SEX 'N' DRUGS 'N' DRUM 'N' BASS

Advantages: Funny, creative
Disadvantages: Not clear what the viewer is supposed to think!

Human Traffic is a weekend in the life of a group of Cardiff-based clubbers. The film follows the group as they prepare for a drug-fuelled Friday night out clubbing, which goes on long into Saturday morning and then the comedown of the rest of the weekend and gives us an insight into the “chemical generation” of the late 1990s. The central character in this independent, British-made film is Jip, played by the excellent John Simm. Jip works during ...
...job and lives for the weekends, counting down the days until he is free to meet his friends once again and hit the clubs. Jip’s best friend is Koop (Shaun Parkes), a budding DJ who works in a specialist record shop and has the gift of the gab when it comes to selling music to impressionable teenagers. Nina (Nicola Reynolds) is Koop’s girlfriend. She works in the fast food cafe of a cinema, after failing her interview to do Philosophy at college. ...

The Lights are Green For Human Traffic

Advantages: funny, real life, easy to watch
Disadvantages: none in my opinion

...now, my ops is about Human Traffic. When I speak to most people about this film and ask them if they have seen it they seem to stare at me blankly probably thinking I’m speaking of some Economics video talking about the problems of traffic. Well I can assure you now this film is not about Economics and people who think it is might be a little disturbed as to what it actually is. Plot: I think all good film reviews must start with the plot ...
...probably didn’t) and here it is. It is pretty hard to explain what this film is about but I will try my hardest. To sum it up in one word I would probably say “Drugs”, do not however get put off by this. Although this film is about drugs it is not as graphic and mellow as other films such as Trainspotting for example. It actually had me laughing all the way through and I don’t think anybody could not laugh at some of the parts ...

The Weekend Has Landed!

Advantages: You can see what the drug culture is like
Disadvantages: Hard to follow

This movie is suppose to be about the real youth of the ninties; the drug culture. Five best friends, 48 hours and a load of ecstasy pills. Having watched the movie a number of times now, i still do not completely know what was going on. The film is rather hard to follow as it keeps jumping, like the minds of those that are on drugs. It is a movie I find you have to watch in order to follow it. The movie is based around a group of 5 friends and ...
...We as the viewers are taken on a ride to see what it is like to be this group of friends. We are shown what they do and think when they are sober, drugged up and on a come down. Although it is a druggy movie, it is for everyone. It allows people to see what the drug culture of Britain is like and it one of the best drug movie made to make people realise the true affects of drugs. It is hard to follow as when on drugs you do not know what is going ...

Justin Kerrigan hits gold.

Advantages: Getting to watch the film over and over
Disadvantages: Getting tired and having to go to sleep

...time you've really done it. Human Traffic is going to upset the majority of film critics who will view the lack of plot, the drug induced dialogue and the futile outlook on Nineties Youth culture as a miserable and desperate view of how weekends are spent by ravers and clubheads across the UK. Moreover, they will spot camera work borrowed from Boogie Nights and even try and associate the whole film with 'Trainspotting' theme (because, lets face it, ...
...thing, right?) Well wrong. Human Traffic has landed - along with one and a half quality hours of clubs, drugs, pubs and parties - and its time to leave behind your preconceptions of what a film should be like (where's the plot? I want a plot!) and instead delve into the lives of Jip (John Simm) and his mates, Nina (Nicola Reynolds), Koop (Shaun Parkes), Lulu (Lorraine Pilkington) and Moff (Danny Dyer). There's nothing special about these five friends; ...

Trainspotting Watered Down

Advantages: It ends?
Disadvantages: It's awful

...but... Ok, we'll go for Human traffic. Neither of us know what it's about but Channel 4 had rated it so we'd give it a go. Bored shop worker Jip enjoys clubbing with his four friends, Koop, Lulu, Nina, and Moff. It's Friday so they have a whole 48 hours to hit the Cardiff club scene (should I say 'tidy' now? My Welsh sarcasm is lacking so please bear with me). And... ...Well nothing actually. That's the plot - 5 people go clubbing. Err, did I miss ...
...hitting imagery. It's obvious that Human Traffic tries to follow the same trend but it's watered down and almost sanitised - There are no after effects, no consequences, and it has nothing new to say. Clubbers may get the terminology (although it doesn't come into the big picture very much) but even they would probably prefer to be elsewhere. The rest of us mere mortals will be bored, disappointed, and maybe hope that the British film industry gets ...

Nice one Bruvva

Advantages: Energetic, hilarious...
Disadvantages: Sometimes tries too hard to be cool.

...Some were horrified by Human Traffic's portrayal of drugs - yes, it does glamorise drug use, but slating the movie for this would be missing the point. Human Traffic is about going out and enjoying yourself with your mates, whether you gobble pills like Pacman, or are a tee-totalling abstainer. There is no plot. A group of mates go out clubbing, take some pills, dance, then come down the next day. The credits sequence threatens to make a political ...
...at all, and a cameo by drugs guru Howard Marks gives you the feeling Kerrigan wasn't sure if his movie was cool enough, so chucked Marks in for good measure. Human Traffic makes it okay to go out and have a good time with your mates again. Essential. ...

Human Traffic

Advantages: Remembering my teenage years, V funny
Disadvantages: My parents would not approve of this

If you were born in the 70s, 80s or 90s and liked to party then you will probably love this film. It may remind you somewhat of your youth, or of others who were doing all these things when you were not allowed. The film is a touch exagerated in parts which add to the humour, However, it may have you thinking of all of the things you used to do, and shouldn't have been. Written by Justin Kerrigan this fims attempts to tell the real story of youth ...
...binge drinking, blagging guest lists, mobile phones, music and probably above all friendships and relationships. The film has five main characters whom all have boring jobs during the week and live for the weekend where they really let there hair down. Many parts of this story are true to how life was for those of us who were young in the 90s. There are parts of pure comedy with the different charecters and scenes. One of these includes a scene ...

I laughed all through it

Advantages: Brought back loads of memories
Disadvantages: None

If you have experienced the world of drugs, alcohol, raves, nightclubs and all night parties then this is a film for you. And even if you haven't you still may find it funny. The film follows 5 friends on a weekend out. Like a lot of people they all live for the weekend when they all go totally mad. God this film brought back so many memories, but at the same time it also made me realise just how ridiculous some of the things I did and said where. ...

The weekend has well and truly landed

Advantages: As close to the real thing any film has come
Disadvantages: Reminds you of all those comedowns

Just recently watched this film on DVD for the second time and I loved it. Its the story of a mad night out and about for a group of friends in Cardiff. You name it they get up to (for) it. The night starts in the pub, moves on (and up) to a club, onto (even higher) a house party, and comes down (with a big bang) in the early hours of the following day. If you ever been clubbing or sampled this "alternative culture" then you will have been through ...

One of my favourite films of all time

Advantages: Extremely entertaining
Disadvantages: Could of being longer

"Human Traffic" ia an absoulety amazing film, I have watched this film over twenty times now and every time I watch it again I love it as much as the first time. The film is about a group of young people who are friends, who go out clubbing and taking drugs together. Basically it is the film that portrays the club and drug culture in todays society. There are some very funny scenes in the film, and I know it may sound bad but if you haven't taken ...
...not understand. However I have spoken to people who have never taken any drugs, in their lifetime and after watching this film they decided to try some. Which in a way is a bad thing about the film, but I love "Human Traffic", and it is a great film to watch on a Sunday night after a long weekend, because it brings back all the good memories of your weekend. The film is based around about five or six people who live in Cardiff, and love going out ...

Human Traffic

Advantages: good film, amazing soundtrack
Disadvantages: largely unheard of for some unknown reason

As it is for many, many young people when the weekend lands "All that exists are clubs, drugs, pubs and parties!" This excellent film follows the weekend of a group a welsh friends (which one can you relate to the most?) in cardiff, from waiting for work to finally finish, all the effort of getting ready, through the drug and alcohol fuelled nightclub scene, followed by the afterparty and the always inevitable comedown. While the film shows the happy ...
...side, the paranoia, health issues, and of course the comedown blues. Throw in a top notch banging soundtrack with a whole host of classic dance tunes and you get an enjoyable watch, truly one of the last great films of the nineties! "The Milky Bars are on me!" ...

...of pill-popping adventures in Cardiff? Human Traffic follows five friends over a wild weekend of parties, drugs, dancing, sex, pop culture discussions, relationships, the club scene, the rush and the Monday morning comedown. The film is open and honest about drug use as part of nineties youth culture. Writer/director Justin Kerrigan has based these characters on people he knows. The dialogue is pretty realistic. A Pint in the Pub..

Advantages: none
Disadvantages: disappointment!

I'm sorry but where do these guys party? I live in Worcester which, for those of you who don't know, is hardly the party capital of the world! But this makes my weekends look like a riot! I was so disappointed by this film, I'd missed it at the pictures and couldn't wait for it to come out on video so when it was finally released rushed down to the shops with my £15 and grabbed a copy.I love John Simm ( of 'The Lakes' fame) and had told myself that ...
...to depend on his acting ability to see it through, however even he can't save this! For starters there is absolutely no plot, this really is just a tale about one weekend - and not even an eventful weekend! They go to a pub for a drink pop a couple of pills then go to a club ( for what seems like five minutes ) In fact I'ld even go so far as to say I found this film depressing! The characters were fairly likeable and there were occasional flashes ...

The weekend has definately landed!

Advantages: the music , the characters
Disadvantages: it only lasts for an hour and a half.

"The last great film of the nineties" That was the claim on the front of the box when i bought this , but if you ask me they could have got away with ,"The greatest film of the nineties!" If you are aged between 18 and 30 and have ever experienced the thrill and buzz of a night out in clubland then this film is for you. It opens with an introduction to the main characters in the movie which will have you grinning from ear to ear instantly! You can ...
...see , do and experience during the whole of this film. The superb acting , fantastic story line mixed with the pumping soundtrack ,supervised and mixed by Pete Tong ,make for a film that you wont forget in a hurry! as Moff said: "I swear , im havin the best time of my life just being off my pickle and feelin the music!"
