The story revolves around hotel House Manager Paul Rusesabagina (Don Cheadle), a Hutu married to Tatiana, a Tutsi (Sophie Okonedo) who finds himself helping over a thousand refugees. He is not portrayed as a saintly figure by any means - in fact, his pragmatic and astute businessman persona reminded me very much of Schindler (indeed, the situation bears more than a few similarities to events preceding the World Wars, with an assassination ...

Hotel Rwanda is a disturbing film to watch, much like the yesterday's news that it reports. I remember when my father was watching the new reports of Kosovo and the Racak Massacre in 1999, and how the horrifying events and the actions of these "evil men", as he called them sent him further into depression, just by watching the news. I think that watching Hotel Rwanda has had a similar effect on me. It is a film that has put me at the forefront of ...

Advantages: Follows a fantastic story, shows what the world turned their backs on Disadvantages: Some horrifying scenes, can make you feel as though you should do something to help
The first time I watched this I thought it was fiction I had no idea that it was a true story and couldn't believe it when someone told me that it was. It follows the story of Paul Rusesabagina who uses bribes and persuations to save over 1,200 Tutsi civilians during the Rwandan Genocide who were being slaughter by extremist Hutu militias.
This film is not for the lighthearted as it shows some awful and shocking scenes but that is the main point ...

I went to watch Hotel Rwanda as it had been in my DVD collection for a couple of weeks and there nothing else on TV. I was not expecting much, but I now have a new favourite film. Don Cheadle is amazing as the lead character and Nick Nolte supports him well.
The story outlines how one man saves hundreds of persecuted people from the mass genocide of one half of Rwanda. Thankfully, the story does not centre on the bloodshed and slaughter that occured ...
