- Introduction -
This film is pretty well known, even though its not exactly a totally mainstream movie (though it does feature some fairly well known names), it got alot of attention on TV and the DVD was advertised quite alot. It sounded like something I might enjoy and I'd wanted to see it for a while but after reading reviews that indicated it was a film that you would only really watch once, I decided to wait until I could find a cheap copy, ...

Advantages: Lovely bizarre road movie, perfectly balancing family dilemma and humour Disadvantages: Can seem slow and, sometimes, a little over the top
...family - an intelligent, curious little girl who is obsessed with beauty pageants and their idealistic aspects.
HUMOUR:
The main element of the film is humour. It runs throughout the film, and I think it's this that helps brighten various grave scenes. The humour, often quite dark, permeates the more serious circumstances. A good example is a scene in which a police officer pulls them over - after finding porn mag's in their trunk, he is oblivious ...

Little Miss Sunshine is a bit of a different film to the type that I enjoy watching but none the less it is one of my favourites. It first came out in the cinemas in 2006, so is a couple of years old now.
Little Miss Sunshine is about an American family. They are not the perfect family that is normally depicted in films though, they are a bit rough round the edges. The dad Richard (Greg Kinnear) is a life coach who is trying his hardest to become ...

...lot of positive things about Little Miss Sunshine, the thing that made me want to see it more than anything else was a review in which it was compared to the movie Welcome To The Dollhouse. Most importantly the movie had no press coverage prior to its arrival at a film festival, and became probably the best known independent movie of 2006 certainly one of the biggest success stories of the year. So what did the movie offer and deliver to receive such ...

Advantages: Great story, great cast Disadvantages: It simply may not be everyone's cup of tea
Little Miss Sunshine was definitely the independent film of 2006. Garnering four Oscar nomination (two of which were wins), six BAFTA nominations (with two wins), a Golden Globe nomination and one of the highest bids for a film in the history of the Sundance Film festival, I must say expected nothing short of greatness from Little Miss Sunshine. Described by the Daily Mail as “The funniest comedy of the year by a mile”, I expected a primarily cheerful ...

Watchable. Review ofLittle Miss Sunshine (DVD)by

Advantages: Different, Good Cast Disadvantages: Not for me, over hype.
Little Miss Sunshine was one of those films that everyone but me seemed to have seen, and so I decided it was on my list of films to see. It sounded quite good as I had heard really good things about it and thought the fact it had been nominated for Oscars really made it appeal much more. So when a friend offered to lend me it after I spotted it in their DVD collection I did of course say yes.
Its a quirky American comedy, with a plot that hasn’t ...

...in my Ass" (Grandpa - Little Miss Sunshine)
Like probably everyone reading this I love a good laugh, however, I don't think I'm easily pleased when it comes to comedies. Too many of them are based on laughing at stupid people pulling stupid faces which gets very boring. The last couple of 'comedies' I went to see at the pictures had me groaning in disappointment, so it wasn't with the highest of hopes that I went to see Little Miss Sunshine. How ...

6. Grandpa Edwin Hoover

...conformist and plastic society, the little girl's final performance at the pageant is so disturbing that I found myself sympathising with the ogre-like pageant organiser, whom the film is asking us to despise. What else does the film tell us? By its conclusion, none of the characters appear to have grown or learnt anything from their experiences. Their circumstances remain unchanged and their dreams remain unfulfilled, which is a kind of depressing ...
