Independence Day is a clever mixture of comedy, drama, and science fiction. Starring Will Smith, the film is about the American Independence Day in more ways than one. Basically the plot is that aliens come down to earth from the moon and position a fleet of their space ships over various major cities in different countries (although suprise suprise most of them are over America!), and the USA government put together a world plan to defeat the aliens ...
...this film, but I do have a couple of critiscisms. Why do the Americans take all the glory? And the film is historically unaccurate (the spaceship landing in the 1950's). But overall the film is good, but the funniest part is Will Smith and his "welcome to earth" line given to the alien after his precious little space ship crashed. Great movie! ...

Its got action, suspense, humour, fireballs, fit birds and aliens. What more could you want? Wil Smith is excellent, as is everyone else. The special effects were mindblowing and the sheer concept of those huge spacecrafts still fills me with awe. It is let down slightly by the totally American viewpoint and cheesey patriotic scenes....though what do you expect from an Hollywood Blockbuster? At least it doesn't go too mad with the poetic license. ...

Having read an opinion on this film earlier on today It inspired me to do the same after watching the film many times. The film stars Will Smith, in my opinion a BRILLIANT actor. I saw Independence Day at the cinema at a special preview. The effects were stunning, the cast were good, and the story neglected. Just what you'd expect from a Hollywood blockbuster really! I do love a film that makes me think....thwe first time I saw this film I left the cinema, bought a poster of the big ship blowing up the White House and stared at it for days...I kid you not! This film was one of the first Summer Blockbuster films to be marketed as a Blockbuster before it had even been released. Just imagine waking up one day and seeing huge ships (in the book they say they are 15 miles wide which in the film it doesnt do justice) ...
