A beautiful film enjoyed as much for its visual qualities as its storyline (although this in itself is clever). This film is a work of art that includes fantastic choriograph, calligraphy and colour. I particularly enjoyed the same sequences being played out in different colours according to the version being told. Fantastic viewing. ...

Advantages: Interesting, fast going, challenging. Disadvantages: Requires concetration.
The first time I saw it I didn't understand as it was in Mandarin and subtitles in Swedish. A nameless warrior wants to kill an emperor. Isn't that ordinary? But when that warrior talks to the emperor introducing different versions of the assassins' plotting the simple story becomes intruiging. I was fascinated by the way the fights were filmed, by the play of colours and textures and by the way the producers/directors managed to create a complex ...

Advantages: Stunning visuals, score is amazing, great cast Disadvantages: Over the top at times, story might confuse some people
This is by my favourite director Yimou Zhang I was looking foward to it so much, and it also didn't dissapoint cause its also probably one of my favourite films of all time. The main reason being the score is fantastic, as is the story and particularly the costumes, it also features Ziyi Zhang which is a definite good thing. I do not think this should have been dubbed because in my opinion it ruins it somewhat and watching it in mandarin Chinese ... ...this truly epic movie. The film focuses on ancient China as the description says, more accuratly it is mostly about the assassins: Flying Snow, Broken Sword and Long sky (Maggie Cheung, Tony Leung Cheui Wai and Donnie Yen respectivly) who have sworn to kill the king of Qin. It is quite unusual though because the film is mostly centered around a conversation (and series of flashbacks) with the king of Qin and Jet Li's charactor, Nameless. which is ...

Advantages: Very well directed and scripted Disadvantages: Not just simply action
My initial reaction to this film was that it would be more action based film and that the story would just be overpowered by the action. I was surprised and thrilled to find that the story was not ignored and actually complimented the action. This film has quite alot of depth and the story has been very well constructed. At first i questioned Jet Li's performance as i was not convinced at the start of the film but as the film reached half way i think ...

Advantages: Jet Fans will like it Disadvantages: Over-dubbed
This film IS one to miss! I was really looking forward to the film as most people probably are because of the adverts but they are deceiving! Firstly, the plot-line is confusing, not explaining who is who. The second and most obvious is the voices dont fit the people, I know dubbing is sometimes required but it's not even Jets voice!! And also, it sounds like one person has done the voices for 90% of the cast. (There's an old man later in the film, ... ...on par with Crouching Tiger/Hidden Dragon but often you dont understand who's winning or even who's fighting! The REALLY tacky wining from the female fighters are just laughable and the 'lake' fight doesn't even entertain in a amusing tongue in cheek way like the rest. For the people who dont want to know the ending, look away now!.........................................................................................................................He ...

Advantages: if you are a true Jet Li fan this is for you. Disadvantages: the story line could have been better?
For those of us that admire Jet Li and marvel in his supernatural abilities we will be pretty disappointed that the film is'nt based around the great man himself. Although the special effects etc... were great, it can easily fall into the 'crouching tiger' catagory because the soundtrack sound's like they borrowed it from 'hidden dragon'. Not only does it sound the same but the fight scene's are very similar but they can be over looked if you are ...

Advantages: Great Sound Disadvantages: Subtitled in english
In ancient times China was divided into seven kingdoms. Qin, the king of the Northern Province, is under permanent threat of assassination attempts. His greatest fears are the warriors "Broken Sword", "Flying Snow" and "Sky". One day one of the minor officials of his kingdom enters the palace, claims that he defeated all three of the emperor's adversaries and tells his story; how he beat "Sky" in a duel and used the love between "Broken Sword" and ... ...cinema having heard some of the hype leading to the movie, but with no real knowledge of the storyline, and expecting a lot.
I couldnt believe i actually paid money to go and watch the film because i thought at the beginning of the film, it will get better but it doesnt. Dont get me wrong, the storyline is good but could with more work.
Compare to other Jet li's movies, i hated this one and it didnt meet to my expectations at all. This is only ...

Advantages: Great action movie with amazing swordplay and a great story. Disadvantages: None
This is a great film. It is a very well scripted and produced martial arts film set in China before the first emporer. It shows the origins of modern day china and who the first emporer was. The central cahrecter is Nameless a swords man from Quin province who is invited to meet the king of Quin as a reward for killing the three deadliest assains in China. Through a series of flashbacks, we get to see how nameless killed the assains. The sword fighting ...
