Sizzling Perfection

Advantages: Perfect Casting, Story, Action, directing - the list goes on forever!
Disadvantages: None what so ever - although at present, there are no DVD extras.

Undoubtedly ‘Michael Mann’s’ best, Heat is an excellent blend of fine acting, a superb storyline, suspense and perfect precision – action set sequences, Making it what I believe to be the greatest heist movie ever made. (Ahead of ‘Heist’ and sadly even ‘Reservoir Dogs’). As most know Al Pacino and Robert De Niro are two of the most well-known and respected actors still working on film. Brilliant at what they do and have impressed audiences with ...
...give impressive performances. Heat is a long film, originally shown with over 3 hours of presentational time, but with repetitive editing, it was cut down to 171 minutes. However, do not let the length put you off seeing the it, there is never a boring moment, with a story to keep you gripped and THE BEST bank heist you will ever see! You can watch Heat more than once, still receiving the same thrills from the same scenes. The camera angles were ...

...action is the juice." Heat is a cat and mouse game that functions on many levels. Hanna and McCauley circle around each other as hunter and prey although it's never clear which is which. But if you have any kind of love of the movies of the past 30 years, you cannot watch Heat without being aware of another angle. Al Pacino is Hanna. Robert De Niro is McCauley. This is the first and, to date, the last time these titans of the cinema have shared ...
...and part of what makes Heat much more than an action movie. Hanna: You know, we are sitting here, you and I, like a couple of regular fellas. You do what you do, and I do what I gotta do. And now that we've been face to face, if I'm there and I gotta put you away, I won't like it. But I tell you, if it's between you and some poor bastard whose wife you're gonna turn into a widow, brother, you are going down. McCauley: There is a flip side to that ...

Mann's epic mark on film history

Advantages: Superb attention to detail; milestone in acting; stylish and authentic; intense, deep and complex
Disadvantages: Mann's style not for everyone; arguably disappointing climax

...a film of the night, Heat is a film of the day, and both films match up to each other in terms of the thoroughly absorbing L.A atmosphere Mann so masterfully brings to life. However, the comparison between the two films is that Heat is on the bigger scale, perfectly made, detailed, stylish and thorough. This is perfection by Michael Mann, where he's doing what he does best; compelling, character-driven crime epics. Remade from his 1989 film, L.A ...
...yet. Amidst the crime in Heat is an underlying range of interwoven sub-plots, including Hanna's own marriage problems, to McCauley's bond with a woman he meets, to a psychopathic ex-colleague of McCauley reaping havoc. It all ties in, and contributes beautifully to the story, and the ultimate climax. It's not just a story driven by its plot, but goes for a rich combination of both character and story. In the end, not a detail is missed, everything ...

For Once Crime Is Cool

Advantages: Great Performances, Engrossing Style & Story
Disadvantages: None

...was the initial buzz. But Heat is much more than that. It's a fantastic character study of two men effectively just doing their jobs and sticking to a code. Mann's script crackles with some pulsating dialogue of which the Coffee Shop scene is king. But aside from that Mann shows the smart side of crime. A large part of the film shows the planning of a bank score and it's fascinating stuff. Aside from Pacino and De Niro, there is a strong supporting ...
...and beautifully played out. Heat is one of those films that pushes close to three hours but all the time you never realize it. That's because it's incredibly engrossing and pushes all the right buttons. After ten years it still remains as fresh as ever. If you have never seen it then I implore you to track it down at the next available opportunity. -"WHO? WHO? Mann's Epic Masterpiece

Advantages: Intelligent and stylish action romp
Disadvantages: None

...and intense action scenes makes Heat unmissable. Based on Michael Mann's 80's TV film 'LA Takedown', Heat is a true rarity, it combines a crime thriller with equal measures of action and drama. At nearly three hours long, Heat is not a film for impatient viewers, instead it qualifies as an epic. ...Heat is an intelligent character driven crime drama, which pits an obsessed homicide detective against an elusive criminal. These main protagonists are played by Al Pacino and Robert De Niro - the first film in which these two actors, arguably the two greatest actors of their generation, appear on film together. A Los Angeles Crime Saga

Advantages: Direction, Performances, the action
Disadvantages: pace not too steady, but still good fun, bit long

Heat sees Robert De Niro and Al Pacino square off, making this movie sizzle with great excitement. Written and directed by Michael Man ("The Insider", "Ali") this film goes into the realms of a modern masterpiece. Heat is based on a simple concept of cops and robbers. Robert De Niro plays the master thief with a motly crew in the form of Val Kilmer ("Red Planet"), Tom Sizemore ("Saving Private Ryan") and Denis Haysbert ("24 television series"). ...
...especially when people may consider Heat to be a dumb action flick but it honestly isn't, trust me. The surporting cast all have there moments too; Tom Sizemore, Ashly Judd, Jon Voight and Natalie Portman all perform well and do the main cast justice. Al Pacino is fantastic as awlays being the smart detective who's one step behind the equally smat and impressive De Niro. Director Michael Man is a genius with the camara giving this world of cops ...

Running hot and cold

Advantages: Pacino and DeNiro (if you like them)
Disadvantages: Pacino and DeNiro (if you don't like them)

There was a real buzz about this film when it was released because for the first time, two of the biggest names in Hollywood were finally sharing the screen. In a heist movie with lots of gun battles and car chases. And Val Kilmer. I have a feeling that this review isn't going to make me very popular. I know that Robert DeNiro and Al Pacino are widely regarded as two of the greatest actors of their generation, but I have to say that I strongly disagree. ...
...acting style, but I really can't understand why. DeNiro mumbles his way through every film, shrugging and cocking his head to one side in place of actually bringing a tangible something to any of his characters. And he ALWAYS plays either gangsters or psychopaths. And Pacino substitutes shouting for real intensity on a regular basis. And here they get to do it together. The problem with this film is that it is genuinely overshadowed by its stars. ...

Advantages: Excellent Film
Disadvantages: No Special Features

The Film Heat is the newer and much better version of a little unknown called LA Takedown. Its basic plot is of a cops and robbers theme but don't let this put you off as the quality of acting is unsurpassed in this genre film. The film is huge, not only in terms of size, weighing in at a mighty two and a half hours but also in terms of the heavy weight actors used. From the mighty Robert DeNiro to Al Pacino playing the lead characters with support ...
...stonking film. Right from the outset this film grabs your attention with high power heist through to a full scale gun battle in downtown L.A. to a very tense ending. All through the film you find yourself siding with both the good guys and the bad guys and never knowing what is going to happen next. However the DVD of this film is not as good as expected. As is normally the case with these type of films i.e. over a certain age there are no extra ...

Best film of all time

Advantages: Great plot and acting
Disadvantages: A bit violent and on for 3 hours...

Firstly I'd like to say that this film is my favourite ever. The plot is so tense and realistic, you feel for the characters throughout the entire film and especially the ending fight. I bought this film about three months ago (july 2000)after watching it with a friend a few weeks ago. I saw it for an excellent £5, and thought that there was no better way to send a well earned fiver. The thing that stands out most in the film is the superb acting ...
...The acting makes us feel like we know the characters really well and will have you clogged up in emotion throughout the film, and cheering along your chosen character to kill the other one. However, parents may want to keep their children from watching the film because of ver bad language and scenes of violence. Overall, I would give this 5 out of 5. Excellent. ...

Hot!

Advantages: great acting and action
Disadvantages: lengthy at times........

Brilliant! - excellent dialogue between Robert De niro and the amazing Al Pacino. The acting is superb and I was kept on the age of my seat throughout the whole film. There are some interesting ironies also within the film so while being an action drama, this film will also appeal to the intelligent. The line - up is great with the legendary Jon Voight and Val Kilmer supporting Pacino and Deiro. I would recommend this film to anyone who enjoys watching ...

H E A T is one of the greatest movies ever made. You put two excellent actors together to face off in a movie with well direction from a very good director, and you get this movie. I swear that the three hours go by so quick ever time you watch it. Quoting from my good friend, Jerry, "This movie cannot be explained as one genre. It has everything in it. Action, drama, suspense, romance, comedy, you name it." What he means really is that this movie ...

Heat

Advantages: de niro and pacino!, dialogue, street shoot out, supporting cast, intelligence
Disadvantages: literally: none.

This lengthy cops n' robbers thriller could not fail, one would think, considering it paired off two of the biggest legends in cinema. Michael Mann's ambitions, however, went way beyond the inevitable pairing of Pacino and De Niro in a movie to create an absolute masterpiece of contemporary film drama; that is perfectly paced, and incisively acted. Heat is not just a remarkably powerful and invigorating experience, but one of the greatest films of ...
...was the first time Pacino and De Niro acted together; both starred in The Godfather Part II but were separated chronologically. Thankfully, Mann handles the unquestionable talent of both actors with maturity: he neither bores or over-exhausts the audience with characterizations or plot, which keeps the level of interest high from beginning to end of a three hour plus running time. What keeps Heat fresh is its philosophical view of both sides of ...

Classic Crime Thriller

Advantages: Great performances, Fast action, Longer than it feels
Disadvantages: Kilmer's wig

along with Collateral, Heat is one of director Michael Mann's LA love stories. the city itself is as much a character in the film as De Niro or Pacino, beautifully photographed (entirely shot on location) and exploited for some magnificent imagery. plotwise, the film focusses on a team of high-tech thieves (led by De Niro), pursued by over-zealous policemen (led by Pacino). from the off, it is clear that a showdown will occur at some point, this ...
...grittiness and realism inherent to Heat will be infinitely more refreshing than another matrix-clone. with performances that astound at every turn, Heat redefines the action-thriller and irritates at the same time. timeless and classic, this sort of film-making should be second-nature to todays supposed A-listers, yet it isnt. and thats the only bad point to Heat ...

The action is the juice

Advantages: Technically brilliant
Disadvantages: The bad guys lose again!

This 1995 action epic was directed by Michael Mann and is studded with mega stars, including Al and Bob together for the first time. Starring: Al Pacino - Vincent Hanna Robert De Niro - Neil McCauley Val Kilmer - Chris Shiherlis Jon Voight - Nate Tom Sizemore - Michael Cheritto Diane Venora - Justine Hanna Amy Brenneman - Eady Ashley Judd - Charlene Shiherlis Neil McCauley is a very professional thief, and Vincent Hanna is an extremely ...

Both McCauley and Hanna will 'stop at nothing' to do what they do best even though it puts there personal lives in complete turmoil. The technical side of the movie is outstanding, McCauley is extremely proficient and Hanna is extremely streetwise. The daylight bank robbery scene shot on a road is one of the best shooting scenes I have ever seen, and was apparantly ...
