Advantages: Great Christmas movie and quite charming Disadvantages: None really
I recently bought 'Miracle of 34th Street' on DVD after catching it on Sky over the Christmas period - the main reason being that having caught the end of it I was reminded of what a lovely movie it is and also that although it is a Christmas film, it really is watchable at any time of the year.
The movie is a remake of the 1947 movie of the same name starring Maureen O'Hara, Edmund Gwenn and a young Natalie Wood. Now that movie is worth a review ... ...it here. I'll only say that although the 1947 version is a classic, this 1994 remake gives it a good run for its money!
At its heart, the movie is a challenge to the consumer-led world of today to keep the faith in something that is not driven by the almighty dollar, pound, yen etc etc - in this case, Santa Claus and this is shown through the eyes of Susan Walker (Mara Wilson), a six-year-old living with her mother in New York. Susan's mum, Dorey ...

...Christmas spirit, so we rented Miracle on 34th Street, a Christmas film that I’d never actually got round to watching before, but had heard lots of good things about. == Synopsis == Cole’s department store is in trouble, it has just warded off one attempted buy out, but the claws are out from their opposition, and they’re determined to do whatever they can to own that shop. At the same time as the news of the failed buy out hits the papers, Dorey ... ...for Doris, her Santa is a drunk and as far from the image of Santa as you could get. But as luck would have it, an old man who goes by the name of Kriss Kringle just happens to be passing, and bare and uncanny resemblance to Santa, Doris randomly approaches him in the middle of the park as he’s leaving the parade area, and offers him the job, which he accepts. Kriss makes a good impression at the store, and on Dorey’s daughter Sarah, although Doris ...

I love this movie. It's my favourite all time Christmas movie! It's just perfect. I like how in a way Susan portrays adults , who don't believe in father Christmas , and at the end of the movie everyone believes in Santa Claus. It's a magical film , which is extra special when watched on Christmas Eve! I love the Christmassy feeling you get when watching this movie. It's definitely a feel ...

Advantages: refreshing, sad and comic Disadvantages: slightly unbelieveable
...can feel like that again. Miracle on 34th street renews your faith in the true spirit of christmas and the magic that can happen then.
The modern version, taken from the 1940s classic, developes the story into a modern setting with ease. You are made to feel a part of it and by the end you too are wishing that he will be found to be Santa Clause.
The merry story is added by brilliant performences, none more so than by the most important character, ... ...His talent shines as always.
This film is ideal not only for christmas but any time someone is down as it restores your faith in human kind.
Most of all kids at christmas will love it as Santa wins overall, over the nasty ones who don't believe in him, a must see. ...

...of the 1947 version of miracle on 34th street.
Six-year-old Susan (Mara Wilson) has doubts about childhood's most enduring miracle - Santa Claus. Her mother told her the "secret" about Santa a long time ago, so Susan doesn't expect to receive the most important gifts on her Christmas list.
But after meeting a department store Santa (Kris kringle) who's convinced he's the real thing, Susan is given the most precious gift of all, something to believe ... ...you really believe.
A great film for an afternoon in the warm with the children.
I first saw this film at the pictures, taking my young brother and sister's and loved it, mind you I have to say after seeing the original its not as good. I now own it on Dvd £9.99 at Tesco.
Its christmas colourful and a vibrant film and the actual story line of child not believing in santa is good and watch able, but when they bring in the romantic man meets woman ...

Advantages: Leaves you feeling content and cheered. Disadvantages: Can be tricky explaining to the children why you are watchinga christmas fil in summer.
The magic of christmas is brought to life in this film. Whether the original or the remake, it does not matter. Seldom is a remake as good as the original but not in this case. Richard Attenborough is Santa personified! There are minor changes to the original story with the young Natalie Wood but it is just to bring the story up to modern times yet it makes no differece to the plot. There is a little girl whose mother has told her there is no Father ... ...as the festive fellow at the department store she is a non-believer. The daughter, being a chip of the mother's block, remains sceptical throughout most of the film yet is gradually won over by the charm and lovibilty of the old man as is her mother.
There is plenty of festive cheer and even a bit of love flying around in this film and it seriously makes you remember when you were young and how you believed...... ...

What a film! This is incredible and really is a great film to get you into the Christmas mood. I'll admit I am a huge fan of just about every aspect of this film, Christmas, New York and a love story. All of which are in this, and it makes you feel brilliant at the end of it, so good you just want to watch it again.
I watch it once a year when we put the Christmas decorations up and I absolutely adore it and it never seems to get old or dated at ... ...love it. The actors really suit their roles and Mara Wilson (Susan Walker) I don't know how you can be such a good actor that young it is incredible. You can lose yourself in this film and get completely taken in. It really makes you believe (you'll understand once you've watched it). From the beginning to the end it manages to be christmassy even in the darker moments and really represents Christmas.
Overall, you'll love it! No matter who you are ...

...right at last especially with Miracle on 34th Street.
A remake of the black and white film (sorry can't remember the year that was made) and the story is about a man that a department store in New York, Coles, hires for Xmas called Kris Kringle.
He has to prove to the nation that he IS the real Santa Claus.
Based around a mother and daughter, the mother works at Coles, Mrs Walker and her daughter (Susan Walker) soon becomes friends with Mr Kringle ... ...an attorney and soons starts to believe.
The main part of the story revolves around a court case where Mr Kringle (Richard Attenborough) has to prove that he is the real Santa Claus before they end up putting him a nuthouse, and soon the whole nation "Believes".
A lovely story for all ages. Can be watched time and again, and its just been on Channel 5 (yesterday). By the end of the film you will believe! Thanks for reading and Merry Xmas! ...

this film is great for all the family there are alot of christmas films out but my 3 year old son and i love this one best as santa doesn't change from the man he normally is he just puts on his suit which i feel makes it more believable my son now believes santa could live down the street so he must be good the costoms for santa are wonderful not just the normal plain red suit but wonderful detail the only bad thing is that when i took my son to ... ...he did not have his nice suit on this took some explaining the reindeers in this film are real which makes it better as my son has picked up on some films saying its not santa because its not a real reindeer this is the sort of film that leaves you feeling warm and fuzzy ...
