvantages: Cruise = Dull

Ethan Hunt has quit the life of a grand master espionage agent. He wants a normal life and had built up a relationship with the stunning and intelligent Julia, they are together and he trains prospective agents away from the danger and pain of a life as an undercover agent. When one of his recruits is trapped in combat and being tortured for information he is forced to jump back into the murky world of an international spy. When his home life is ...
...has to face up to his responsibilities and go after the super villain Owen Davian. But as the stakes get increasingly higher, the CIA after him and his whole happiness on the line will he ever be able to restore some normaility into his life? I walked into Mission Impossible 3 with dwindling expectations. The original was a fun piece of escapism, but hardly worthy of a sequel and much less a third in the already over tired action genre. Fortunately ...

MIssion Impossible...Never

Advantages: JJ Abrams, Tom Cruise, Philip Seymour Hoffman. better than the M:I II
Disadvantages: Ridiculous in parts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mission: Impossible 3. The movie star that guarantees global box office success has teamed up with the director who is now known to create small screen phenomena. Yes Thomas Cruise Mapother IV, aka Tom Cruise, has joined forces with Jeffrey Jacob Abrams, (better known as J.J. Abrams) creator of Alias and Lost, for the third installment of the multi-million dollar franchise. Question is, will Abrams make the transition from TV to movies or will he ...
...bloody ridiculous, there's no doubting Mission: Impossible III is entertaining, great escapism and a cracking watch. Sure there are scenes reminiscent of True Lies, The Matrix, but unlike those and many more there are no religious sub-texts or hidden deep meanings, it's just… all about the action. Abrams has proved that there is no way in the world that with this effort, he'll do a Schumacher and wreck the franchise. If anything he has improved on ...

Oh Well, Maybe We Could Share A Jail Cell Together

Advantages: A decent third film in the set
Disadvantages: Tries to be something it isnt in places

It has been 6 years since Tom Cruise last graced our screens as Ethan Hunt in Mission Impossible 2. At the beginning of May he returned for the 3rd instalment in the series, ten years after the original brought Hunt to our screen's the first time round. Cruise has also taken a step up to not only star in MI:3 but also take a producers credit for his latest all action adventure. I decided that as I had nothing to do this morning that I'd go and see ...
...2. Cruise resumes the mantle of Ethan Hunt, now a training officer for new recruits to the IMF (Impossible Mission Force). Having met the woman of his dreams he took a step away from active duty, but when one of his prodigies goes missing he returns to aid in the rescue attempt. They track her to a warehouse and Hunt and his team go in after her to rescue her from a vicious arms dealer (Phillip Seymour Hoffman). When it doesn't all go according ...

"Welcome back brother"

Advantages: Fantastic action sequences
Disadvantages: It's obviously not perfect

Now if you've read my reviews on the first two Mission Impossible films then you will already know that I am a great fan of them and find the fact that the films tells an intelligent story very intriguing. As you can imagine therefore Mission Impossible 3 is also a member of my DVD collection and is a film that has an outing into my DVD player rather frequently. ***** BASIC DETAILS***** Mission Impossible 3 was released in 2006 and has a film rating ...

How can he refuse when the girl in question is his former protégée Lindsey Farris who has been kidnapped by the evil dealer Owen Davian his deadliest adversary ...

MI3 (2006)

Advantages: clever action sequences
Disadvantages: They had to blow up such a nice car.

...(2000) the sequel was produced. Mission: Impossible II was directed by John Woo and featured Tom Cruise as its leading man. This movie however, was not much like the t.v. show or like the first MI. It was more like a bootleg version of a bond film. Going for style and lacking all substance, it was as average as action movies get. Now about six years later, we have the third part in this story. MI3 is directed by J.J. Abrams famous for contributing ...
...also helped pen a movie I fairly enjoyed called "Joyride". In Mission Impossible 3, we find supa'spy Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) as a retired IMF field leader. He is far from active duty and enjoying it. He is now training new IMF agents to become supa' spies like he once was. In a change of events, he is suddenly ripped away from the family life that he had just began to enjoy, to be confronted with a international weapons dealer that has a reputation ...

More Action Than Oprah

Advantages: Entertaining, Good Action
Disadvantages: Still those silly face masks

So summer is soon upon us and with comes a plethora of Hollywood blockbusters full of bang for your buck. Of course as the ideas well is running a little dry in tinsel town you'll see a lot of sequels being rolled out. This summer is no different with instalments of X-Men; Pirates of the Caribbean and of course Mission Impossible III. Fresh from a year of tabloid print, scientology and vomit inducing outbursts on Oprah, Tom returns to his cash cow ...
...first Mission Impossible film was ok but a tad confusing. The second film was quite annoying and pretty dull with a crap villain. Surprisingly it's third time lucky as MI:3 is an enjoyable popcorn muncher. In this one, Hunt has gotten himself a girlfriend and is on the brink of marriage. Of course his future wife has no idea of his career and soon IMF is calling upon him to undertake an impossible mission. He and his assembled crew trail Owen Davian ...

M:i:3 - Best so far, but maybe the last

Advantages: Spectacular stunts and effects, best story, cracking twisty plot
Disadvantages: Maybe the best its going to get

Tom Cruises best movie...I am not so sure. It is probably the best of the 3 so far...but it was so hard to grade this. I wanted to give it 3 stars, or satisfactory, but that really doesnt do it justice, its better than that, but 4 stars??? Ok, the storyline is the best so far without a doubt. It really gallops along and is full (and I do mean full!) of twists and turns. Theres the obligatory spectacular stunts and pyrotecnics for this kind of film ...
...it is about this actor in this movie, he hardly has more than 3 lines during it, but he always adds such sparkle to all of the Mission Impossible series. On that note, Simon Pegg is in here! He plays a computer nerd at IMF, always a treat to have a Brit alongside the Hollywood greats. The story revolves, loosely, around the disappearance of an agent Ethan Hunt has trained in his new role of spy teacher and her mission into Berlin. Shes taken hostage ...

A good weekend popcorn movie

Advantages: A Tom Cruise movie
Disadvantages: Romantic scenes a bit weak

We rented Mission Impossible 3 on the weekend and it's a good weekend "I feel like watching an action movie" entertainment. ~The Film~ Ethan Hunt is engaged to be married. Hunt has retired from the field and is teaching new recruits, but is drawn back to rescue one of his pupils (Keri Russell), backed up by a crack team (Ving Rames, Maggie Q, and Jonathan Rhys Meyers) while trying to keep his mission secret from his fiancee, played by Michelle ...
...and thinks there is nothing to be gained by telling her). The baddie Owen Davian, is an arms dealer played by Phillip Seymour Hoffman. I won't say anything more about the plot as I don't want to give anything away. The early scenes showing the engagement are a little weak. (There is an amusing scene, where he is boring the pants of some women at the engagement party, telling them nerdy anorak stuff and the women react thrilled saying "I'd marry him!", ...

Another Impossible Mission?

Advantages: Good action sequences
Disadvantages: A bit predictable

Six years after we last caught up with agent Ethan Hunt, he finds his way back onto the big screen for this big budget sequel. Having left behind his spy days in exchange for a more settled in house role as an FBI trainer, Ethan is now settling up for marital bliss with partner Julia Meade. However, when one of his trainees goes missing in action, Ethan is called upon to bring in dangerous arms dealer Owen Davian who is responsible for the death ...

He must locate the mysterious object known only as Rabbit Foot to save himself and Julia and to put himself back on the right side of his peeved authorities. After the long winded and overly confusing MI2, its nice to see Ethan and his team back on solid ground in this simple but ...

This tape will self-destruct in five seconds...

Advantages: If you like action movies you gonna love it...
Disadvantages: If you don't, you'll hate it...

Complementing its title, the third movie of the series "Mission Impossible" reveal itself an impracticable mission during a period that involved several directors, script changes and enough time to Tom Cruise meet, engage and become father of a little baby girl with the actress Katie Holmes. This adapted screenplay of the TV Series with the same name is probably the most interesting and spectacular. The three movies only have really in common Tom ...
...Ving Rhames as Luther Stickel, the nucleus of the IMF team, and of course the tag line "this tape will self-destruct in five seconds" followed by the "little" song more hummed in the television's history. In the first movie, suspense master Brian De Palma disrespects the most loved character of the TV Series, Jim Phelps. In the second, John Woo creates an espionage movie, a comedy of sequences of "hilarious" action, (some of the things you see even ...

A little too much?

Advantages: High action spectacle.
Disadvantages: A little too far fetched. Tom Cruise' ego.

Tom Cruises' character 'Ethan Hunt' is an IMF agent quitting work to be wed to his new found love Julia 'Michelle Monaghan', who has no idea about his past (and soon to be future) business field. She has an accredited job role working in a hospital, and at this time thinks everything is going well. However, an earlier trainee of Ethan's is now being kept in captivity and is being tortured by an evil vendor in Berlin named 'Davian'. Ethan's guilt, ...
...of him. His plans to retire and settle down is suddenly halted, as he is eventually talked round by his former boss - Billy Crudup - to go in and lead the rescue mission of the trainee - Keri Russel. Along with most of the other action scenes of the film, the rescue mission is an extremely over the top, unrealistic attempt. The practically passed out, tortured Keri Russel is brought back to super human strength with one injection of adrenaline turning ...

Mission Impossible 3...The best yet

Advantages: From start to finish it's pure action
Disadvantages: Special features are hardly worth it

The third installment in the mission impossible series promises to be action packed and the best MI movie yet....but does it deliver? The film starts off introducing Ethans new fiance a pretty young nurse who is completely oblivious to Ethans real job. Unlike the other 2 movies Ethan Hunt is now a teacher . He teaches other potential IMF agents. He is lured back into action when one of his pupils becomes captured. He faces his worst enemy yet...a ...
...from Rome to Shanghai as he tries to rescue the agent. Unfortunately Ethans girlfriend gets wrapped up in it when she is kidnapped in a bid to get Ethan to help steal 'the Rabbits Foot' in order to save his girlfriend. Unlike the other 2 mission impossible films this one is more focussed on Ethans relationship. However the movie has action from start to finish and some great plot twists. So in answer to my inital question does it deliver...oh yes ...

True Lies featuring Tom Cruise

Advantages: None at all
Disadvantages: Entire movie stolen from True Lies

Wow. What a weak plot. Ethan Hawke (Tom Cruise returning to the role for a 3rd outing) gets married and the bad guy captures his wife so he is left to try and rescue her. And the rest of the plot is an incredibly weak rip off from True Lies. That's sinking pretty low, not only stealing the plot from an Arnie film but stealing a plot from a film that's actually better than yours. Mission Impossible 1 and 2 were excellent films with good plots and ...
...Sheckley idea from a very surreal book called Mindswap (which I bet they never paid him for either). Your wife not knowing your a spy is pretty much lifted wholesale from True Lies and it dismayed me at how much of the plot of True Lies was reused in this film. The scene on the raised freeway being shot at by a plane yet again another idea stolen from True Lies. Simon Pegg's character seemed shoe horned into this film and totally didn't feel like ...

Ethan Hawke is Back!

Advantages: Good acting performances, Action scenes, Special Effects and the famous theme tune
Disadvantages: Slightly predictable

Tom Cruise blasts back into action as IMF agent Ethan Hunt who, with a little help from old friend Luther Stickell (Ving Rhames), must take on a deadly new adversary in the shape of Owen Davian (Philip Seymour Hoffman)... Really good film. Did not expect the third film to be so good-the theme tune gets you straight into it! Tom Cruise once again gives a great performance. Philip Seymour Hoffman also gives a strong performance. This addition to the ...
...little extra details being more defined. Action scenes are bigger and better, with a lot of tension and suspense being created throughout. Some scenes are over the top but thats what's expected with Mission Impossible. This film will get you hooked and you will not get bored. 8 and a half / 10. ...
