Advantages: Good fight scenes Disadvantages: A bit predictable
This was the first martial arts film I ever saw and the one that got me to take up Muay Thai Boxing. The plot is actually very similar to a lot of other martial arts films and is predictable in the sense that you know from the start that Kurt is going to beat Tong Po eventually.
It is well done though, and I do like the storyline of Kurt (Van Damme) wanting revenge on Tong Po for brutally breaking his brother, Eric's (Dennis Alexio), back in a fight. ... ...quite inspirational and, in parts, comical, especially the character of Taylor and his "jungle survivor quiche". Taylor is the one who introduces Kurt to Mr Xion. Mr Xion agrees to train Kurt and equip him with the skills he needs to beat Tong Po. There is, of course, a love interest for Jean-Claude Vandamme in the form of Mr Xions niece Mai Li.
Since then, I've done Muay Thai for 15 years. My instructor trained in Thailand for a while and he tells ...

Advantages: Inspirational- easy watching Disadvantages: cheesy- simple plot- but effective
Well where do I start with this film? This is one of those inspirational films like Karate kid that makes you want to get off the sofa and take up kickboxing or other martial arts or learn the splits.
This film has a real basic but predictable story line - without ruining it too much you can guess the ending within the first ten minutes. The plot wait for it, if you don't want to see stop reading now; Is revenge- Vamme Dam's (Kurt Sloanne) brother ... ...but doesn't have the necessary skills so learns from a master and of course there's the love interest too.. This is basically an easy watching adult version of Karate Kid. Would recommend this especially as it's a classic in the true sense and so easy watching and somewhat inspirational and touching. Very cheap price and certainly worth it ...

Advantages: Good fighting scenes Disadvantages: Predictable story
What can I say about this film? Its an absolute Van Damme classic! Van Damme plays a brother out for revenge against the crazy fighter who crippled his brother.
This film will never win any Oscars. The storyline is fairly predictable (as with many Van Damme films, but that’s not why we love them. Van Damme’s opponent is actually more amusing than scary looking (not that I d want to meet him in the ring) but they do put on a good fight ... ...final fight. If you are looking for an epic storyline or a nice romantic film then this is definitely not the film for you. However, if you are looking for some testosterone filled fun or some good old fashioned technical fighting without the strings, then this is the film for you. One of the early classics!
You can get this film from places like HMV or online from Amazon and the like. As its quite old you should be able to get it cheap. ...

Advantages: Good fighting / training scenes Disadvantages: Predictable storyline, cheesy in parts
JCVD films are one of those things that you either love or hate. This is one of Van Damme's earlier films and arguably one of the most memorable. Beautifully shot, with a decent storyline (he gets revenge for his brother who has been crippled by the local kick boxing champion, of course) - but that's not the reason Van Damme fans watch his movies. It's the fighting and the training scenes, and this film's got them in abundance. Great stuff. The only ...

Advantages: Great Film Disadvantages: lack of extra's
One of my favourite films of all time. Beautiful setting, great music, and also some deep themes, storyline wise, i dont want to ruin it for you, but the story line is that jean claude van damme's brother takes part in a kickboxing match in bancox and gets beaten up so badly, he may never be able to walk again. Van Damme seeks revenge and puts everything on the line. This film has action, romance, deep and spiritual music and also chessy music (when ... ...family movie, but great for watching with friends or alone (like me!). The first time i watched this movie i was 13 years old, it had a deep impact on me and inspired me to do kickboxing, i am now 19 years old and still i find this movie entertaining, and thats something i cant say for other films. ...
