Mad Max is the archetypal road movie. Based around a vision of a dystopic future, Mad Max of the title is Max Rockatansky (Mel Gibson) who is an atypical family man making his living by keeping law and order as a cop.
The movie in its simplest form is a story of revenge. When a gang of bike crazies severely injure Max's partner, Jim Goose (Steve Bisley), Max decides to ... ...production it seems that The Mad Max saga is destined to continue despite it's apparent fizzling out in "Mad Max 3: Beyond Thunderdome". In this case, both direction and cinematography (David Eggby) are aided by the Antipodean settings although Mad Max would hardly qualify as a sweeping epic.
Bearing in mind the mediocre script, Mel Gibson (aged only 23 and raw as a baby's bottom in acting terms) carries the strong silent-type of hero well enough ...

Advantages: action/ thrills/ entertainment and down right daftness Disadvantages: sometimes a little tacky
...the cool headed Gibson as Mad Max… pure insane brilliance at it's best.
All though it will not be to every ones taste, with the sometimes tacky stunts and rather over the top special effects, especially in some of the death scenes, it is still a good movie to watch at least once for the shear action and entertainment.
* Would I recommend this…?
Yes I would… even if you're not a Gibson fan.
It is everything that a good movie should be…action packed, ... ...without doubt 95 minutes of what is seen as hell on Earth, (and I don't just mean the film… although I feel certain people will say the movie is just that.. hell…?)
If you want to get a copy of this movie then you can get one from www.amzon.co.uk for less than a fiver.
Feel free, enjoy Mel Gibson in his younger days… if nothing else it's a laugh and paying a fiver for a laugh is cheap in these 'credit crunch' days… ...

Mad Max is known as the film that made Mel Gibson as an actor, but its a damn good film as well.
The theme is your normal near future societal breakdown, but this film does his in a highly convincing and believeable way, without falling into the trap of introducing too many technogadgets, and funky new words. they stick to bad 80s hair and unrestrained violence, in a world on the edge of anarchy.
There is something about Max that means you either ... ...i mean if you watch Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome, Tina Turner and a bunch of Kids! Bloody Hollywood....ok im done ranting now, ill get back to mad max :)
Where was i? oh, yeah no happy ending.. thats what really makes this film for me, because youre waiting for poor old max to kill the bad guys, save his wife and child, and drive off into the sunset.....oh, dear... so when his wife and child are run down, his legs broken, and all his friends dead, ...

This is a great film made on a low budget with a group of then unknown actors altho' the male lead has gone since to make it biggish ( ha ha) in hollywood. set in a post apocolyptic world where the rules are basically take what you can and run if you can't win. The star of the film is a regenade cop/ bounty hunter who is close to the edge of sanity especially when his mate get hit by some loon motorcycle gang. then there is a trail of mayhem destruction ...

Mad Max is an excellent film, despite the fact that it kickstarted Mel Gibson's career. It features a violent post-apocalyptic desert world in which we follow a loner's attempts to survive in a cruel world populated by tribes, some of whom are peaceful and others decidedly are not, and the people he meets, fights and bonds with. Furthermore, Max is described as 'Mad' because he is driven by a desperate need to avenge his family's murder, which is ... ...his inability to protect them. Mad Max set the standard for post-apocalyptic films by which all that follow must be measured; with simple, relatively low-budget costumes and scenery filmed in a dusty desert that very effectively evokes an atmosphere of doom, desperation and impending demise of humanity - and amid it all there is yet, somehow, hope. Perhaps the only question left is how the director of this could go on, twenty years later, to make ...

Opals, fosters and Mad Max. Not a lot of good stuff comes out of Australia so savour this :) (apologies to any austalians). This original and creative low budget movie was something of a landmark of the genre. Advantages: GRIPPING FAST EXCITING COMPELLING ACTION Disadvantages: OTHER TWO SEQUELS
The First Mad Max (1979) is the best, the sequels are Mad Max 2 (the road warrior) and Mad Max Beyond the Thunderdome which did not in my opinon live up to the intoxicating First Mad Max
THE FILM

Mel Gibson plays.Mad Max Rocktansky a tough Police cop who want's out,to be free from the hellraising ... ...say he is working on Mad Max 4 out later this year. I think this film will not be everyones cup of tea but it's certainly original (not a glossy hollywood film) and marked the start of Mel Gibsons great acting career who has now become a sucessful film director(passion of the christ).
QUICK SUMMARY
A superb enthralling,hi octane, violent film which will engross you all the way to the end. I fully recommend you add this to your DVD collection (always ...

It is essentially a low budget, futuristic thriller which benefited from the presence of one Mel Gibson, a then struggling Australian actor who was propelled to stardom with this vehicle. ...family. Max becomes mad, hence Mad Max, and seeks revenge on the murderers.
Mad Max is a fast-paced movie that does not have a superb plot, but is enriched by the superb action and cinema-togrophy. Mel Gibson, an unknown Australian actor at the time, moves his career into high-gear with a gutsy performance as the revenge seeking Mad Max.
The movie is a little frightening at times, as it is possible to see the future could be very similar to this ... ...'car' and 'bike' fighting as Mad Max gains revenge on his enemies.
The movie is fairly predictable and really doesn't have much of a plot. Overall, Mad MAx was an interesting diversion that leads onto better movies. The format and basic scenario are good, it just needed the 'Hollywood' polish to make it into a great movie. My opinion, buy some of the later versions. ...

Advantages: Exciting and stylish Disadvantages: Exploitative, I think
I find "Mad Max" to be an odder film than other people. Basically a revenge film, the murder that Max is avenging doesn't actually happen till near the end of the film, giving a rather perfunctory impetus to the plot (and meaning that he spends most of the film sane).
No one can deny however how stylish the film is. Set in an Australia where the police are struggling to keep a grip on a society that is in the process of disintegrating, Max finds ... ...I won't deny that I found parts of the film exciting, but I have to confess that I also found myself exploited in a way that I don't usually feel with this kind of film. As I already knew that Max was supposed to be avenging his wife I spent most of the film waiting for her to die, so that he can go off to kill the bad guys - and presumably the story was set in this anarchic future so that he actually can kill them, rather than arrest them and put ...
