Last Action Hero must surely rate as Arnie’s worst movie ever. Based on an incredibly silly and overcomplicated plot it never seems to make up its mind on whether it is one of his usual violent offerings or a lame attempt at comedy whilst achieving neither end to any great effect. The Plot... A little boy gets to see a special sneak preview of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s (excuse the spelling) latest movie. but gets sucked into the movie and must take ...
...it. so... ...So the rest is predictable. Arnie runs around killing bad guys with the kid in tow and lots of guns get fired and lots of things explode and it looks all very exciting. The problem here is that the movie is meant to be a parody of the usual violent Arnie film but just isn’t funny. Even from the outset the premise for this film is bad - wee kiddie wink gets to have his big screen hero come to life after getting to see the latest movie before anyone else does (when his cinema owning friend lets him in late at night). Compared to other films by Director John McTiernan (Die Hard, Predator) this film is pretty weak. And Arnold Scwarzenegger has done better stuff. Back in a time that I didnt care about computers and the like I watched this film, and loved it. I was 9 or 10 and it was the next best thing, because I could watch Arnold Schwarzenegger without having to sneak Terminator out of my dads collection of 15+ action/horror movies. Plus the whole alternate reality concept was just astounding to me. I remember wondering if i went to the local theatre James Bond would come out of the screen and take me on ...
...back at it isnt the best, but its all about the novelty value, it may well be in the bargain bin at the local ASDA, but its well worth watching if you still have an ounce of child left in you. The special effects on it were good for its day and believeable to a 9 year old boy. This film would have been even more of a flop if it hadnt been for Schwarzenegger. Price wise, well I got my copy for £3 as I said in the ASDA bargain bin. And was well ...

with the exception of kindergarten cop, and that other kids comedy film he did (clearly a great film - cant even remember what it's called! something about fighting to get a certain toy for his kid but there's only one left and another dad is after the same toy, yada, yada, yada....you know the drill), anyway, where was i....ahh yes, as a general rule arnie doesn't do comedy or "disney-esque" films - and rightly so, blatantly he's not the best of ...
...fun, morals etc these type of films are supposed to make you feel (refer to above titles for perfect examples of this!). Hence why he works so well doing action films - his wooden acting ( i may mock, but believe it or not i actually think he's great!) doesn't ever over-shadow the exaggerated plot, fighting scenes, explosions, etc - it actually compliments them, likee van damme (also a favourite of mine!). But this is where my opinion changes completely ...
