Advantages: Amazing graphics, great fantasy film, some good humour Disadvantages: Some bland acting
...different to the 1950's film Journey to the Center of the Earth, even though it clearly has been based on that. I have also seen the older film and just feel that it is best not to compare the two as they are both good in fundamentally different ways. It's nice to be able to say that this film is worth seeing in its own right. Story
Professor Trevor Anderson works in his missing brother Max's lab, and on his return home one day suddenly realises ... ...film are in the actual journey towards that amazing place. The pace was a little slow starting to begin with, and there were a few scenes that I felt could really have been cut down quite a bit, but just as you start to feel that twinge of 'uh-oh, this is going to be a boring film,' suddenly you are thrown, full speed into the adventure. After this point, you'll be glad you watched.
Acting/Characters
To be honest the acting wasn't brilliant, but ...

...the three people on their journey but the ones which we did see where all good and made their roles fun and believable. I did not find I was getting bored at any point with only 3 main characters. I thought that the storyline was good if not a little far fetched at times but considering this was for children I found it very easy to follow and forgot that this was a fantasy at times. The story was at times very predictable but I did manage to see ... ...The effects in the film were very good and all looked very realistic. There were some points in the film when hubby said that it did not look right but as I said to him the lighting was not going to be too good as they were under the Earth’s surface. I thought that a lot of time, effort and money were put into all of the effects to make them all look as good and realistic as they did. The music throughout the film was good and appropriate for the ...

Advantages: Will keep young children (very young) entertained for an hour and a half. Disadvantages: Poor script, unimaginative, corny at times.
***Journey to the Centre of the Earth (2008)*** My son has been asking to watch this as we missed it at the cinema. I managed to get it to rent for only £2, from my local library for 1 week, which I thought was a bargain. ***Main Cast*** Brendan Fraser – Professor Trevor Anderson Josh Hutcherson – Sean Anderson Anita Briem - Hannah Ásgeirsson Jean Michel Paré – Max Anderson Jane Wheeler – Elizabeth Anderson It is 93 minutes in length. ***Plot*** ... ...chased by a dinosaur in a red hot lava type world. It then quickly comes back to the present day and introduces Brendan Fraser as Professor Trevor Anderson as a scientist. It transpires that Trevor’s brother Max has gone missing. Max’s son Sean goes to stay for 10 days with his uncle Trevor, whilst his mother is packing for a move to Canada. When she drops Sean off, she also brings a box containing Max’s work (who was also a scientist). Within minutes ...

...professor, Trevor Anderson, who will journey to the centre of the earth, however, not for any of the reasons Jules Verne noted in his book. This professor Anderson will travel to Iceland with his teenaged nephew in order to find his brother who disappeared years earlier whilst visiting the country. When the professor and his nephew arrive in Iceland, it's only to discover that the only person who could have given them any information has passed away, ... ...of the earth, a rough journey on the water with deadly fish and a brow-sweating run through caves to escape a dinosaur… all in all, one of the most boring versions of Jules Verne's novel.
Brendan Fraser's presence in this movie sets us up to expect a lot… way more than we're given. The magic of Jules Verne was lost on the director and both screenplay writers, and they totally massacred Verne's novel. Instead of wowing us with incredible scenery, ...

...a copy of Jules Verne's Journey to the Centre of the Earth. Inside the book are notes made by Trevor's brother, Trevor wants to investigate further and after a quick trip to his lab (he's a volcanologist ) where he discovers some numbers match the ones his brother has written out, Trevor and Sean set off to Iceland to find out more. After discovering the fellow volcanologist they'd intended to question is dead, they talk to his daughter Hanna, who ... ...in tow, and begin their journey toward the centre of the earth. There's obviously a lot more to it, but I don't want to spoil the story for anyone. ~Main Cast and Characters~ Brendan Fraser - Professor Trevor Anderson Fraser does pretty well, with a poor script and storyline. He plays the part in pretty much the same vein as he plays his character in the Mummy series of films. The film is obviously not one to be taken seriously and this is reflected ...

Advantages: None really Disadvantages: It offered no new ideas for this great story by Verne
...from Bill & Teds Bogus Journey (the falling scene) as well as a scene from Indiana Jones & The Temple of Doom (the mine car sequence that was done much better when Spielberg shot it using a 35mm camera and stop motion over 20 years ago) and with Frasers character constantly referring to the book as a crib sheet for what to do next it did make me wonder why they just didn't sell you a copy of the book with a label marked "Read this, its cheaper, quicker ... ...Mason version, its exactly the same as this without the vomit inducing 3D effects". Add in a minor storyline about a lab for sale, the emo teens father having gone missing (neither of which add anything to the movie 1 iota) as well as the insane notion that a PSP will Google at 30,000 feet and you will be left wondering why you wasted your money. I couldn't watch it with the 3D glasses (I have colour vision issues and they make me feel very ill indeed) ...

Advantages: None. Birem is Ok I suppose Disadvantages: Bad script, effects, score, acting... eveything.
...comes as little surprise that Journey To The Centre Of The Earth has had yet another remake. Unfortunately, as is usually the case it adds little to the original and takes alot away. Cue corny one liners, cue irritating bolshy kid, cue overblown special effects to try to mask the fact that the actors can't act. This film is not very good. Where the original was charming and entertaining, had a great star in James Mason and a brilliant score by Bernard ... ...the lead is wooden and bland and the musical score is a bore so generic for the genre you can almost sing the next orchestral burst before it's upon you. What are the positives? Special effects? Not really I'm afraid. Because the film is caught between making a sci-fi film and a 3D gimmick the effects look fairly bad throughout. It comes across like TV CGI where you would expect more from a Hollywood budget. Anything else? Anita Briem is OK as the ...
