Advantages: Sondheim music, wit and talent! Disadvantages: Complex storyline?
...The Witch who pops into each story is played by the simply wonderful Bernadette Peters, The Prince Charming by Robert Westernberg..
In the first act, the characters set out to achieve their goal of living "Happily Ever After" through familiar routes - Cinderella goes to the Ball and captures the heart of Prince Charming, Jack climbs the Beanstalk and finds a land of Giants and Gold, Little Red Riding Hood survives her clash with the wolf at Grandma's ... ...aid of a handsome prince who climbs her long hair. Advantages: A fantastic journey of exquistie songs and lyrics by two fantastic writers Disadvantages: For anyone who isn't keen on musical theatre, treat carefully, it could put you off for good?
...characters! I won't go into the story line much more as this review is supposed to be what I think, not a synopsis, but I could talk about it for ages!
I would definitely recommend this DVD/Show as it is so different to the average 'song and dance' musicals! Sondheim is, only in my opinion a genius and Lapine is indeed a very very clever man...this has it all...
Please Please watch it...take the chance and have a go...I love it and it is without ... ...be searching for Sweeny Todd (Sondheim) and Assassins (also Sondheim) so they can be reviewed as they need it...I love Ciao as I can tell it like I feel it...
Great piece of musical theatre and well worth a watch!!
