Olive is a little girl with a dream: winning the Little Miss Sunshine contest. Her family wants her dream to come true, but they are so burdened with their own quirks, neuroses, and problems that they can barely make it through a day without some disaster befalling them. Olive's uncle Frank, a renowned Proust scholar, has ... ...of getting Olive to the Little Miss Sunshine contest in far off California. There means of transport is a tricky one as it is a camper van that has to be push started into gear three before taking off.

Advantages: Funny, Sad, Beautiful! Disadvantages: There aren't any
This film is about a family who are determined to get their young daughter Olive into the finals of a beauty pageant and take a cross-country trip in their VW bus.
This may not sound like much of a plot, but this is in fact the recipe to one of the funniest films I have seen in years. The humour, albeit it dark in places, is throughout the film and makes for a thoroughly enjoyable 100 minutes.
It is brilliantly acted by all, but particularly by ... ...and Toni Colette will not be disappointed. I have seen literally thousands of films in my lifetime and this is by far in my top ten! This is the only film I watched where I was still laughing 10 minutes after I had left the cinema! ...

Advantages: Amazing family relations film Disadvantages: none - the film doesnt falter

I thought it would just be another typical road trip movie as the family tried to get from Albequerque to California in time to take the families youngest to a beauty pageant. You know somewhere across between national lampoons vacation and spelling bee! Was I wrong. This film was on so many levels and although the predictable happened i.e. the family all bonded ... ...way beyond that. They have to be the most disfunctional family ever portrayed in a film. And the film was so emotional and deep, even dark. The beauty pageant at the end is well worth the wait and makes this for me one of the most bizare films I have seen in a long while. You have to watch this movie! ...

...the characters are realistic or perhaps over-exaggerated is pehaps inconsequential, they are certainly real enough to evoke a sympathetic response. Sometimes cringe-worthy; sometimes tear-jerking; always entertaining, Little Miss Sunshine is a film that will captivate and give a real insight into human emotion. A rare gem. ...

...- it was funny, a little weird and strange, and totally engaging! All the characters were brilliant, and it's a movie that will really lift your spirits. I also liked the fact that it didn't have many special effects and relied on the characters and the story, which meant that the story was brilliant. Me and my family were really engaged with this film the whole way through - and I didn't want it to end. Also, the ending was really unpredictable! ...
