The science-fiction thriller MINORITY REPORT, directed by Steven Spielberg and starring Tom Cruise, is based on a short story by renowned writer Philip K. Dick. In the year 2054,...
more...in Washington, D.C., murder has been eliminated thanks to Precrime, a program that uses the visions of three psychics, called Precogs (an abbreviation for precognitive thinkers), to arrest and imprison would-be murderers before they have a chance to kill. Tom Cruise plays John Anderton, a Precrime enforcer who believes in the system for his own personal reasons--years back his young son was abducted, and he has dealt with the loss by becoming a high-strung Precrime officer. The director of Precrime (Max von Sydow) is eager to take the program national, and feels threatened by an ambitious federal agent (Colin Farrell) who is bent on finding a flaw in the system. When Anderton finds himself accused of the future murder of a man he's never met, his faith in Precrime is instantly shaken. He goes on the run, and is trailed by the relentless Precrime police. In the tradition of BLADE RUNNER (also based on a Dick story), MINORITY REPORT is a dark, brooding vision of the future. Spielberg expertly mixes thrilling chase and suspense sequences (the best of which involves Anderton being pursued by eye-scanning mechanical spiders) and stunning special effects with a challenging look at society's willingness to sacrifice privacy and the notion of free will for convenience and security. MINORITY REPORT is a thought-provoking and exciting film that ranks with Spielberg's best.

Ruuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuun!
Review of Minority Report (Wide Screen) by feniak

Advantages: Plot, performances, action scenes
Disadvantages: Some in-cohesive parts

...Tom Cruise, Philip Dick => Minority Report. This is very good team giving us a great movie. Having had a bad experience with ‘The Impostor’ which Philip dick wrote, I wasn’t very sure about this film before I started watching it. The calendar states 2054 and in Washington suburbs there is an operation taking place by Pre-Crime Division. This was created after the discovery of a method where are future crimes are forecasted. With this method, ‘criminals’ ... Read review

Cruise + Spielberg = Summer Blockbuster?
Review of Minority Report (Wide Screen) by ukedge87

Advantages: Superbly written with tremondous depth.
Disadvantages: Failure at the box office. Over complicated?

Minority Report Review Cruise and Spielberg. Those two names alone will make a movie buff’s heart skip a beat and stomach fill with butterflies when the word summer block buster is added to the sentence, and yet in 2002 when the duo released their predicted hit the box office did nothing but fizzle. Spielberg had just come off another huge disappointment with the title of AI, but was still reeling in the success of Saving Private Ryan from 1999. ... Read review

Always keep running.
Review of Minority Report (Wide Screen) by drewboy

Advantages: Plot, acting, special effects
Disadvantages: Advertising, DVD features a bit boring.

It’s just a normal day at the office for John Anderton when out of the blue, the pre-cons have a vision about a murder of passion about to be committed somewhere in the Washington area. As these crimes are not pre-meditated, this leaves the Pre-Crime police force, and John himself, little time to sort through the images given to them from the pre-cog trio and get to the scene to stop the murder from happenening. Thankfully, the experience of John ... Read review

Diamond review   Minor Masterpiece
Review of Minority Report (Wide Screen) by willgould

Advantages: Brilliant, a real return to past Spielberg excellence.
Disadvantages: Momentary lapses of style, nothing serious.

...is good to see that Minority Report uses its setting to good effect but does not go overboard with it and manages to be a Crime/ Sci Fi movie rather than just a Sci Fi. When I heard that Spielberg was making another Sci Fi, I shuddered with memories of A.I still fresh in my mind. But I was relived to see that he had not attempted to make another Kubrick hybrid movie since his last attempt was such a terrible blend of Spielberg sentiment and Kubrickian ... Read review

Review of Minority Report (Wide Screen) by LostWitness

Advantages: Imaginative and visually entertaining
Disadvantages: Tom Cruise is over-rated

...occurrences are known as a minority report, and standard procedure in the pre-crime unit is to delete the files from the system as any perceived lack of reliability could result in the closure of the pre-crime unit. The only trace of the original minority report is found in the telepaths themselves. But how will Anderton retrieve the master file of his own minority report? With the federal agents and the pre-crime unit hot on his trail he must use ... Read review

A fast-paced thoughtful Hitchcockian thriller
Review of Minority Report (Wide Screen) by Crazy-Christian

Advantages: It mixes several genres and is successful at each
Disadvantages: Still thinking.......nope!

John Anderton (Tom Cruise) is chief of the Pre-Crime section. It is 2054 and for the past 6 years murder has been a thing of the past thanks to the efforts of three "pre-cogs", who can see the future. This has wiped-out premeditated murder but ‘crimes of passion’ and the like can still occur and Anderton’s squad has limited time to track down the perpetrators and stop them before they commit the crime. But what happens when the next ... Read review

Advantages: good concept
Disadvantages: script, direction, selling old special effects in a new movie

Last weekend was a long one as and well what better time to catch a few movies which are on in the theatre. So what have we ? Oh yes Tom Cruise giving the readers a serious and a tense look out of the newspapers. And yes there was the name of the great Steven Spielberg. So off we went. We aslo had the option to watch Men in Black Part 2 but then we decided agaiinst it as the combination Of Steven Spielberg and Tom cruise was unbeatable. ****************************************************** Interesting ... Review of Minority Report (Wide Screen) by Borg

Advantages: Action packed well directed
Disadvantages: None

This is one of those action-packed, thrill-crammed and effect-brimmed films that you just know you are going to love. You don’t have to read too much into the plot (even though it is plausible and well thought out), you don’t have to concentrate too hard. All that is required of you is to place your bum on seat and enjoy. And with big names like Tom Cruise and Steven Spielberg, you are not going to be let down, are you? Nope – ... Read review

Review of Minority Report (Wide Screen) by ruth_cole

Advantages: see op
Disadvantages: see op

...I think my praise of Minority Report is going to fit right in with the other good things that have been said about it, and with reason: This is a great film. Did we expect anything less from Spielberg? Washington DC, 2054, and "pre-cognitives" can predict murder before it happens. It is a six-year project on the brink of nationalisation and Det. John Anderton (TOM CRUISE) is the best in the business at bringing in the criminals before the crime ... Read review

Advantages: Visuals, Story, Cruise/Spielberg acting/directing out of type

...summed it nicely by saying Minority Report = AI – Pinocchio + Blade Runner. The supporting cast is mostly excellent from the Max Von Sydow (him of Flash Gordon fame and not so great Judge Dredd fame) and Samantha Morton as the Pre-Cog Agatha is rather haunting. Colin Farrell plays the investigator so well you cant help but hate him! Comparisons will undoubtedly be made to the other Philip K Dick short-story based movie, Blade Runner as they ... Read review

...thing and agree to see Minority Report. I had seen the trailer so was delighted we couldn’t get into the usual theatre but had to pay the £10 a seat to go into the deluxe cinema where I would at least be able to get a decent snooze in a big comfy chair. So why the low expectations? Not that I have strong thoughts on Steven Spielberg films, or even on Philip K Dick stories, but rather, I was convinced that this would be an action-meets-science-fiction ... Read review

The One
Review of Minority Report (Wide Screen) by 3rdRockSatan

Advantages: Interesting concept | Nice action
Disadvantages: Plot holes | Underdeveloped characters | Drawn out

This film was going to be big. It had the usual big concept of a future world bent on Big Brother style security but, more importantly, it had two of the biggest gunners of Hollywood side-by-side. Spielberg and Cruise. The film was bound to generate enough interest on this premise alone, nevermind about the story, after all with this incredible movie duo how could the movie fail? Reviews were all fairly positive, apart from the infamous Harry Knowles ... Read review

NOTHING MINOR TO REPORT
Review of Minority Report (Wide Screen) by kleft

Advantages: Great plot
Disadvantages: Slightly weak in places

...not watched any TV recently, Minority Report has only been advertised every other minute. Having massive names such as Spielberg and Cruise does tend to give it that slight nudge forward in terms of hype and marketing. Despite being a moderate Cruise fan, but having avoided wasting my time watching what I thought was a sickly Vanilla Sky (despite having the heavenly Penelope Cruz-swooooon, in it), I thought this looked promising enough to warrant ...
