...This is a lovely little film which will have you smiling for about a week after. For me it is a bit like sex - you have to go through lots of little fun bits and maybe some things that are a bit weird before you reach the pinacle at the end!!
Alan Arkin is brilliant as the grandfather and Abigail Breslin really does deserve the Oscar she is nominated for. This film is made up of a brilliant cast and is well worth a look.

Advantages: It includes a great cast, fantastic storyline and has amazing comedy points. Disadvantages: It does take a while to get into the story.
"I enjoyed watching this delightful film with my family." It gave us alot of laughs and I could watch it over and over again. It has a great storyline although some of it confusing and complicated, but when I re-watched it, I fully understood the film and the whole plot. In my opinion, it's a _great_ film to watch with the family and with your friends. With its great quality and an amazing choice of lines and a fantastic cast including funny parts ... ...were a fan great dance moves, quality lines and amazing cast, I'm sure you'll definatly love this film. Little Miss Sunshine centres around a dysfunctional family: Stressed Mum Sheryl struggles to cope with the demands of her family including husband Richard a failing motivational speaker, her drug-addled father-in-law, brother Frank who is just out of hospital following a suicide attempt, son Dwayne who refuses to speak, and daughter Olive, an aspiring beauty queen with the odds stacked against her.
Although the main ... ...together, and we learn a little about all the characters, and their tensions and connections to one another.
Once the roadtrip begins new sides to each character are shown, making us laugh, and at times want to scream with frustration. However, even Richard, who at first seems intolerable does have some very redeeming moments. Slighty dissapointing start but well worth sticking with for the end result! Low budget comedy about a young girl who has dreams of becoming a beauty queen. Under her drug addled grandfathers guidance, she works at perfecting her routine should she ever get the opportunity to use it. The family are the example of the word disfunctional and the journey to the beauty pagent sifts through each of their problems. Plenty of laughs, forgiving the slow start to the film and a tear inducing last laugh. Watched the last 15 minutes over and over again!!!!! ...

Little Miss Sunshine is a story about the Hoover family. Sheryl is the mother of the family and takes in her gay, suicidal brother, Frank.
Sheryl is married to Richard the who is trying to sell a success idea he has. The pair have a daughter toegther called Olive.
There is also Dwayne a young boy whos father has parted from Sheryl. Dwayne has vowed not to speak until he reaches his aim of becoming a jet pilot. His image may come ... ...childrens grand father and is addicted to herion.
Olive has a dream of becoming a pageant queen and when the chance comes up the family decide to take it.
The whole family travel to California in their old volkswagen kombi to reach Olive's dream. Along the way they have their mishaps and many laughs.
This movie is a great watch and is hilarious!!!!
I'd definatly buy it on dvd and it isnt even that expensive if you look in the right places.

If you have not seen Little MIss Sunshine and you are a fan of quirky, independant comedy/ dramas; please buy Little Miss Sunshine now! It is a beautifully acted, wonderfully scripted, hilarious road movie - the winner of several well deserved awards and nominations. Abigail Breslin plays the daughter of an average, disfunctional, american family - complete with stressed out working mother, failing entrepreneur father, a brother who refuses to speak, ... ...in the final of the Little miss Sunshine pageant by default, the whole family set off , barely speaking; in a beaten up, yellow, VW campervan.
The result is an extremely funny, extremely touching little film that made me laugh, then cry, then laugh all over. It is fun to watch again with other people just to see their reaction to the films fantastic ending. ...

Little Miss Sunshine was one of the sleeper hits of last year. It gained critical acclaim at the Sundance Festival before being picked up by a distributor and doing well at the box office (for an independant picture, anyway). This is definately the funniest film I saw last year.
The film centres around a family road trip. Sheryl (Toni Collette) and Richard (Greg Kinnear) drive their 7 year old daughter, Olive (Abigail Breslin) across America in ... ...Little Miss Sunshine beauty pageant. Along for the ride are suicidal Uncle Frank (Steve Carrell), Olive's brother who refuses to speak, Dwayne (Paul Dano) and Grandpa (Alan Arkin).
If you look at the bare bones of the film the family are on a metaphorical journey where they realise their love for one another etc. all the usual emotional stuff you would expect. The film could therefore, very easily have descended into a schmaltz-fest. What stops ...

Starting with Olive, Little Miss Sunshine who\'s obsession with beauty pageants gets the whole family on a trip in volkswagon camper van (which breaks down, only adding to the humour).
Grandpa, uncle, brother and mom and dad all hit the road with olive so she can get to her little miss sunshine pageant, having practised her routine with her grandad (who doesnt quite make it all the way)
