Who Hears Horton?

Advantages: Lots of gags, great animation, strong voice cast, lots of adventures.
Disadvantages: Odd cast end credits singalong.

Horton is a kindly elephant who thinks he hears a voice coming from a tiny speck. The voice belongs to the Whos, a minuscule race of people led by the Mayor of Whoville. Horton decides to protect the Whos and their home, but this leads to no end of problems. No-one else believes there really are people on the speck because they can't see them and the Mayor of Whoville has a similar problem convincing his townsfolk of the existence of a giant altruistic ...

Blue Sky studios are to Pixar what Warner Bros Animation was to Disney; the anarchic younger cousin more interested in cracking jokes than painting pretty pictures. I've really enjoyed their back catalogue of movies such as "Ice Age", so I had high hopes for their latest flick and I wasn't disappointed. Directors Jimmy Hayward and ...

Horton Hears a What???

Advantages: Great fun family film, excellent animation, good story
Disadvantages: None

Horton Hears a Who is a film which has been based on very popular book by Dr Seuss. As my 6 year old is a fan of the books I decided to treat him to the film. I will admit I have now watched it twice as I wanted to watch it on my own with no interruptions first! The film stars an elephant named Horton, voiced by Jim Carrey, who lives in the jungle of Nool. He has many friends and spends his day teaching the children. One day when he is having a ...
...coming from a tiny speck. Horton follows the noise and manages to catch the speck on a flower. No one believes him when he tells them and tells him to stop being so silly and to stop making the children believe daft things. Horton knows he is right and soon he managed to talk to one of the people on the speck. The speck is home to Who-Ville, this is a lace where nothing goes wrong and everyone is happy. The mayor of Who-ville manages to talk to Horton ...

Steve Carell is also a well-known actor, he plays the mayor of Whoville, which is also annoying because we don't actually know he's name, he's only known as the mayor, which annoyed me. Steve Carell is starting to grow on me and he acted well in this film, well okay maybe ...

Horton Hears A Who

Advantages: Hilarious! Great animation and ideas.
Disadvantages: Carrey can be a bit annoying.

Horton is a large and bumbling elephant who spends his days teaching the other baby animals about nature. Voiced by Jim Carrey, he is basically exactly what you'd expect from any character related to Carrey; Exciteable and almost permanently delighted! One day a small spec floats past him and he hears what he thinks are little screams coming from it. Instantly curious, he attempts to communicate with the spec, eventually getting into contact with ...
...prank, but eventually believes what Horton is saying - and realises thhat Whoville is in danger. SO, it's up to Horton to take the spec to somewhere safe where the Whos can live without being disturbed. But of course, it's not that easy and there are many obstacles in the way - the most significant being an angry mother kangaroo who thinks that Horton is a liar and hates that he's encouraging the children to act in a similar way. I think it's a ...

...actually enjoying this film. Horton (Jim Carrey) is an Elephant in a jungle who teaches some of the children animals about the jungle and the surroundings. One day, he hears tiny, tiny screams coming from a spec of dust which is flying in front of him - and so, he gives up what he is doing to give pursiut to try and catch it before it meets doom. Now, although this is not one of the best kid films about - it definately does not compare to Shrek (1,2 or 3), Wall-E etc for entertainment to adults - it is still worth a watch (if you have kids) for the pure fact that it keeps the attention (or did mine anyway) ...

The beginning part was okay but during the middle (I'm not sure when) I fell asleep. The story was weak and not as humourous as first hoped. Is it just me or has Jim lowered his standards? Elephant Discovers Small Universe on Spec

Advantages: Thought provoking children's film
Disadvantages: Possibly a bit long for some younger viewers

This film may appear to be obscure nonsence but it is brilliant on so many different levels when you think about it during / afterwards, and younger viewers will find its special affects spell binding even if they don't understand all of the films points. I particularly like special cartoon affects in this film where cartoon animation and water animation go together, making the cartoon world look much more real. It is about an elephant who discovers ...
...in the wind, and he tries to convince others of the reality of its existence. It reminds us that there are life systems within life systems and the smallest act in one can have profound affects on others. The elephant never gives up on his personal mantra of being true to his beliefs whatever the personal cost. Brilliant film. Can be bought in DVD format or for Blue Ray. ...
