...of pirates eager to find Laputa and plunder the city of it's vast riches. The two orphans must outwit their pursuers in order to fulfil their own quests: to uncover Sheeta's own shrouded past and to fulfil Pazu, and his father's, dream of proving the existence of Laputa.
This is a timeless animated film that seriously challenges the brilliance of Disney's animated works. Realeased in 1986 it still manages to look suprisingly fresh, along with a ... ...when I was about 6 years old and it has since then become a childhood favourite, one which I regularly bring off the shelf and watch. Of course nowadays this would be the DVD version rather than VHS. The DVD itself is excellent, the box having attractive colour artwork and clear lettering. It has few special features but needs none, the film itself is already enough to guarantee 2 hours of entertainment and you'll find yourself wanting to watch it ...

Advantages: Great solid storyline, brilliantly animated and just wonderful. Disadvantages: Slightly too long.
This is based on the book 'Castle in the Air' by Diana Wynne Jones. This is one of my favourite animated movies by Miyazaki.
The story is set in fictional english town, where Pasu meets Shita. Shita carries a mysterious jewel with the ability to fly in the air and has strong destructive power. They meet Muska, who wants to harnass the destructive power to his own advantage. A battle between the Muska and Pasu's commrades follows, leading to the ... ...This movie is very well drawn. In 1986, Miyazaki's team animated films mainly by drawing the scenes, with minimum help from CG and computerised graphics. The skill and brilliance of the film is reflected.
Special features of the DVD include Complete Feature Length Storyboards (Altenative Angle), Original Japanese Trailers, Studio Ghibli Trailer Reel. The storyboards are really interesting, and it shows you how they have come up with the film and ...
