Advantages: Brilliant acting, fascinating storylines Disadvantages: None for me
...the complete boxed set of Jonathan Creek DVD’s. Dave insisted that I had told him that I wanted this set but all I had said was that I liked Jonathan Creek – I didn’t actually realise that this set existed so it was a great surprise for me!
The boxed set consists of five DVD cases – each of the first four contains two DVD’s and covers each of the four series. The final one only contains one DVD on which there are the two Christmas specials from ... ...of you not familiar with Jonathan Creek each episode centres on a seemingly impossible crime which is eventually solved by Jonathan whose job is to design illusions for the magician Adam Klaus.
Examples of the crimes include someone who is seemingly seen committing suicide by shooting herself hours after she actually died of a drugs overdose, a man who is found shot in a sealed bunker seemingly having committed suicide but his arthritis meant he ...

Advantages: Great scripts, baffling mysteries, different angle on the murder mystery genre. Disadvantages: Too few episodes!
...when I first came across Jonathan Creek, i was sceptical. Most murder mysteries don't appeal to me and i thought that this might just be another dull and unimaginative offering.
How wrong I was.
Jonathan Creek is like no other mystery programme. It is not your typical 'who-dunnit', it is more of a 'how-dunnit'.
The main character, obviously, is Jonathan Creek (played with aplomb by Alan Davies), a shaggy-haired, duffel-coat wearing magician's ... ...vivid dreams are coming true, Jonathan Creek never looks to the supernatural for explanations, and instead always produces a staggeringly believable and perfectly logical conclusion. It is not just the different angle on the mysteries that sets this programme apart from the rest. The programme, whilst predominantly being a serious drama, has many touches of comedic genius interspersed throughout each episode. Whether it be a witty one-liner or the ...

Advantages: Brilliantly written, good value for money Disadvantages: Very addictive!
A must-have for Jonathan Creek fans!
I won't go into the stories too much because one of the main reasons we watch them is to watch Jonathan work them out and to watch the story unfold!
If you have never seen Jonathan Creek before then let me fill you in about the show and the character. He works for a magician called Adam Klaus, designing the tricks for his show. Jonathan has a very anylitical mind and after meeting Maddy, a crime journanlist, ... ...impossible crimes.
Jonathan Creek is very well written. It has some very funny moments in it and always keeps you thinking. There is an enormous element of triumph when you work one out before he does (although to be fair, this has only happened to me twice!) and it will keep you interested from beginning until end of each episode.
The acting of Alan Davis and Caroline Quentin is superb. I find it very easy to distinguish Jonathan Creek from Alan ...

...was finished!
Alan Davies plays Jonathan Creek superbly, witty, dry humour and ever so dopey.
Caroline Quentin shines as big mouth, brass Maddy. She's so bitchy, jealous and mean to Jonathan, but hilarious!
The storylines really do leave you thinking "HOW ON EARTH?!" but there's always an explanation you never managed to crack yourself.
Adam Klaus the magician is also humourous, the mans a walking joke and he provides funny little side storylines.
... ...departs, and Carla, aka Julia Sawahla, joins. I found her increasingly irratating and made me have pangs for Maddy to return! Carla is the 'sexy' one, also mean like Maddy, but full of bravada to carry it off. Frankly I found her to be an irratating bore.
Other than that, great telly that will have you glued to your set with a nice glass of wine/bottle of beer, some Kettle crips and a big box of chocs - Perfect comfort watching Tv - Perfect for ...

Advantages: Alan Davies, great mix of Comedy and Mystery Disadvantages: Series 3-4 not as good as first two
...logical thinking mind of magician Jonathan Creek (Alan Davies) is called upon to sort things out. You may think this is like most other run-of -the-mill murder/mystery series but what sets it apart is the quite frankly mind-boggling murder situations, and the manner in which is presented really does more than hold your attention all the way through to the end. This is mainly due to the Jonathan's female crimewriter/"sidekick" (Caroline Quentin and ... ...understandable but never quite right. Jonathan on the other hand - being the crime solver extraordinaire - seemingly unravels the murder cases early on but doesn't tell until the very end. This makes for a slightly frustrating but gripping drama series that you can actually watch more than once. Even though you know 'who dun it' , it is always interesting to watch out for the more subtle clues that are left to tease the fact you missed it the first ...
