Zen and the art of saving the world.

Advantages: a slick , action packed and deep movie
Disadvantages: none

The Matrix is one of those rare films that manage to combine state of the art special effects with a plot line and hero that have hidden depth to them. With the possible exception of Bladerunner, no film has managed to deliver such awesome visuals, high-octane action and thought-provoking themes all in one package. Science Fiction is not normally known for its cerebral nature, Kubrick's 2001 stands out, but generally the genre is happy to revel in ...
...coupled with well worn plots inhabited by predictable and two dimensional characters. As the millennium came to an end, the Matrix arrived like a breath of fresh air to re-established the credibility of science fiction in one fell swoop. The film opens with Neo, a disillusioned computer hacker looking for answers. He feels the world is not what it seems and is spending every waking hour searching for a semi-mythical figure, Morpheus, who he believes ...

...at first seem... I'll be honest, The Matrix was heralded as being so wonderful by so many people that I couldn't fail to be suspicious. Films have been lauded in the past and they've turned out to be mind numbingly bad. The hype machine goes into overdrive and for the next 3 years everyone suffers from quality blindness, singing it's praises when in actuality it's a total load of garbage. Forgive my skepticism but I'm a cynic when it comes to these ...

...be this way. In The Matrix, it is exactly the same thing. The simulation may be completely computer-generated, but the parallel can still be clearly drawn. The humans of The Matrix believe in something that is completely and utterly fictitious and only one or two individuals can see this for the truth. Are the rebels of The Matrix the heathens of the modern world? The Matrix is also very clever because despite the predicament of the human race, ...
...modern agricultural methods. In The Matrix, dead human beings are simply recycled and intravenously fed back to the other humans. It sounds disgusting – but then similar activities take place in modern-day agriculture. It seems that the audience will only really understand the horror of something when it involves human beings. That rare human quality of hypocrisy is clearly prevalent in this film. To unsettle you further, the filmmakers employ ...

...special effects’. However, in The Matrix, the special effects are so good, you can’t actually see any signs of special effects and if you didn’t know they were special effects (well, if you were thick) then you wouldn’t know they were. There is also a good soundtrack to the film which my sister bought, but after looking through her bedroom and finding loads of interesting stuff, I didn’t find this CD, so I’ll just ...

The character he has to play could have done with an extra boost in acting talent but Keanu manages to pull off the role very well and produces a fine acting performance of a deep and thoughtful character. Keanu is great in the action sequences and it has to be said that this is ...

Better late than never

Advantages: Excellent plot, great performances, fantastic special effects.
Disadvantages: none

I'm probably a bit late in writing this review, but I felt compelled to do it nonetheless. It is hard to express exactly how good I thought the Matrix was, but what I will say is it immediately became my favourite film after first seeing it in summer last year. The ingenious plot behind the Matrix is the most original one yet, and as far as I'm concerned is flawless. In all honesty, it did take me a while to get my head around exactly what was going ...
...in thought for days. It is a plot that could only have been developed after many hours of thought. The film focuses on 'Neo' (Reeves), a computer hacker who has been searching for answers as to what 'the matrix' is. Then, one day, he meets the mysterious Morpheus, and all becomes clear. I would love to tell you more, but, as Morpheus says, "unfortunately you cannot be told what the Matrix is, you have to see it for yourself". The clever thing about ...

Are you really reading this Opinion

Advantages: Very good visual effects
Disadvantages: Plot to complex

Over the last 15 to 20 years, perhaps starting with Star Wars, more and more movies have been using special effects to enhance the visual aspects of movies. With the increasing power of the computer the special effects have been revitalized and the possibilities that moviemakers now have ensure that the 'Big Screen' movies continue to amaze and astound us with their realistic visuals. Perhaps one of the movies that demonstrates this the best with ...

The idea of the movie is intriguing and could it possibly be true? Humankind has been enslaved by octopus type aliens (possible man made - not sure, I'll explain later.) and forced to live in a virtual world. This world is identical to the one we live in now and no one living in this world ...

No Trix, just a great film

Advantages: Great fights, Great characters, Great Scotts - a fantastic film!!
Disadvantages: Bit of a headache job with the 'Are we really here' questions

Not everyones cup of tea, but definately mine. For some unknown reason I used to be wary of anything with Keanue Reeves in it (maybe something to do with that Dean Koontz book, I really hope someone out there knows what I'm talking about!!!) but I always found him a bit too wooden. Also, the thought of normal every day actors doing martial art is normally enough to send a chill up my spine and me to bed with a good book instead. I went to watch ...

What can i say about the Matrix it has to be one of the films of the decade its deceptive because its by the unknown Wachowski brothers. Its story is a little complicated at first until you realise the bigger picture and it starts to really make you define your own life as you know it. Its not only the moves but its also being able to have the power behind it and you cant ...

Do you know just what the matrix is....

Advantages: A must see, great action scenes everything about it is great.
Disadvantages: you have to watch this twice to really get it.

This movies has it all, ground breaking visual affects, great fight scenes, jarring sound, decent acting and a great story. The Matrix is an excellent movie that combines science fiction, shoot-em-up action, and philosophical questions about the nature of Reality. If you are plugged in to a computer, and that computer presents you with a reality that is completely indistinguishable from your own, is it any less real? The directing Wachowski brothers ...

The movie explodes into action in the first scene and continues forward, never letting up until the end. In a world of the future, things are literally not what they seem, where it's Man versus Machine, Reality versus Fantasy, and few who know the truth; among those who do, is Morpheus (Laurence Fishburne), who has long awaited the arrival of ...

...with the kicker in The Matrix, it certainly did. Nothing will compare to the eye-opening truth behind the Matrix. The moment when Neo views the towers of human-pods as far as he could see. Then the explanation from Morpheous, about the history and showing us the harvesting fields. The acting side of things is pretty decent too. Sometimes I thought Laurence Fishbourne overacted the part of Morpheous too much, but I realised that it was just the way ...
...and with Hugo Weaving as the sinister Agent Smith we had a great supporting cast. The key was how Keanu Reeves would fare up. To be fair, he does a pretty good job. His dozy, go with the flow attitude helps to create the initial impression of Mr Anderson/Neo, the computer geek with no life quite well. The only trouble comes when doing the Dojo fighting with Morpheous and the severely poor overacting of some of the moves and the looks on his face! ...

It has been described as the definitive action movie, it has the best ever special effects and it is just so cool. People had ranted and raved about this film for some time before I decided to get it out of the video shop. This is what I thought... She takes out a few of the cops in a room she looks ...

Why is she being chased by people called agents? Why is she in rubber? " The first two questions get answered but the last one still baffles me. The film concerns a computer generated world in which humans think they are living. In the real world however there has been a war between some aliens ...
