...When they return to their hostel they discover they have missed the curfew. Oli and Paxton set about antagonising the sleeping residents of the hostel by singing and shouting in German. Unfortunately the desired intended effect of gaining admittance has a failed effect and they immediately have bottles thrown at them. One window however opens and they are given admittance. I had heard and read some great things about Eli Roth's "Hostel" and although was never in a rush to watch it, ... ...down with expectations of being entertained as well as horrified. Well sadly I was neither entertained nor horrified, in fact I was more bored than anything as I really failed to see what all the fuss was about and I have even watched it a few times just to make sure it was not just me having an off day. For me the whole film is riddled with problems right from the start which makes it less than interesting viewing, although I would imagine a younger ...

The three backpackers get on a train to Slovakia and make their way towards this hostel they have been told of, discovering when they arrive that it is just as perfect as they have been told (or so it would first seem). Certain aspects of this film I quite enjoyed, the gore element of 'Hostel' is really quite brutal and Eli Roth certainly doesn't hold back in his display of it all. Certain scenes are horrible and the use of sound really heightens the agony of the on-screen events. You genuinely feel for the individuals on screen and really feel the pain that they ...

On the train the next day the trio meet a German business man who confirms Alex’s claims about the beautiful women who love sex and American men. However Josh is taken off guard when the man seems to strokes his knee in an appropriate manner leaving Josh to fly of the handle, forcing the man to apologetically leave their company … much to the amusement of Paxton and Oli. Like a shot, they get on the train and arrive, only to find that the hostel is even better than they were expecting - the room they are sharing comes complete with Eastern European beauties. Hostel is the brutal, sadistic horror written & directed by Eli Roth (Cabin Fever) it's produced by legendary director Quentin Tarantino (Kill Bill). Eli Roth is famous for his low budget but extremely gory & violent horrors & Hostel is no exception.
I was recommended this by a friend who said it was a good film, however I think they just wanted to see me squirm! I quite like horrors but I only enjoy them when they have a really gripping storyline ... ...Slovakia & hear about a hostel filled with girls with no inhibitions. The two friends board the train to Slovakia to find this hostel & hope to pull a load of girls.
However the man who recommended the hostel to them is the man who is knowingly informing of a hostel in which they will be tortured & ultimately killed. How does he know this? Because he's part of the group who carry out these heinous acts.
On arrival Josh & Paxton check themselves ...

Advantages: Some fun gangster kids, a couple of hilarious scenes. Disadvantages: You can't get back the 90mins of boredom
The most horrific thing about Hostel is the realisation when the credits roll that you can't get the time you just wasted watching it back.
It's hard to know where to begin really. It's a product of a Hollywood that has lost touch with Horror. This film really is a victim of its own hype. Advertised as one of the most horrific and gory movies ever, it meets absolutely none of the promise
The story is simple, a pair of obnoxious, moronic Americans ... ...heading to Slovakia to a Hostel guarenteed to be full of hot girls for them to have their way with. It's no spoiler to say this turns out to be a trap, and the annoying Americans end up at the mercy of sadistic madmen who delight in torturing and chopping up innocent tourists.
The idea itself isn't an entirely bad one, bit it is executed with a complete lack of quality.
Plot "twists" are signposted in neon lights long before they happen, so there ...

...a great horror film. Hostel is about a small group of backpackers who travel to Europe in search of women and a great experience after college. For years before Hostel was released, there was a lack of horror films that actually did what they said on the tin. Hostel changed that, and took us once again into a world of limitless terror on film.

Hostel does paint a very graphic picture of how cruel one human can be to another, and makes a point of trying to understand that there are indeed two very different human sides to this twisted world.
There'll be moments when you look away in disgust and cover your mouth, as the films drags you through the hellish intensity.
Hostel lives up to its potential, in that Eli Roth wanted to make a film that, when you strip ...
