I remember trying to see independence day on the first week of release only to find it was such a box hit that the cinema was sold out and i ended up going ice skating instead. This was one of the few films in recent years that actually lived up to its billing. One of its greatest assets being the computer generated scenes that actually appeared almost real. The combination of Will Smith and Jeff Goldblum on paper must have seemed strange but as it turned out was an inspired one. I first watched this film when it was out on VHS and i think i ruined it by watching it too much so now i have bought it on DVD. This film is AWESOME!!!!! Full of action and comedy, which is what will smith is best at. Great story line, makes us humans look like ants and were the aliens just so good! There really isn't a word that describes this film but amazing does a good job of it. All the action seens in this film are performed very well, fast ...

This has to be the most hyped film of 1997, the story of the alien invasion of earth. As with most summer blockbusters the story is a lame one, although humorously performed by Will Smith, but the real bonus to this is the effects, I mean any self respecting Brit can only laugh at the White House being detonated from above by giant laser beam. The alien craft are awesome and the combat scenes are second only to the new range of Star Wars offerings ...

Oh dear. What a dreadful film. Words fail me in trying to describe just how bad 'Independence Day' really is. It manages to rip off just about every sci-fi film from 'War of the Worlds' onwards, but comes up with nothing more than pro-American dross. Some of the acting is little more than appalling, a problem that the over-the-top special effects do nothing to overcome. Star Will Smith has made this type of film his won, but at least 'Men in Black' ...
