Advantages: good sturdy production Disadvantages: some scenes with overlong sexual overtones
This production of Joseph & The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is the first film rendition of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice's debut musical, which was originally presented in its shorter form at college auditoriums back in 1970.
Based from the last parts of the Bible's book of Genesis - it tells the story of Jacob (whom God called ISRAEL so as to bear the lineage of His chosen race, as according to the Bible) and his son Joseph, whom he favoured ... ...story involves the dreams of Joseph being above his brothers, the multi-coloured coat that his father Jacob gave him, and the fulfilment of Joseph's visions in his lifetime. Presented in the setting of being in front of schoolkids and the teachers' faculty members as an elementary school presentation- it opens with the scene of the schoolkids being whisked into the school auditorium by the teachers, while everyone is waiting for the quite late arrival ...

...ipoints for the DVD of Joseph and his Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat as it is a show that I have seen and loved a couple of times at the theatre and felt sure that my daughters would love it too - which they do! This DVD is really a must for anyone who is a fan of musicals especially those of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice. I wasn't sure from the photos on the cover whether this was going to be showing an actual stage version but it's not. In fact ... ...few pieces of scenery. Joseph and his Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat takes us back to biblical times and tells the story of Joseph and his eleven shepherding brothers. Joseph is not at all popular with his brothers - partly because he is their father Jacob's favourite and partly because he keeps telling them about the dreams that he has that make out that he is destined for far greater things than the others! They get so fed up of him that they sell ...

Advantages: Great way of telling kids bible stories, great songs Disadvantages: The choreography isn't as good as the stage version
...to life brilliantly! Joseph is one of 12 sons, and his father Jacob's favourite. So of course his brothers are jealous! But when his Dad gives Joseph a brilliant coat, it's the final straw. They sell Joseph as a slave, and tell their Dad that he's dead. In Egypt, Joseph is sold to a rich man named Potiphar. Potiphar likes Joseph and vice versa, so he's soon made leader of the household. But after a fling with Potiphar's evil wife he ends up in prison. ... ...Donny Osmond stars as Joseph (which I think is daft, as he's about 40 and Joseph's supposed to be around 20, but he's still good!) with Richard Attenborough as Joseph, Joan Collin's as Mrs Potiphar and Maria Friedman as the Narrator.
It's not as good as the stage version, particularly the choreography, but it's still great. I think this just a brilliant way of telling kids bible stories without getting them bored! It's a great film for all the family, ...

Advantages: Fun, Cheap & A Great Sing-A-Long Film Disadvantages: None
Joseph and His Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is the dvd from the fantastic West End and Broadway hit musical. Which still plays to packed out audiences worldwide today, after it's first performance back in 1968.
This DVD, an adaption of the stage version turned into a film, rather than a live stage performance recording, starts off with the Narrator played by London stage veteran Maria Friedman. She plays the role very well and then walking through ... ...Any Dream Will Do.
Joseph is the favourite son and his brothers resent him for it, his father gives him an amazing technicolor dreamcoat, full of a dazzling array of stunning colors. His brothers are fuming so sell him to become a slave and lie to their father saying he has been killed. But what brothers don't know it that Joseph comes a 2nd to the Phearoh, Sing along to hit classic's including Any Dream Will Do, Close Every Door, Go Go Go Joseph, ...

Advantages: Great songs and a well known storyline. Disadvantages: Poor sets which made me feel I was watching a school play.
This version of Joseph is fantastic...if you're a Donny Osmond fan. Which is why I watched it in the first place. Otherwise I think it's a disappointing version of an excellent Andrew Lloyd Webber/Tim Rice masterpiece. The storyline sticks to the original well known story, with a host of wellknown songs, which in my opinion are well orchestrated and sung by the cast.
The sets are cheap and flimsy, and although this is intentional, it didn't add ... ...parts I didn't find terribly funny, although the Pharoah did have me chuckling!
The cast fit the parts well, and there isn't a bad performance amongst them, but although I adore Donny, I didn't think he was great in ths role.
I think that the songs save this from being a dire tragedy. Having seen the show in local theatres and the West End, I guess this was always going to be a disappointment for me. The music definitely saved this film from being ...

Advantages: Fantastic Music Disadvantages: Seems like a low-budget musical
Although it is a Bible story, this musical has instant appeal to everyone, as the music is so catchy, and there are a few modern references. The narrator is the most original character, as she tells the story to a group of schoolchildren and makes the whole storyline seem so much more interesting.
The other characters are good, although they can seem a little over-acted at times. The singing is great - they make it look very easy and really add ... ...to get started, but when it finally gets moving, it's a great starter for those unfamiliar with the Musical genre. The limited 'set' can be a little off-putting.
With the evergreen "Any Dream will Do" and the deeply moving "Close Every Door", this musical cannot help but draw in it's audience, leaving you on the edge of your seat for the conclusion. ...

...is about a boy called Joseph who experienced premonition dreams and who lived in Egypt many moons ago. He was envied by his 11 brothers because he was his father's favourite child. Joseph received a beautiful multi-coloured coat from his father and this was the last straw for his brothers. They kidnapped Joseph and sold him to be a slave to a rich man. The rich man's wife took a liking to Joseph and when he refused her propositions she told her husband ... ...of this talent and asked Joseph to interpret his dreams. Joseph agreed and then helped the King with the consequences of his interpretation. In the end Joseph is well-known around the country and his brothers go to visit him without knowing it is actually their brother. Joseph forgives them and accepts them back into his life and reunites with his father. The whole story is narrated by a third person, outside the story. Although the story is dark ...

The ever gorgeous Donny osmond in this classic Lloyd webber musical dvd is a must for any musical lover, or indeed faithful 'osmond' fan. Advantages: Great songs and cast Disadvantages: Too short!
Amazing from start to finish; truly one of Andrew Lloyd Webber's best pieces to date. Donny Osmond is superb in the role of Joseph, with an amazing support cast including Maria Friedman (as the Narrator), Richard Attenborough ,and Joan Collins.
This musical is timeless; the songs really get to the heart of the story, ranging from the upbeat 'Song Of The King'; to the Western and French numbers sung by the brothers; to Joseph's angsty solo: 'Close ... ...highly appropriate, with the teachers and pupils playing all the parts. The show is a rollercoaster from the start, kicking off with a mysterious but evocative rendition of 'Any Dream Will Do'.
