Advantages: Metallica and a symphony... How cool is that?! Disadvantages: none at all
...on this and maybe say Metallica went away from their roots and turned to sell-outs, but this is very stunning on what the maestro (Michael Kamen) and Metallica have put together! The sound is great, nothing less than expected from Metallica, even with 100+ back-up musicians to boot! With over twenty songs on the two discs it is well worth the price to sit down, watch, and listen to one of the world's greatest thrash metallers go to town with an orchestra! ... ...Two great songs done with Metallica and the Orchestra. Below is the set list and my opinions and ratings out of five possible points for each song.
Disc One:
01. The Ecstasy Of Gold - the introduction of the concert. It's short, but sets everyone in the mood for the upcoming song very nicely. This is just the symphony playing 4/5.
02. The Call Of Ktulu - the first song Metallica plays, and what better way than to start off with an instrumental? ...

Advantages: A great piece of Metallica history, great setlist Disadvantages: None
...be different from anything else Metallica have ever offered on DVD before becomes immediately apparent - as the 'Ecstasy of Gold' (the theme tune from 'The Good, The Bad and The Ugly' that has accompanied a great many Metallica concerts since the 1980s) is played live by the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra.
Call of the Ktulu follows, and one can only imagine just how tremendous the performance would have been to experience live, judging from the ... ...work very well.
Clearly, Metallica have a great many songs to choose from, and so the setlist does not disappoint. Although there is nothing from Kill 'Em All, highlights from Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets, And Justice for All, Metallica, Load and Reload all appear, and the orchestra generally adds to the experience nicely. Nothing Else Matters, Bleeding Me and Memory Remains are particularly worthy of a mention, as these really come alive ...

...coplexed, imaginative audio revalation.
Metallica team up for a gig with The san fransisco symphony orchestra to bring there fans a 2 cd complied with 20 songs witch include such tracks as Devils Dance, Outlaw torn and Master of Puppets.
The album/Dvd opens with The Call Of Ktulu and what a fit this is for an orchestra who take thw song to new hights and keep every song they perform up there
then there is the fact that there are TWO new songs ... ...Both of witch see metallica showing the world yet again that althogh everyone seems to be thinking that the band are selling out due to a long wait for a new studio album and no news on one, they step up to the mark and deliver a pice of things yet to come, more suprises more mayhem and more from the quartet of definative metal.
This is an AMAZING listen/watch to anyone, none metalheads and metalheads alike
dont delay ANY further, Get this album ...

Advantages: Sees another side of Metallica and hear their music in a different light Disadvantages: Could be seen as selling out as they play their more commercial songs
...shows a great side to metallica and adds another dimension to their most amazing songs. and some songs that i didn't like on reload such as bleeding me sound so good with the symphony.
i would recommend this to and Metallica and non Metallica fan!
there are some songs that they could have added, such as some of the older classics like seek and destroy and Four Horsemen, but this might have taken away from the over all feel of the Symphony and Metallica, ...

Advantages: S&M is a completely new concept , no other band has ever done anything like it, great sound Disadvantages: It has a lack of songs from the first album Kill em all and is missing some classics which would have been interesting to hear such as fade to black and orion
...memory remains. Whatever aspect of metallica you enjoy there is something for everyone on this album, tunes like "the thing that should not be" and "for whom the bell tolls" for the old school fans, "enter sandman" and "fuel" for the more commercial fans or epic ballads like "outlaw torn" and "bleeding me" for the fans of metallicas slower side.
The album also includes two amazing previously unreleased songs - "no leaf clover" and "minus human".
... ...is lacking a song from the first album kill em all. It is also rather expensive for an album even though it is a double disc. It would also have been interesting to hear Fade to Black and Orion.
I would reccomend this album to any metal fan looking for something new and different. ...
