Directed by Mark Herman And released in 1998.The Genre is Comedy/Drama/Romance ~Taken from the play by Jim Cartwright 'The rise and fall of Little Voice'. Which was written as a vehicle for Jane Horrocks to showcase her amazing ability to impersonate great ... ...Little voice (Jane Horrocks) is the name of the main character, well it's actually Laura, but that fact is only mentioned once by Little Voice herself in a fit of anger to her Mother in the later stages of the film . She appears to be around age twenty though this is never confirmed. Little voice is a painfully shy and quiet girl, rarely leaving the confines of her bedroom, and never leaving the safety of her house. When she does talk, which is rarely, ...

I'm not really too keen on either Michael Caine or Brenda Blethyn, but as Ewan McGregor and Jane Horrocks were also starring in the film I bought the video anyway. What a pleasant surprise, Blethyn was quite remarkable, totally dominates the film. The plot, if we can call it that, is a variation on the underdog emerging as victorious. Mari Hoff (Blethyn) is a widow with a mouth bigger than the entrance of Eurotunnel. She has a chronically shy and ... ...Silver Screen Greats, Judy Garland, Marilyn Monroe and the like. Mari's current love interest, Ray Say (Caine), an underachieving talent scout who sees a meal ticket in the vocals of LV. Cue Billy (Ewan McGregor) to provide the younger Hoff's romantic interlude... Not much of a story you'll agree but with Blethyn and Horrocks delivering a first-class performance, who cares? As I say, I'm not a fan of Blethyn but I have to give her top marks for her ...

...just quiet, hence the nickname Little Voice from her Mother.
Jane Horrocks played the part of the quiet, shy girl who just loves to sing. Jane Horrocks performed all of the songs herself, and the likeness between her and Bassey, Monroe and Garland is uncanny.
The cast of Little Voice is pretty extraordinary. Four of the actors have been nominated for an Oscar, and two have won one. Not only that, but the other are well known in British Films, anyway.
... ...star. But, will the shy little girl want to become a star?
**Performances**
With such a great cast, my expectations for the film were high, and it was good they were, because the acting was fantastic, and better than I thought! It was funny, touching and moving, and the actors created all this. I would Brenda Blethyn and Jane Horrocks are the best. They are playing completely different roles to what they usually do. Horrocks is usually the loud ...

...portrays very well, a shy little mouse that seemed to stop growing after her father died. I think Horrocks is a very versatile and flexible actress, and she proves it in this film. I never knew she could sing at all until I saw Little Voice, and I definitely think she should do more singing alongside her career. However, she has done loads of voices for films too. Other Films:
Chicken Run (2000) – the voice of Babs.
Robbie The Reindeer – Donner.
... ...films! I love him in Little Voice, I think Ray Say was meant for Caine, and no one else.
Other Films:
Austin Powers: Goldmember (2002) – Nigel Powers.
Miss Congeniality (2000) – Victor Melling.
The Muppet Christmas Carol (1992) – Scrooge.
Ewan McGregor:
We’re used to seeing McGregor in main roles as the daring fighter (Star Wars) or the dashing and sexy seducer (Down With Love) so it’s nice to know his roles haven’t always been like those characters. ...

...(can anyone remember her?) sat Little Voice. Oh come on lady, it'll be pants. "Why?" she bellowed in her demonic thoust-doth-question-me-mortal voice. Because it's ALWAYS on offer and they obviously can't shift them. "Well tough - We're watching it"...and we did

The feeling of sweet young love between Billy and Little Voice may not form the core of the film but it's the catalyst that sets the whole thing in motion and adds a new element to the film. No longer is Little Voice just a working class comedy, but it becomes the comedy-drama that it needs to be. The clash of foolish young dreams and sleazy middle aged has beens (and ...

Advantages: Good laugh for all the family Disadvantages: None
Before watching this film I had heard only negative reviews! Fortunately I watched it despite them, otherwise I would have lost out on such a good laugh. Please if you see this film in your hire shop then get it and I guarantee that you will leave it with a smile on your face, and that you will be singing songs from the film all night. The film has no swearing, no violence and no drugs, it's great for all the family and a jolly good laugh.
We have ... ...her Mum, but I bet half of you never knew that Ms Horricks has an outstanding singing voice. The film is about a shy young lady with a gift, set in a small town with a good plot, it's bound to please. It has a very good cast including Jane Horricks, Ewan McGregor, Branda Blethyn and Michael Caine. This film is a great choice and it shows again that British films are among the best in the world. ...

...an extra!
It's a good little movie with heart, about a repressed and ultra shy girl (Jane Horrocks) who just happens to have an extraordinary talent hidden away for impersonating great singers. Michael Caine back on form as the seedy agent who takes her on and Brenda Blethyn is very funny and touching as her unloving mother. But it's Horrocks who steals the film, incidentally it's based on a play specifically written for her because she can in reality ...

Advantages: Horrocks, Caine, Broadbent Disadvantages: Too much hype
...it's one of those quirky little gems that Britain does so well - a dirty little film set in the grime and dirt of England - low budget (comparatively) with a mega story and brilliant performances by its leads that make it an absolute smash - and this is one of the best films of its kind.
In this case Jane Horrocks and Michael Caine are the major players, although Whatsername gives brilliant support as the drunken and tarty mother of Horrocks. Jim ... ...The film is centred on Little Voice, played by Horrocks, an introverted disturbed girl who is fascinated by the big females singers of the 30s, 40s and 50s and spends all her time in her room listening to her dead father's records and building up an uncanny ability to create the most faithful impressions of those stars you could wish.
Caine is the impressario who is going out with the mother but sees a fortune in his hands when he finds exactly ...

Advantages: Top performances from big names Disadvantages:
Some absolutely top performers in a film which really should have been bigger. Jane Horrocks (she of Ab Fab and Tesco ads fame) stars as LV a girl who's become withdrawn because of her overbearing mother (Brenda Blethyn). Her only outlet is her father's records which she loves so much, so much that she can sing just like most of their stars. Her mother's agent boyfriend discovers her talent and they decide to put her on the stage but LV doesn't want ...
