Inspector Morse (played by John Thaw) is a Chief Inspector in the Thames Valley police. He loves opera, real ale, art, literature and doing the Times crossword. He is also irrascible, bad tempered, stubborn and very unlucky in love (he tends to fall for ladies who are either the culprit or who played a supporting role).
He is helped by the loveable Sergeant Lewis (Kevin Whately) who supports Morse through thick and thin ... ...the nicest things about the series is watching these main characters develop and their relationship grow, first to respect, then to friendship.
The third key character is Oxford, both town and gown. There are some beautiful shots of the countryside and most episodes are set in various colleges.
Although mainly a "whodunnit", there is good characterisation and empahsis on why crimes were commited. The viewer is led to feel sympathy for many of the ...

Inspector Morse was a British crime drama starring John Thaw as Chief Inspector Morse and Kevin Whately as Detective Sergeant Lewis. It was based on the novels by Colin Dexter. It was set in Oxford and featured the pair investigating murders for Thames Valley CID.
Morse was different from the normal sleuth because, although he was intelligent and mild mannered. He had many failings, such drinking, was sometimes abrupt with people and found relationships ... ...the police, who he had annoyed. This made him a believable character that the general public could associate with. Lewis was a bit wet behind the ears and found Morse’s cynical nature quite trying at times. The two juxtaposing men were a perfect partnership and meant that they saw murder cases from different subjective views.
I remember watching this and finding it difficult to watch at times, but once I got into it, it was immensely enjoyable. ...

Advantages: good to have all episodes all together. Disadvantages: can be quite expensive if you dont shop around.
...of a huge number of Inspector Morse episodes and covers a good variety of the old episodes with the new ones, if you are a morse fan this is a must have for your collection and is good to have all those dvds in one place. Also there was quite alot of information inside the box set for the viewer to go through about the inspector morse program and on the discs it also contains some bonus dvd material.
