Advantages: It has a finish Disadvantages: lots, see op
Your mission if you choose to accept, is to watch this film. It’s not quite a mission impossible task, but it is mission difficult, predictable and trite.
I enjoyed the original Mission Impossible. It was action packed, full of suspense and twists, with a good unpredictable plot. The return of spy Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) in this film, is a disappointment. If I like action films I can suspend disbelief, but not to this one. I found myself wondering ... ...than the Bosnian war. How a car can be blown up on a wooden bridge and the wooden bridge can stay intact. Why Tom Cruises’s character wasn’t dead after yet enough surely fatal activity. As you may have guessed I didn’t like this film.
The plot centres around deadly virus Kimara, a super duper flu vaccine gone wrong that could seriously destroy Tom’s pretty face before painfully killing him. A scientist is on a plane with this virus and it’s antidote ...

Advantages: Great directing, great action stunts, good story, great acting. Disadvantages: None!
Another excellent film that I have recently purchased on DVD, is Mission Impossible 2. Not only is it a great action movie, reminding me sometimes of other great movies, like The Matrix and James Bond, but it has a fairly good storyline, as well as a bit of lovey dovey stuff.
Tom Cruise is back playing Ethan Hunt, our Mission Impossible hero. Sequels are so much better when the original star is cast.

They have also developed a cure for this (Bellerophon), and Doctor Nekhorvich learns that they plan to release Chimera into the population so that they can make huge profits on the cure, Bellerophon.
He informs the head of Impossible Mission Force, Swanbeck (played by Anthony Hopkins), that he needs an IMF escort for the disease and it’s cure, ...

Advantages: Good action, Tom Cruise is good Disadvantages: Weak story and some poor cast
‘This is not mission difficult, this is mission impossible.’ Not a bad quote from the film, after all this is supposed to be the best of the best in the spying world. Mission Impossible 2 follows on from the original film, with Tom Cruise as the best spy in the world facing the toughest assignments. Just the film does not turn out to be the best of the best in the film world, despite some decent stunts and Cruise in there it just does ... ...Cruise is Ethan Hunt, top spy for the IMF to bust worldwide terrorism and anything wrong with the world. This time he is out to stop former colleague and spy Sean Ambrose (Dougray Scott) from unleashing a new and deadly killer virus on the world. Their fiendishly brilliant plan this time is to release the virus that unless treated within 20 hours results in cell destruction in the blood leaving a very unpleasant and quick death. In league with Ambrose ...

Advantages: Red hot stunts and action sequences (watch out for the motorbikes!) Disadvantages: Not so hot acting or plotline
Your mission reader ... should you choose to accept it ... is to watch this film and not laugh. Seriously!
I failed (badly) in this on the very first scene with Cruise dangling from the rock face. Sorry, but it just looked so silly that I had to laugh out loud at it. It’s so over the top that you cannot take it too seriously. That, in a nutshell, is the best way to approach this film. If you want to dissect the plot and critique the acting ... ...If, on the other hand, you want a cracking action film, full to the brim with outrageous stunts and explosions then you will have a blast. It follows on from the previous MI film with only two of the characters reprising their roles, Tom Cruise as Ethan Hunt and Ving Rhames (in a rather more active role this time) as Luther Strickell. The Plot ****** It’s not really all that important in the scheme of things (hey, when was a James Bond plot ...

Advantages: Good action film, enjoyable Disadvantages: None
Having read many of the reviews for this film it was interesting to see it on video and compare. Many reviews had spoken of it as being disappointing and not credible as opposed to being incredible. Well actually I enjoyed it. It is probably better to watch it without preconceptions and just enjoy it for what it is an enjoyable action movie.
Tom Cruise is not one of my favourite actors I have to say. He always seems a little too good and too clever ... ...quite passable, after all it is a role in which you have to suspend belief anyway so you may as well do it watching Tom Cruise as anybody. Thandie Newton plays the love interest with the inevitable twist in her past. I would not be able to name anything she has ever done before or since but she again fulfilled what was needed.
The film was directed by John Woo who has a penchant for these increasingly action packed films. The films are also dramatic ...

I am sure you all saw the trailer of this film, with Tom Cruise dangling from a cliff, high-octane stuff and loads of explosions. Advantages: Some great extra’s Disadvantages: Some predictable moments
If only the DVD of the first film was as attractive as this DVD, I’d get it right now, some good extra’s, not a bad film, and plenty of action.
I never used to like Tom Cruise, but these days I seem to quite like his films, as I had watched Mission Impossible (which confused me the first time I saw it), and quite liking it, seeing this in a second hand shop for £10, meant I just had to get it.
This film as with the first, centre’s ... ...on the old TV series, Mission Impossible, not something I’ve watched, much like a number of films coming out these days that’s been based on old TV series’ (Lost In Space, Charlies Angels, The Avengers, etc.), Some I’ve watched others I’ve only heard about, so I can’t compare it, only give an opinion of how I liked the film itself.

The one thing that stood out about Mission Impossible One was that I didnt have a clue what was going on. Well, they tried again with MI2, but despite much face and voice swapping, they didnt get me this time.
Characters
Well, as we all know, Tom Cruise plays Ethan Hunt, international superstar (ish) spy. He's pretty cool. Good rock climber. Then we have assorted background people, like Hannibal Lecter, Cruise's lover, Cruise's mates, and the bad ... ...their parts pretty well, especially the bird.
The Story
A drug company has developed a virus which kills people very quickly - kind of a concentrated flu. Its called Chimera or something similar. Anyway, an ex-spy is planning to buy it, and to get to him, they use a professional thief who is his ex-girlfriend. And, yep, she's gorgeous. And yep, Tom Cruise nails her. And thats all i'm going to tell you. Except watch out for face masks - they crop ...

Having recently won a DVD player, for my first few buys I looked for some movies that I thought would look good on Widescreen TV using DVD, and I had heard that Mission Impossible 2 was a pretty good movie, which good special effects, and as I hadn't already seen it, I figured why not?

This review is for the Region 1 (US) edition of the DVD. Just to clarify this Opinion, there are plenty of reviews about the actual film MI2 in the films section, and seeing as this is in the DVD section I will mainly describe the DVD itself, e.g sound quality, picture quality and features etc.

Advantages: Possibly the best single-disc DVD release to date offers fans excellent value Disadvantages: A misguided and offensively brainless film, not enough chapters on the disc.
Once it had been announced that John Woo would be directing the second installment of the M:I franchise, it was pretty clear what type of approach the new film would take. Woo, the celebrated master of modern Hong Kong cinema during the late 80s and early 90s, subsequently brought his distinctive style to Hollywood...with mixed results at first. Hard Target was blighted by studio interference, while Broken Arrow at least marked a moderately successful ... ...not until Face/Off, however, that the director fully captured the essence of what had made his name in the first place, and Woo himself was the first to acknowledge that. Woo's settling-in process had quite possibly been eased by the presence of a post-Pulp Fiction John Travolta, whose reputation at that point was sky-high, in Broken Arrow. The promise of that movie was followed by the sensational Face/Off, a ridiculous-yet-inspired visage-swapping ...

Advantages: Good DVD Disadvantages: Not as good as the first film
As the sequel to a popular first movie, how does MI:2 fare?
The plot is bog standard for a film of this type. Rather than opt for the clever spy film style of the first Mission Impossible, the second film is all out action. It doesn't even pretend to be as sophisticated as the first, which depending on what your preferences are could be good or bad (more on my view later). The film stars Tom Cruise, Thandie Newton and Dougray Scott, and was directed ... ...parts, although Tom Cruise is certainly the main star. He has been criticised for being a little wooden and lifeless in this film, and while I agree he isn’t going to win an oscar for his performance it isn’t bad either. Poor Anthony Hopkins on the other hand…………. The obligatory evil guy Sean Ambrose (Dougray Scott) is an a renegade IMF agent who steals a sample of a deadly virus, Chimera. The good guy Ethan Hunt ...

Advantages: Great stunts. Disadvantages: Unrealistic plot, too many flaws overall.
The rap on the first Mission: Impossible movie was that nobody could understand the plot. Still, the picture was a worldwide blockbuster, so the problems of lucidity couldn't have been that troubling, right? At least that's the attitude seemingly copped by the makers of Mission: Impossible 2, which free-falls into another barely comprehensible storyline right from the start. In its bare bones, the plot shouldn't be as murky as the first film. A scientist ... ...in the Warren Beatty vein: Mission: Impossible 2 lacks a vision of how the whole enchilada is supposed to blend together. Neither credited screenwriter Robert Towne nor Cruise seems to realize that capping a scene by having a spy yank off a lifelike face-mask is effective once, maybe twice, in a single film, but gets damned redundant when it happens every half-hour. The desperation of just getting the story straight becomes obvious in scenes where ...

Advantages: Lots on the disc, great film, action scenes are phenomenal Disadvantages: 15 certificate is high in my opinion
I didn't enjoy the original Mission Impossible film all that much. I thought that it was trying to copy the Bond films too much in its style and its storyline was rater weak. This one, however, is an awful lot better.
Less of an action film and more of a high-speed thriller, MI2 features agent Ethan Hunt (played by Tom Cruise) who is trying to save the world of a deadly killer virus that was created in a laboratory. Once injected with it, you have ... ...involve you enough, there are constant twists and special effects that will have you so confused that you won't remember what is going on at times.
The acting is superb throughout. There are a range of emotions needed throughout the movie (although telling you why would only spoil the movie for you if you were to watch it, so I won't tell you), and these are all displayed brilliantly with all the actors.
The storyline is clever in that it incorporates ...
