Novel Use Of A Pair Of Chopsticks

Advantages: Action , action, and more action.
Disadvantages: A weak storyline and some poor acting.

~ ~ My local video shop (Xtravision) has a special offer on at the moment. Any two new releases (VHS or DVD) at only €8 for two night’s rental. Applies to games as well, but as I’m not much of a games fan these days, that’s not too much benefit to me. Anyhoo. It means that the old movies have been getting a right hammering from the ‘mad cabbie’ of late. Last night I watched a martial arts movie called “Kiss ...
...successor to the martial arts Crown held for so long by the late Bruce Lee, and co-starring Bridget Fonda as Jessica, a forlorn American hooker working the streets of Paris. ~ ~ The only other movie that I can recall seeing Jet Li in was Lethal Weapon 4, with Mel Gibson and Danny Glover, where he plays a Chinese bad guy called Wah Sing Ku who is importing heroin into the USA. (Of course, he gets his ass kicked by Mr. Gibson in this one) He seemingly ...

Whirrrr-click. What the frig is that noise? Ah yes, the Hollywood machine churning out yet another movie. Regular as a prune-diet pensioner and just as fetid in its stench. Amongst the rancid waste of computer game movies and “ironic” horror flicks, is there a live ant in a hoover’s chance that the man behind Leon and the latest hot property from the East can save us from tepidity? ‘Fraid not, folks. ***THE PLOT*** “Johnny” ...

A Bad Case of Dragon Breath

Advantages: Fantastic action sequences, Jet LI
Disadvantages: Dumb plot, some may find the violence a little hard to stomach

...to find out what “The Kiss of the Dragon” is and I can assure you it is not very pleasant at all. The movie has an “18” certificate. Loads and loads of bloody ultra-violence, strong language, scenes of a sexual nature, drug references. This is another op that has been delayed by my dead PC, so I'm not sure if it is still on general release. I could only find one cinema showing it in Scotland although it still seems to be showing ...

A Star in need of a Script

Advantages: In just two words - Jet Li
Disadvantages: The highly unoriginal plt, dodgy script, appalling 'baddie' etc

...on. Personally I enjoyed Kiss of the Dragon more than Jet Li’s previous film, Romeo Must Die, perhaps some of this can be attributed to seeing it in the cinema rather than on the video, but in terms of originality and using Li’s potential it is still disappointing. The story is straight out of the cliché cabinet with Li playing a Chinese cop sent over to scenic Paris to oversee a joint operation, obviously it all goes wrong and Li ends ...
...that I actually enjoyed watching Kiss of the Dragon and so far have been (perhaps overly) critical of the film. The truth is it has an advantage over Romeo Must Die in one important respect, Li is given much more time doing what he is employed to do and that is dispatch a wide range of enemies using his majestic talents, he also is allowed to perform a series of Jackie Chan-esque stunts albeit with a less comic and harder edge than Chan. In addition ...

Advantages: Jet Li, fantastic fight choreograhy
Disadvantages: Stealing of most of Leons plot, dialogue, characters et

With a film with the likes of Jet-Li starring in it, is story really relevant at this point, after all you don’t go to the flicks to see this film expecting an oscar winning screenplay and performances do you? It is just a fighting flick for the boys after all aint it? Well yeah, but it has to be told anyways, so here goes…. Jet Li the ‘best of the best’ of the Chinese intelligence comes to Paris to personally protect some ...
...the ‘good guys’, lead by Inspector Richard, turn out to be the ‘bad guys’. They kill the VIP and try to frame the murders on Jet Li himself. Would Mr. Kung Fu stand for this, of course not, out come his magic mitts and before you can say Crash, Bang, Wallop he’s out the window and doing a runner on the streets of Paris. The baddies realising that he can bring them down if he comes forward with his story try to kill him. ...

Kiss of the Kicked Ass

Advantages: good action, not tame
Disadvantages: no plot at all

...said and done. Now comes Kiss of the Dragon. All the elements are here for a good time. You have a script collaborated on by one Luc Besson, you have Li in Paris and you have the female element taken care of by the always dependable Bridget Finda. You also have a villain who is actually not the slightest bit a pussy. "SO UTERO, WHAT'S IT ABOUT?" Well Li plays a Chinese intelligence officer Liu who goes to Paris to assist on an assignement to capture ...
...meaningful plot should look elsewhere. Kiss of the Dragon has it's eyes set firmly on the action. "SO WHAT KICKS ASS?" Well the action certainly does rock and there's a great deal. Guns are fired in great amount and there's some brilliantly coreogrpahed action scenes where bad guys get taken on and fried with red hot irons to the face while some even meet the nastiest of ends. It teaches you that grenades really shouldn't be messed with and where ...

...another Jet Li review. The Kiss of the Dragon, in my opinion, is one of Jet Li's best western films. The main reason for this is that its narrative is strong when compared to other fairly sorry attempts such as 'The One'. In fact, even as an action film, the plot is high above many others in the genre. It revolves around the main protagonist, Liu Jian (Jet LI) who has been assigned by the chinese police to cooperate with a sting operation in Paris, ...
...into France and in the spirit of friendship, the french police accept the offer of help. The head of the french unit, Richard (Tchéky Karyo) is apprehensive to accept Liu as he regards it as an insult to his capability as an officer. After a tense filled build up, the sting takes an unexpected turn for the worse and Liu Jian realises that he is in grave danger. From this moment on, he has to cope as best he can in a foreign country and deal with ...

Advantages: Great fight scenes
Disadvantages: Occasional cheesy dialogue

Jet Li stars in this film, playing cop Liu Jiuan who has come to Paris to assist in a major drugs operation. Here he meets Richard (Tchéky Karyo) who turns out to be a corrupt Inspector. He frames Liu for the murder of a Chinese gangster and a prostitute. Fortunately it is not known where he is staying until he comes to the aid of prostitute Jessica (Bridget Fonda) the shop he is staying at ends up a mess after a gruelling fight. This is a really good film, although the story line is really basic (written by Jet Li himself and the screenplay by Luc Besson and Robert Mark Kamen) ...

Kiss Fear Goodbye

Advantages: Jet Li, need I say more?
Disadvantages: Poor script, story not the most orginal

After the success of "The Matrix", more and more films are leaning in the same direction, wire work fights, slow motion/bullet-time etc etc. Of course none of which being able to compare with the likes of "The Matrix". The only film that has managed to pull off such a good bullet-time effect that it can give "The Matrix" a run for its money is the exploding hostage at the beginning of "Swordfish", one of the most under ratted but one of the most ...
...release of "Kiss Of The Dragon", a film that dares to be different, going back to the grindhouse roots of martial arts movies with no wires, no digital effects, only gritty, raw hand to hand combat that is second to none. Jet Li plays Liu Jian one of China's top secret agents sent on a mission to ...

A kiss from a good film.

Advantages: realistic action
Disadvantages: none

The kiss of the dragon was a completely different DVD, from what I ever bought. I have always enjoyed watching the Bruce Lee films, and this DVD was selling cheap in ASDA so I thought I would buy it. The plot of the film consists of Liu Jian, a police officer from china comes the Paris to help the vice squad to try and get hold of a Chinese drug lord. The head of the French police, Richard kills the Chinese drug lord and tries to frame Liu for the ...
...daughter, and give Richard the kiss of the dragon! Some of the scenes are similar to of Fist of Legend film. There are some well choreographed fight scenes with realistic violence in just like Bruce Lee’s films. Chris Nahon the director is not a director I have heard of, which did leave me to be wary about buying this DVD, however the title help to make me buy it. However the film was completely remarkable and enjoyable. Jet Li is always enjoyable ...

Kiss Of The Dragon

Advantages: Great fight scenes
Disadvantages: NOt particularly an original story

Kiss Of The Dragon was released in 2001 and stars Jet Li (Romeo Must die), Bridget Fonda (Jackie Brown) and Tceky Laryo (Bad Boys) and is set in the beatiful Paris. This blu ray release enhances the setting, quality of clothing, everything basically. Li plays Liu Jiuan, but is constantly called ...

Back to Basics

Advantages: Strong characters, realistic fights
Disadvantages: Poor dialouge, predicitable character motives

At first sight of "Kiss of the Dragon" try not to be put off by the desperate genre of the dying martial art films, because this gives all it can to shock the life back in. After disasters like "Romeo Must Die" and any recent Jackie Chan production, my expectations for "Kiss of the Dragon" were not exactly sky high. It seems as if every movie like this replaces a story and characters with silly special effects and high-tech action sequences involving ...
...an involving story which, to me is a real accomplishment in this genre. Jet Li starred in 25 Asian films before making his debut in America as the villain in the final Lethal Weapon film. His last film, "Romeo Must Die," was a pitiful action extravaganza that borrowed elements from Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet." Here, he makes a strong name for himself. He co-produces the film, stars in it, and created the original story. According the production ...

Kiss of the Dragon - Jet Li in excellent form!

Advantages: Jet Li Wu-Shu Master Kicking lots of ass
Disadvantages: None that I can think of

...this to bed straight away. Kiss of the Dragon is the creme de la bollocks and his best wesern movie to date. If you want to view a load of arty farty brokeback mountain shite then this movie is not for you. If you want an entertaning beat em up to satisfy your needs then this will do it. Cory Yuen and Jet Li must be congratulated on the fight coreography and the French director, Mahon, adds some gravitas and visual flair to the story elements. ...
...and Jet Li himself has retired from Wu-Shu movies. Bridget Fonda rounds out the cast as the obligatory hooker with a heart of gold. She works well with Li on screen and you can see echoes of her character that she played in The Assasin ( A re-make of Beeson's La Femme Nikita) I hope this review helped to clear a few things up. I would reccomend KOTD to anyone who like a goood action thriller. Joi wooi (Goodbye) everyone. Extras on the DVD include: ...

Jet Li made me jump for joy!

Advantages: outstanding martial arts combined with a gripping storyline make it a masterpiece
Disadvantages: shakey motifs and bad acting from co stars bring it down

This is Jet Li's best American film (except maybe for cradle to the grave), restoring my faith that he may still break into American cinema. With dazzling action scenes, beautifully choreographed by Corey Yuen, this movie takes a more realistic aproach to martial arts action. While the plot could have been a little thicker, if you're a Jet Li fan, you'll definitely want to see this. Part of what makes this movie so great are some of the little things ...
...fighting a dojo of Karate students, taken from his earlier movie Fist of Legend. Certain shots are also recognizable from some of his earlier works, such as The Enforcer. It still has a great deal of originality, and a little more of a Jackie Chan-esque resourcefulness in the action scenes. If you're wondering why I go on about the action so much, it's because that's all the movie really is. The plot is moved along through and with the action-no ...

DO NOT GO TO SEE THIS FILM

Advantages: Not many
Disadvantages: Too long by far

i WENT TO SEE THIS FILM AS A LAST MINUTE INVITATION FROM MY HUSBAND. It was absolutely ridiculous, brim-full of fatalaties and violence which was unbelievable. It had a plot of sorts but this was not really either very substantial or particularly interesting. Merely a vehicle of Jet Li's decision to make a film which would appeal to the lowest common denominator in Hollywood. I was led to understand that such films were no longer that popular and ...
...there were predominantly male - about ninety per cent actually. The setting of the film was fairly interesting as it was Paris and the chief felon was a Parisian cop or flik. He was totally evil but really the best thin in the film. So unless you are totally absorbed by violence I would not advise you to bother with this film at all. Final point - the one female in the film was also a credible actress and her screen daughter was briefly brought ...
