Kansas City Little Big Mickey Blue Eyes

Advantages: Decent comedy, nice take on traditional gangster movies, James Caan is excellent
Disadvantages: The ending is a bit obvious

...christened Kansas City Little Big Mickey Blue Eyes) how to talk like a gangster. James Fox also plays the role of the slightly bemused senior partner at Cromwell's to a tee, bringing a touch of cinematic class to proceedings. The ending is quite well done, but the you'll probably see the big twist coming a little way off. That aside, this is actually a pretty good effort - nothing outstanding, and it didn't win any Oscars, but it's an enjoyable way ...

Behind blue eyes

Advantages: Caan, Fox
Disadvantages: Grant's rep

...for him. We approached Mickey Blue Eyes with a fair amount of trepidation therefore and weren't expecting to be impressed. We couldn't believe it when we actually found ourselves laughing out loud at this pretty enjoyable film. Grant comes over as standard Hugh Grant, stereotypically English, but is really quite amusing (ooh, that's a bit strong!) in this film in the role of an English auctioneer in new York City who falls in love with a mobster's ...
...I loved Analyze This but Mickey Blue Eyes runs it pretty darn close. The best part is undoubtedly the little set piece where Grant has to try and come across as a stereotyped mobster and Caan gives him the lowdown on the way to the meet of how to talk Little Italian. Grant is really rather good, although I still find myself loathing him with a quite inexplicable unreasonableness. Caan has most of the good bits in their double plays and Fox is the ...

Romantic comedy with added comedy

Advantages: Very funny, good acting, twisting plot, unexpected ending
Disadvantages: Soundtrack

Normally I don't like romantic comedies in the least little bit. The storylines are predictable and the 'comedy' just doesn't exist. They might have happy endings and be an easy enough film to watch but they are just too boring to be a decent movie. However, I think that this film is really truly amusing. The storyline has various twists in it, and is continually entertaining and intriguing throughout. The jokes made within the film are appropriate ...
...material, it is still enough to make you feel happy and in a light mood throughout the film, and may even cause the occasional chuckle in some places. The story is both really funny and interesting. It is based on the story of one man's love for another woman and how he convinces everyone that he would make a good husband for her, even through her gangster relations. It also involves the problems he creates for himself when he begins to enter the ...

Marrying Into The Mob

Advantages: A one-joke concept that actaully succeeds due to the ridiculousness of the scenario, its comic potential, and the quality of the performances
Disadvantages: Could be just too silly for some, and it's nothing new from Grant

...before - crops up in Mickey Blue Eyes, a mafioso comedy (yes, another one....alright?) Previous attempts by Grant to *do* American movies have produced mixed results. This latest venture wisely allows him to do what he does best, or can possibly only do. He's done it time and again, to the point where any form of criticism (either positive or negative) is rendered meaningless. Hugh Grant is nearly always the same Hugh Grant, regardless of the film ...
...the bumbling romantic stereotype. Mickey Blue Eyes is essentially played as a farce, but thankfully this is no Nine Months. It's premise is simply this : Hugh Grant has to pretend to be a member of the Mob. The whys and wherefores of the situation are trimmings that flesh out what is basically a one-joke concept. Does the prospect strike you as potentially hilarious? Whether it does or not will determine how much you enjoy and can stomach this unsophisticated ...

Mickey Blue Eyes is an American Hollywood film, starring the world famous Hugh Grant. Hugh Grant stars as an extremely good and funny auction dealer, who is madly in love with his girlfriend. So, one night he decides to propose to her in a Chinese restaurant (by means extremely funny), however the answer he gets is not at all what he wanted, in fact far from it. Later, he finds out why: her family is part of the Mafia. They decide to carry on with ...

Do you want to speak mafiosi

Advantages: Funny scenes, some good performances
Disadvantages: Poor opening

...as you may have guessed Mickey Blue Eyes is a film about the mafia, the New York Mafia to be precise. It stars, Hugh Grant as Michael, or “Little Big Kansas Mickey Blue”, James Caan as his potential father in law (Frank) and James Fox as the typical old English twit auction house owner and is a send up of the mafia and a few mafia films. (Do not worry, it has nothing of the Naked Gun send up to it, much to my relief.) Now, I am not a ...
...that floppy manner. In Mickey Blue Eyes, nothing has changed in the type casting, but again the character as in Four Weddings works. This is in no small part to an excellent on screen chemistry with James Caan. The basis of the plot is that Michael is seeking to marry Frank’s daughter, Gina (played by Jeanne Triplehorn), Michael knows nothing of Gina’s family’s Mafia connections and so when he proposes is shocked at her response. ...

How boring, Mr Grant

Advantages: Hugh Grant
Disadvantages: Hugh Grant

I do not really like Hugh Grant because he stars too often in films, which have not really a plot. This film is one out of them; also Grant’s amazing ‘blue eyes’ can’t make it better... but let me tell you the story: The Story ---------- Michael (Hugh Grant) is working for an auction house in New York. He is very happy with his girlfriend Gina (Jeanne Tripplehorn). The next and logical step for him is to ask her if she ...
...runs away. The reason: her Dad Frank (James Caan) is a member of ‘the family’, the mob, and the mafia. Gina doesn’t want her husband to become one of them, too. She knows how that usually works: a little favour here, another there – and you are in: the family will take care for you and your luck but you also have to care for them. So Gina refuses to marry Michael. But Michael can convince her, because she loves him, too. ...

You can buy this on DVD from Amazon.co.uk new for £5.97 or used from £2.20, however all ebayers out there will probably be able to get some good deals as well. I would recommend this film as it is very funny but it is not going to be the best film you will ever see. Thanks for reading. ...

MOVIE MAFIA THAT YOU SHOULDNT WATCH

Advantages: Action packed at certain times
Disadvantages: Boring, dull

...(Or other wise known as Mickey Blue Eyes which is his mafia name, who is husband-to-be of Gina) Michael's character is a very polite and well manered guy. (The usual Hugh Grant character!) Jeanne Triplehorn plays Gina, Michaels bride-to-be. Gina seems very well brought up and also well manered, but really her mother died when Gina was young and her father's been in prison, so really her backround isn't that great. James Caan plays Frank, the father-to-be-inlaw ...

There is also James Fox who plays the auction house owner (Michael's employer) He is a complete and utter prat at times yet very sensible about his job. He can be quite annoying at times. Many people dislike the star of this film, Hugh Grant for many different reasons and from seeing this film I wouldn't bother watching any of his other films ...

Not as good as Notting Hill

Advantages: see text
Disadvantages: see text

Hugh Grant had a hard act to follow after 'Notting Hill' and this film didn't do the trick. Grant's comedic talent and dry wit were not enough to help this inane script. Like this year's other Mafia spoof, 'Analyse This', this comedy about a proper English auctioneer marrying into the mob isn't sure whether it is trying to be serious or slapstick. Unfortunately it fails at both. This movie had a great idea: an uptight British auctioneer (Hugh Grant) ...
...Caan). While it starts out well, it quickly stops being entertaining as it bombards the audience with unfunny, desperate jokes. Midway through the film, I stopped caring and just wanted it over. Grant provides the film's only redemption, scattering laughs sparsely through the film through sheer talent. Jeanne Tripplehorn looks terrific in a red slip and did a credible job of making this resemble a romantic comedy. James Caan's dramatic talent was ...
