Almost a Disaster.

Advantages: A decent first-half with generally fine performances from key players.
Disadvantages: An awful second-half with plot-holes, CGI overkill, and ridiculous last twenty minutes.

Synopsis (from Imdb.com): "Famed archaeologist/adventurer Dr. Henry 'Indiana' Jones is called back into action when he becomes entangled in a Soviet plot to uncover the secret behind mysterious artifacts known as the Crystal Skulls". "INDIANA JONES AND THE KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL" - Review by Jodi Johnson. I want to preface this by saying that there are spoilers here, that it is for those who have seen the film already, that I'm reviewing ...
...force us to), and that I'm not the biggest fan of the franchise, but have always kept my respect for the trilogy up, have followed it on top in parallel through the computer games (most notably the adventure ones by Lucasarts, "The Fate of Atlantis", and "The Last Crusade"), and I made sure to re-watch the first three over the weekend before finally getting around to seeing this fourth outing. I'm coming from a slightly outside angle, but identify ...

...The writer behind the INDIANA JONES AND THE LAST CRUSADE, Jeffrey Boam, tried at first, but couldn't come up with a script. Then, filmmaker Frank Darabont (THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION) took a crack at writing, but George Lucas rejected it. Much of the delay, however, was because of Lucas and Spielberg both working on other projects; the former was committed to completing his STAR WARS saga and the latter was equally busy. At one point, star Harrison ...

Advantages: The middle section is entertaining, Shia is... good?
Disadvantages: It's not good enough, poor plot, not as fun as you'd think, too long

...Once filming wrapped on 1989's Indiana Jones And The Last Crusade, all eyes fell upon the duo of George Lucas and Steven Spielberg to see what they had planned next. There were five films planned in the series, and with such a wealth of other items around that could be 'found' by Indiana - Excalibur, Atlantis, El Dorado - it seemed that the pair would have no end of fun with their franchise. But instead, feeling like there was nothing worthwhile ...
...happy with that. The Indiana Jones films follow the eponymous lead character; an archaeologist who is distinctly more 'hands-on' that most would be, in that he goes on missions to recover sacred artefacts before the Nazis can use them for their own evil purpose. The title role was filled with some flair by Harrison Ford, a former carpenter-turned-actor who had previously come to fame with Lucas while playing the role of Han Solo in the massively ...

The Magic Is Back

Advantages: The return of one of my generations greatest movie heroes
Disadvantages: Ray Winstone YAWN!!

...a 19 year absence comes Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull a movie putting the magic back into the family movie. Acknowledging the age of its star Harrison Ford it's not just real time that has moved on, the story moves on from the Second World War to the cold war, 1957 to be precise. Our intrepid Indiana Jones (Harrison Ford) and his good friend Mac (Ray Winstone) find themselves in the clutches of a new dimension of military the ...

As all the elements click into place it becomes apparent that we are in Roswell, New Mexico and the coffin has something to do with a certain reported vehicle crash in the desert. This unusual event is the starting point for Indiana, after a chance encounter with a young man named Mutt, leads them down the Amazon in search of Crystal Skulls and the supposedly mythical kingdom ...

Advantages: First film for 19 years.
Disadvantages: May be spoilt by having a revamped fifth film.

...the release of the last Indiana Jones film back in 1989. It is also stranger to recollect when the last film was at the cinema's the first Batman film and a James Bond film were also released at the same time in busy summer period, well here we are in the Summer of 2008 and guess what? Both Batman and Bond will be released this year as well. Guess what goes around comes around. This film being released so long after the Last Crusade is a big gamble ...
...is mainly because for an Indiana Jones film we are out of the comfort zone, there are no Nazi's as the time-line is now set in 1957 in the middle of the Cold War era, so in this film the Russians are the new Nazi's. The film starts immediately on a high note with Indy and his colleague Mac being kidnapped by the Russians; they arrive outside a Military Base in the Desert. The Base itself turns out to be the mysterious Area 51 facility; The Russians ...

Then he is stopped at a train station by someone called Mutt, who explains that Jones' former colleague, Harold Oxley, was kidnapped in Peru after having found 'the crystal skull'. Apparently, whomever returned the skull to its proper home would be given supernatural powers. Mutt is interested in the case because ...
...to not really being an Indiana Jones' fan. I've seen at least two of the previous films, so had an idea of what this one would be like, but didn't have the highest of expectations. Then again, I do appreciate Harrison Ford as an actor. And I think he does a good job here. He doesn't really look his age (nearly 70!) - I'd say he looks nearer 50, but the writers have based the film twenty years after the last one, so he is convincing enough as a physically ...

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of The Dubious Ending

Advantages: Harrison Ford, classic Indy humour and tension, the music
Disadvantages: That ending!

...I'm a huge fan of Indiana Jones. Always have been. I think the original trilogy of Raiders of the Lost Ark, Temple of Doom, and the Last Crusade are cinematic genius. That hat, that music, Harrison Ford...love it all. For years there were rumours of an "Indy IV". Scripts came and went, everyone seemed to be on board but it was all about finding the right script. Then one day, they had it. And the hype began. I was very excited, devouring Empire every ...
...Harrison Ford is Indiana Jones. Or Han Solo, depending on whether I'm in Star Wars or Indy mode...but as soon as he is in that hat, he's Indy. He doesn't even have to do anything in my book. But of course he does. He becomes that much beloved character who is now an intrinsical part of modern cinema history. The film is set in the 1950s, twenty years after the original trilogy set in the 1930s, which means there is no need for fancy make up to make ...

Indy is back!

Advantages: Entertaining and lots of action
Disadvantages: Some may prefer the other Indiana films

...been to see the latest Indiana Jones film this morning and thought I would share my opinion on it. I have always been a fan of the Indiana Jones films and wondered whether this could live up to my expectations as after all it has been quite some time since the last instalment we had! It's no hidden fact that a lot of people wondered if Harrison Ford could pull it off and so with this in mind I wasn't sure if I was going to be disappointed or not! ...

The film follows Indiana as he unravels the meaning of the letter and helps ...

Indiana jones and the outrageously high waistband

Advantages: starts off well
Disadvantages: rediculous ending

Film only review........ Indiana jones has been one of, if not the most talked about series of films in the world. I grew up with these films, and remember sneaking downstairs to watch them in my stripy pyjamas (can't say when that was, don't want to give away my age!). Indiana Jones, was simply the coolest guy in the whole world, to me. The way that he could solve all the clues, and fight his way out of any corner. He had it all, brains and braun. ...
...the fourth instalment of the Indiana Jones films, and is also known as Indy 4. It was released a whopping 19 years after the last crusade, and the concept was created by George lucas, and directed by Speilberg himself. How could the film possibly go wrong? Well, I think that it started to go wrong in pre-production. Lucas and Speilberg could not agree on the script, and especially the 'enemy' used in the film, and their prevalence. I think that ...

What were they thinking with the Ending????????????

Advantages: Good story to start, good acting
Disadvantages: Awful ending which was so far fetched

...the ever popular role of Indiana Jones. At the start of the film we see the Russians breaking into Area 57 where they kidnap Indiana and make him find the special metal case with mummified remains in. He soon discovers that an old friend of his, played by Ray Winstone is helping them. They are searching for the Crystal Skull. Indiana manages to escape from them but they have gotten away with the metal case with the remains in. Indiana is questioned ...
...out. It turns out that Indiana known his mother from many years ago. The letter is actually a clue to the hiding place of the crystal skull so they set off hoping to get to it before the Russians. Will Indiana and young Harry be able to solve the clues and reach the crystal skull before the Russians and will they work out the true meaning of it? Ok I will admit that I was not too horrified when I was given the choice of watching this film first. ...

I had a bad feeling about this...

Advantages: Rip-roaring stuff
Disadvantages: Cate Blanchett is wasted, um, certain things at the film's climax...

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull - it sounds like a computer game, doesn't it? Which is odd, as the many computer games based on Harrison Ford's iconic archaeologist have tended to have fairly sensible titles not too far removed from the original trilogy of films. When rumours of a fourth Indy film began to bubble (pretty much as soon as The Last Crusade came out on video in the early 90s), there was even an official statement that ...
...the classic Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis. Which is a shame, as that's still brilliant. But now Indy 4 is upon us, with a greyer, craggier Harrison Ford still swashing his best buckle, and Shia Leboeuf as a James Dean wannabe sidekick (who is still less annoying than Short Round). Leboeuf was presumably cast to take on the action scenes in the event of Ford being too decrepit to throw a punch, but the fact is that Indiana Jones remains ...

Indiana Jones & The Kingdom Of The Phantom Menace

Advantages: Harrison Ford has never been better
Disadvantages: Ray Winstone has never been worse, clumsy script, overelaborate plot.

...that I am a massive Indiana Jones fan. My first memory of going to the cinema was to see Raiders Of The Lost Ark when I was six and I have seen it at least ten times since. The subsequent two films don't quite measure up to the original masterpiece, but I still love them both, largely because Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones is the most compelling action hero of all time (including any of the Bonds as 007 - feel free to comment ;-)). So when a friend ...
...role as ever. He IS Indiana Jones and there will never be another. Like Bond movies, all Indiana Jones films open with a spectacular action sequence. Raiders Of The Last Ark's first scene which culminates in the escape from the forbidden cave while being chased by a massive boulder is the stuff of cinema legend. Crystal Skull opens with Indy and his sidekick Mack (played by Ray Winstone) being held by Russian spies. The escape scene is truly spectacular ...

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

Advantages: Good adventure
Disadvantages: Too much computer generation

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. It's finally here, the fourth instalment of the Indian Jones series which we have waited 19 years for is finally here and the verdicts are in, but is it any good or not? I went to see this at the cinema this weekend with three others, one of which had never seen an Indian Jones film before (how is that possible?) but we talked her into it. I am a big fan of the films and first saw them as a child ...
...the Russians as the baddies. Indiana Jones battles Soviet Communists who are trying to steal Mayan artefacts in the Amazonian jungle. They basically set off to find treasure, as is the premise in all the movies, and encounter various adventures along the way. There are lots of references to the previous movies. For example like I've mentioned before he still has his trademark hat and whip but also (and I think you have to be a real Indie fan to ...

Indiana Jones meets Star Wars

Advantages: Funny, Hugely entertaining, great cast, reasonable plot,
Disadvantages: Truly unbelievable in parts, bad timing, some naff effects, silly at times

I have always loved the Indiana Jones films, as they are each a little different but yet follow their own tried and tested formula. There is fast paced action, a quest, nasty villains, eye candy for the males with the heroine, a few scares and chills, plenty of funny moments and overall just great entertainment. The first three films were released fairly close together and I never really thought that we would see another Indian Jones film. Especially ...
...to see the latest offering, Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull, which I finally saw at the cinema yesterday, on Bank Holiday Monday. Did it disappoint or was it a raging success? Well a bit of both I guess but overall it was still fun and I did enjoy it. The film opens in 1957 in middle America at a time when Elvis was King in the USA and the country was in the grip of anti communist feelings. The plot, though simple in many ways, as usual went ...

No Snakes Please

Advantages: Rollercoaster Adventure, Funny
Disadvantages: Not The Best Indy Film

...No Snakes Please == Indiana Jones is no longer fighting the Third Reich. No, this time he's got the Russians to worry about, and the cold war is in full flow. There's no rest for the wicked! It turns out that they're after a crystal skull that could be used to great power against the west. A bit like the Arc for the Nazi's. Fly in the ointment, the man in the hat is back and this time he's older, wise and just a bit slower than before. Who cares ...
...problem with making a fourth Indiana Jones movie is the fact that it's leading man, Harrison Ford, is now in his mid sixties. No longer the nimble whip cracker he used to be. Ford really gets back into the role, with the same wisecracks and a little self parody. The start of the film is excellent, there's even a tiny reference back to the Arc from the first one. The trademark fedora used to good effect to introduce Indy. Some great cold war paranoia ...
