Advantages: Great scenery, now familiar cast, good old-fashioned fariytale. Disadvantages: May need some parental guidence for very young children.
The thing to remember when watching this movie for the first time is that it was meant for kids. Ridley Scot takes the simplest story, and leaving the story itself unchanged, delivers the most dramatic rendering of the original idea that he can manage. It is one of the rare ones that he has done with the intention of being viewed by the eyes of children, and therefore, we get a pretty basic tale full of good vs. evil, fairies and forest folk, demons ... ...when I was in my early teens, and I was absolutely smitten. Back then, I had no idea who Tom Cruise was (and neither did the rest of the world, I imagine) and I didn’t judge the film negatively at all. In fact, I was rapt by the scenery, all glittery snow landscapes, serene forests and secret blue pools overgrown with lush plants, where the Unicorns roamed. All this beauty was set off by the hooked nose goblin and his cronies, serving the big ...

Advantages: Wonderful fantasy tale, good standard of acting Disadvantages: Despite PG certificate, may scare little ones
This fantasy adventure, written by William Hjortsberg and directed by Ridley Scott, stars a young Tom Cruise as a boy named Jack. Set in a mythical forest which is inhabited by more than just ordinary animals, creatures such as fairies and unicorns, Jack is forced to confront the Lord of Darkness (Tim Curry - best known from The Rocky Horror Picture Show), when his beloved princess Lily (Mia Sara) is taken by goblins, and the world is plunged into ... ...small group of forest creatures - gnomes and fairy folk - Jack must rescue Lily and the last remaining unicorn before the Lord of Darkness carries out the sacrifice that will seal the worlds' doom. THE OVERVIEW: This is one of Tom Cruise's earliest films, (film was released in 1985), and is probably one of his best. This film is visually stunning thanks to the directing of Ridley Scott. The mythical forest in which the film is set is outstanding. ...

Advantages: Beautiful scenery, some well integrated moral questions, womderful escapism for those who are jaded by real life or who simply have not forgotten what it was like to be a child. Disadvantages: At first glance it seems that it cannot make a good film, until you allow yourself to experience it first hand.
...looks almost as unbelievable as Legend did before watching. Would we trully risk all to save our less perfect world as Jack had done? Is right and wrong present here as it was in Legend, or is modern life a series of different greys? And can there really be a love which is pure, people who take responsibility for their actions and finally, a happy ever after? It seems rather unlikely. ...

Advantages: Lavish sets, a true fantasy fairytale, Tim Curry as good as ever. Disadvantages: May scare young children.
This film, staring a young Tom Cruise and Mia Sara, is a fantasy fairytale which begins in an enchanted forest. Tom Cruise plays Jack, a peasant boy who has lived in the forest all his life, and has befriended its mythical inhabitants - fairies and unicorns.
Mia Sara plays Lili, a young princess who is friends with Jack, and often visits him in the forest. Spoilt and head-strong, she often tries to boss Jack about, though the two have fallen in ... ...Of Darkness, (played by Tim Curry), has designs to create an age of darkness. To do so, the remaining two unicorns which dwell in the enchanted forest must be destroyed. If he succeeds, the sun will never rise again, and the world will be locked in a perpetual winter.
When Jack takes Lili to see the unicorns for the first time, Lili makes the mistake of scaring them. Unknown by Jack and Lili, they were followed by goblins serving the Lord Of Darkness. ...

~~~ My thoughts ~~~
An excellent tale of myths and magic, legends and fables. Fairies, Goblins and mythical creatures excellently portrayed in the way that we imagine them to be. A classic childrens tale that is a must see for all those with a fantasy-type mind. This is a childrens film, but if you are an adult and ...
Advantages: Good visually Disadvantages: Dull, casting
Somehow I've avoided this film. I don't know why, I don't know how, but I always seemed to miss it through one accident or another. Should I have tried harder? Should I have stopped playing at the edge of the abandoned mineshaft? The answer is sadly, No
This is a fantasy film pure and simple. Nothing wrong with that but when the fantasy is of the simplest most obvious story possible then we're not looking good. It's simple but here goes anyway: ... ...his love (oo-er) he lets her see...the fabled unicorn (you wondered what I was going to say then didn't you, be honest). She touches one of them (this gets worse) and the forces of eveil use this breaking of the ancient laws to capture and kill one of the pair, bringing darkness to the land. You can guess where this is leading to so I won't continue but suffice to say it doesn't exactly lead you on a twisty turny path with revelation after revelation.
Advantages: Dreamy - one to watch with your girlfriend Disadvantages: Last scene is a bit cheesy
Legend starring Tom Cruise, Mia Sara and, allegedly, Gates Mcfadden of Star Trek TNG fame is a fairy tale of the purest type. Mia stars as a Princess (called Lily if I remember rightly), although we learn nothing more of her Royal life, in love with a simple forest dweller called Jack (Tom Cruise) in an enchanted forest that looks like heaven itself. What Mr Cruise doesn't realise is that in addition to his attentions the delightful Princess is also ... ...underlying darkness runs throughtout the film although you are sometimes only aware of it in retrospect. Jack takes the Princess to see a pair of Unicorns and all is going swimmingly until she decides to touch one...this apparently being very bad news. Now Jack could have shouted at her not to do it or reached out and grabbed her but no, he decided he'd deal with the consequences, which proves to be a bad move! The P of D captures one of the Unicorns ...
Advantages: Tim Curry is always brilliant Disadvantages: Dull and reactionary
I'm a big fan of Tangerine Dream, so I watched "Legend" purely because they did the soundtrack (in one version of the film, at any rate). I'm afraid that not only was the soundtrack one of the least memorable pieces of music they've done, the film itself was quite dull.
"Legend" features unicorns, fairies and the like, all on an uninteresting quest. You would have thought that given the amount of research Ridley Scott put into the film, he could ... ...than this mish-mash of fairly tale elements. It seems that the greatest sin in the world is to wear black clothes and snog someone you're not engaged to, a ludicrous ideology that Ridley Scott should be too intelligent to use this unthinkingly. If I wanted a tract about sex before marriage I'd read the latest paper from The Jesus Army.
I think that film-makers have a duty to update their material to reflect their own philosophies. If Scott actually ...
Advantages: Well done, considering when produced Disadvantages: A little far fetched
Need I say more? Tom Cruise, when young, just starting his acting career, played in this excellent fantasy film.
I have watched, and rewatched, and rewatched this movie umpteen times. It is one of my all time favorites.
Tom Cruise is a young lad who must save a maiden from a fate worse than death. Unicorns, imps, fairies, and a little ingenuity makes for an interesting story.
Save the last unicorn from having its horn cut off (which means certain ... ...the devil, and save the world from the overtaking darkness. What more do you need?
The characters are amusing, believable, if a bit on the, shall we say, strange side. The makeup, costumes (especially the ladie's gown in the dancing scene) and effects are excellent for a time when SFX are just starting to really come to life. ...
