A load of old cobblers, but still fun.

Advantages: Special-effects, spectacular locations.
Disadvantages: Weak plot, weak antagonists.

...considering some of the things Lara has faced in the games. I thought to myself: is now the time to be having a reality check? Lara has faced some pretty serious enemies before, and about the best thing she came up against was the monster robot at home. I think that Chris Barrie looked rather lost in the guise of butler…come on, he is too young to be a butler! Fine, he has that dry sense of humour that befits any Cadbury type gentleman, but ...
...Lara’s clothes off rather than asking her to put on a dress… But still, after all that, I did enjoy the movie. Granted, disappointing in some ways, but still filled with wonderful special effects, and filmed in some spectacular locations. I’d like to have a go on those twin bungee ropes when she’s not looking… ...

A treat for all gaming fans.

Advantages: A lot of action, plenty of stunts.
Disadvantages: If your not a fan of the game you may not be interested.

Lara Croft: Tomb Raider sees Angelina Jolie jump into Lara’s combat shorts and vest with explosive results! The 100 million dollar adventure promises action, stunts, backflips and of course, Lara Croft! Since 1996 computer game fans have been mesmerised by Lara and this film follows the game closely with the sets resembling those of the Chronicles series. Jolie not only looks like the animated idol, she delivers just enough attitude topped ...
...screen. Basically Lara is an archaeologist in the Indiana Jones mould, who is sent around the globe, namely London, Tunisia and Africa, to find a series of artefacts and dodge danger at every turn. Tomb Raider also boasts an impressive soundtrack and stunts that are rumoured to have been attempted by our heroine herself. Terrible memories of the other failed attempts to bring computer game characters to the big screen, such as Wing Commander and ...

Its All About Miss Croft

Advantages: Good action scenes,Special effects,Plot was Good/OK
Disadvantages: Focuses too much on Lara Croft

...a good job of playing Lara Croft. Not only does she look remarkably like her but her acting meant that she was like her in many other ways. There are no characters that really stand out in the film other than Lara Croft. This is a pretty major drawback. There is a butler and a gadget guy who are both amusing but who are really dispersed in little sequences throughout the film. There was a very dodgy character called "Pimms" ("As in the beverage,Miss ...
...film focussed too much on Lara Croft alone which got a little boring towards the end. The soundtrack was pretty good and the special effects were fairly impressive. It is a suitable family film which is rated as a '12' and contains very little swearing-it is the action which does the talking. If you're a big fan then you should and will give it a try I'm sure. If not, its still a pretty good film for all the family. ...

Kick Ass Lara

Advantages: All action entertainment
Disadvantages: Hubby may want you to dress like Lara until he gets over it

...forward to the release of Lara Croft – Tomb Raider ever since I heard it was on the cards for being made into a movie. When I heard that Angelina Jolie was to play Lara I thought she was the perfect choice. Let me firstly explain that I am a forty two year old mother of three, not a spotty faced teen, but there has been many a night in our house when my family have had to go to the fish and chip shop to be fed because Mum has been helping Lara ...

Yes there is a scene in the movie where she is in the middle of the Arctic with her coat swinging open revealing her ample chest heaving against a thin t-shirt but what the heck.. my husband and fifteen year old son where thrilled to bits. What I particularly liked was how they brought into the movie lots of her actions that she does in the game. Angelina Jolie has done her homework on studying virtual ...

And her allegedly tension filled love hate relationship with her male counterpart was introduced and used very flimsily - most unsatisfying. Even the opening scene lacks impact, because it's such a safe bet that they're not going to hurt their heroine before the film's even begun. This looks gorgeous, the special effects monsters are ...

I'll be at the head of the line to buy the next game when it comes out, though I don't think I'd choose to see this again. A fun action movie, and worth seeing once but not quite as good as it could have been. ...

Lara Croft and the Raiders of the Lost Tomb

Advantages: Action packed, great effects, visually impresive.
Disadvantages: some dodgy acting and dialogue

...Jones and The Mummy. Lara Croft (Angelina Jolie) is the Tomb Raider - a beautiful, adventurous, adrenalin gobbling junkie - very clever, very rich and very handy with a pair of pistols. Now I have never played the game so I don't know if that is a good thing or not. I certainly can't compare the two so I can only comment on the film as I saw it (ie, no background knowledge of Lara, her skills, her foes, her friends etc). The story is simple if ...

Great looking but a poor plot

Advantages: Great special effects and well shot
Disadvantages: Poor story.

While this is obviously a big budget film and designed as a summer blockbuster it doe not deliver. Again a film with great potential falls foul of over-hyping and a studio that thinks they can sell the film on the name. The sad thing is they can and will do. Its not that is a bad film, I've seen much worse, its just not a good film - never mind great. Yes, its visually stunning. Great special effects and sets. I was in Cambodia for the filming ...
...memories of a great holiday. This was one reason to see it but it could have been much more. The acting wasn't bad given the cheezy script but the story was far to much like the game. That is, it was as if they had designed the game first and then wrote the film around a game plot. The suspension of disbelief works with a game but not with a film. There were also far to many scenes that were stolen from other films - checkout the "Fugitive" ...

What A disappointment

Advantages: Will keep the children quite for an hour or so
Disadvantages: none to mention

...as Angelina Jolie cast as Lara Croft the English archaeologist. Her accent is as immaculate as her outfits, but despite the $55 million and a popular heroine, the director Simon West couldn't dig up a decent script. The plot centres round a item called the Triangle Of Light, which the bad guy in this film Manfred Powell (Iain Glen) believes gives you super power's over time. He wants to get the long-lost artefact so he can commit atrocities on behalf ...
...from Cambodia all the way to Iceland, on the way she is following the instructions left by her long lost dad. The plot is poor and watching the film is like watching someone else play the video game. Tomb Raider has just enough intrest to appeal to the easily pleased 12 to 14 year-olds out there. This could have been the first videogame adaptation. but in my opinion if there are other's that follow after this one i'll stick with the game. ...

Lara

Advantages: Great effects, brilliant acting.
Disadvantages: Very enpty plot

I have been to see Lara Croft: Tomb Raider twice, and my views of it changed. The first time I thought what a great accent Angelina Jolie put on, and how stunning all the effects were. The second time I started thinking how the plot was a good idea, but not played out very well. The cast are well picked. I must say that the villain was far to smarmy, even for an 'Illuminati' (person of the Light). There is of course the 'comedy' character, who is ...
...robots. The butler is ever trying to turn Lady Croft into a Lady, not the Tom-Boy, adventuress that she is. The effects, as i said were very good, with Lara's training robot, which she uses (after shooting it to pieces) as a boombox. There are also the statues that come alive in the temple where the rare Jasmin grows. Overall, not a waste of money, unless you want a very intense story line. I hope that you enjoy it as i did, but, don't view it ...

A computer game heroine

Advantages: The sexy Angelina Jolie
Disadvantages: Weak story

Fans of the Lara Croft computer game were eagerly anticipating the release of the film adaptation, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider. It is directed by Simon West and was released in 2001. Lara Croft: Tomb Raider is about an archeologist/tomb raider, Lara croft (Angelina Jolie), who belongs to a wealthy British aristocratic family. She spends most of her time travelling the world searching for ancient artefacts, using her expert knowledge and combat skills ...
...a secret society, called the Illuminati in their search for pieces of a mysterious device which when combined, during a rare alignment of planets, will give the owner unlimited power. Croft must find and destroy the device before the evil Illuminati can use it for their own nefarious purposes. This is an enjoyable film with a decent story which is a bit weak in places. It is very similar to the Indiana Jones films in terns of style and plot, but ...

Highly entertaining great after a hard day

Advantages: Real no-brainer, great after a hard day, good action, good humour
Disadvantages: A bit far-fetched, may be too low-brow for some

I'll admit that I probably wouldn't have gone to see this film unless I had been asked along by some friends, but I'm quite glad I did, as it's nowhere near as bad as you might expect for a film based on a game. In fact, I thought it was really quite good. I'd be lying if I said that my very favourite part of the film was Angelina Jolie running around in tight clothing. Also making an appearance is Chris Barrie, playing the Arnold Rimmer-esque butler ...
...quite well. The story line is a little far fetched, as it usually is in this genre of film, with Angelina trying to find some ancient artifact or other with the power to destroy erm... well, everything really. To be honest, it's pretty much Indiana Jones with a pony tail. The plot is remarkably lucid and easy to follow, albeit a bit far-fetched. As you would expect, action scenes make up the bulk of this film, generally beautifully choreographed ...
