Advantages: interesting background, romantic Disadvantages: Really slow movie, loose the interest very quickly
...entirely on location in Japan, lost in translation is a laugh-out-loud portrayal of loneliness and human connection. Featuring superior performances from bill Murray and Scarlett Johansson as bob and charlotte, two Americans in Tokyo. Bob is a movie star in town to shoot a whiskey commercial, while charlotte is a young wife tagging along with her workaholic photographer husband. Though this respective insomnias, the two cross paths one night in the ...

Advantages: Bill Murray is his usual witty self Disadvantages: When will the story begin?!?!
I'd heard a lot about this film prior to watching it, and as it had won numerous awards including 3 Baftas and 1 Oscar I thought it was a "must-rent " movie but how wrong I was!! Unfortunately, as is often the case with hyped up films, they never meet your expectations.
Anyhow, the film is set in Tokoyo and follows the relationship that develops between Bob (Bill Murray) and Charlotte (Scarlett Johansson). Bob is an actor filming ads for a brand ...

Advantages: The setting was great; Characters were good; Director is also good; Disadvantages: Ending
...brewed the idea of being lost in translation. The partner of Scarlett in the movie had a good performance I think but he should have more impersonated the character.
The Scenery: I would say that the japanese scenery was awesome. The more I am amazed and wanting to go to Japan. How did the place make the movie great? Well, come to think of it if it was film somewhere else the effect of being "Lost" (oops not that lost okay) will not be great. The ...

Really! What is this film about??
I was so excited on my way to watch this film due to the great reviews, but as soon as the first 5 minutes arrived - i sunk back down into my seat and knew it was going to be a long long time before i got out of the cinema!
The story, what was that - 2 people living in tokyo, spending their life hanging about, 1an advertisement and the other a wife - and they just happen to be in the same hotel, and in the same ...

Advantages: I was able to walk out Disadvantages: just rubbish
May I point out, that if a film hasn't gripped you all the way through, and has made you feel like walking out, then it's not a good film. So I can write a review on it, because I have experienced it. It's no good having the supposed great ending without being good from the start!....

Perhaps I'm not qualified to comment on this movie. You see, I only watched about 1 hour (I'm not even sure if it was ...

Advantages: Both the main characters are fantastic at telling this touching story Disadvantages: flat storyline, poor ending
Well..... Lost in Translation is a "different" movie. Bill Murray and Scarlett Johansson are fantastic at the roles they play in this seemingly pointless film. Despite criticism for having no storyline whatsoever, the film is touching and gives a great insight into what it would be like to live in Japan without the language.
I liked the storyline, however everyone I know that has seen this film say they turned it off, as the story seemed to be ...

Advantages: Clever and captivating to watch Disadvantages: Can't watch too many times before it loses it's magic
This film was an experience for me. There is no doubt in mind that Americans do comedy well. But this is an American comedy like no other.
Sofia Coppola has made a masterpiece that is subtle and cynical in it's humour and outlook on life today. despite being set in Japan, it manages to still mock it's Western roots as it follows two Americans in their experiences in a culture very different to what they are used to, and despite their best efforts ...

Advantages: Beautiful camera work Disadvantages: Bill Murray, lack of believable storyline, tries too hard
I'm not going to recount the storyline for you: two reasons. One, there isn't much of one, and two, everyone else's review does that already.
Let's just concentrate on the central premise. Bill Murray (at least mid-50's? And looking it) and the female lead (who looks early 20's at most) falling in love. Sorry, but I really can't suspend my disbelief for the length of time it takes to sit through this film.
Nothing happens. At all.
I was told ...

...a "soul-searching mission."
The Review - Lost In Translation written and directed by Sofia Coppola is a film that will last long in the memory. Never has a film made the neon lights and busy streets of Tokyo look more beautiful than in Lost In Translation. Every scene of this film is filmed to perfection. And that’s only the visuals. The casting for the film is perfect, with Bill Murray as the aging, washed up actor and Scarlett Johansson as the ...

Advantages: Brilliant performances, cinematography and superb story Disadvantages: None...
I was blown away by Lost In Translation so much that after I watched it, I watched it again! I also watched it every night for the rest of the week. I've seen it 10+ times and it never gets boring.
It's just basically about two lonely americans who feel isolated from their own partners and spend time in Toyko. Charlotte(Scarlett Johansson) feels so alone eventhough there are so many people outside and Bob Harris(Bill Murray) is having a mid-life ...

The movie was not only sluggish but had no plot, theme or even story. The ending was 'sweet', but the journey was definately not worth it.

Advantages: It passed the time Disadvantages: It didnt really have a story
Lost in translation...well I was lost the full way through the film. I thought there was no real story and could have ended up a whole lot better. Now I wont ruin the end for ya folks but it could have been more spectacular, you could have at least left your wife and kids for her Bill, a farewell kiss doesn't quite cut it. I kinda felt like it stole a few hours of my life. Now why was nominated for so many different awards...unless lost in translation ...

Advantages: Very strong characters Disadvantages: Some would say it's slow
I'm not usually a fan of "arty" films, but this one is the exception to the rule. Where arty films often simply mean unitelligible script, obscure plot lines and pretentious acting, in this case the film is arty in the best possible sense.
Some would say it is slow-moving, but really Sophia Coppola just takes her time. Now I'm no cinema expert, but it's no coincidence that this leads to two of the strongest, most identifiable characters in any ...
