Advantages: CGI effects, acting, one liners Disadvantages: Lots of the plot missing, things in the wrong place.
When the Harry Potter films first came out, I was absolutely ecstatic! I loved the idea of the wonderful world that J.K.Rowling created on the big screen and went to watch the first film. After that, I couldn’t stop jabbering on about it and how good it was. However, I didn’t go potter crazy and buy every electronic wand or t-shirt that was for sale, I just appreciated the movie and then went to watch the second one. The second was quite good, but ... ...in my DVD collection……

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban is my favourite book of the HP series (so far, I suppose but I doubt the last two will be it for me) and it was with a mixture of anticipation and dread I sat down in the cinema to watch it. Butchery of my favourite HP book might put me off altogether, but I have to say I go against the general opinion. I liked it. I really, really like it.
Let me qualify ... ...good against evil struggle between Harry and Voldemort, it's about the wider community of wizards, and the way the fight against evil affects different people in different ways, and the sacrifices they make, not just a thirteen year old wizard. That's probably why I love the POA so much, by the end of the second film I was bored by Harry solving it all by himself, I like the fact he relies on others to help him!
And there was an excellent cast. ...

...our romantic entertainment? Thunderbirds and Harry Potter 3. Ho hum. Proves we’re just kids at heart, I guess.
While Thunderbirds was good (no category on Ciao yet, tut tut), Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban excelled. To hubby and me, this was the best of the three Harry Potter films so far. We both loved it and sat enthralled. An increasingly insistent cry from the bladder meant I had to miss a bit, but – thanks to an Athens-like gold medal ... ...transfixed and once again, a Harry Potter film whizzed by in what felt like half the time.
I have read the first three HP books, so I did have an idea of how the film was going to pan out, but I prefer the films to the books in this instance. Whereas I doubt I will bother reading HP4 and beyond, I will definitely be watching the movie versions. To me, the stories come alive in the cinema. I find J. K. Rowling’s novels somewhat lacking.
So once ...

A slight aside before I start.

Harry returns to Hogwarts amid panic in the wizarding world as Sirius Black a murderer known to be a supporter of You Know Who, has escaped from Azkaban prison and so the school is being guarded by the prison guards called Dementors - rather nasty and unmerciful creatures - to protect Harry from him. But why should he want to reach Harry and what other secrets will be revealed along the way? I just hoped that Cuaron would ...

...think this is the best Harry Potter film yet, and some who seem really disappointed with it as an adaptation of the book. Recently my own opinion has swayed, leading me finally to write this review.
I saw the film way back when it came out (I believe it was June 2004) with almost impossibly high expectations. As a complete and utter Harry Potter fan, and this being the first of the books that I'd read.... the one that started it all for me, the ... ...single kiss.
This year Harry is battling on with his magic classes to fight worse foes, coming to terms with his parents past and learning more about himself in the process. ...the third instalment in the Harry Potter film series, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. A new director, new actors and growing children have given the film industry much to talk about. ...few as possible though.
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban is the much-awaited film of JK Rowling’s third Harry Potter (HP) book. Released on 31 May, just in time for half term across most of the UK, it’s PG rated due to some scary scenes and (very) mild language, and runs for just over 2 hours.

Too much is being glossed over rather than given its full weight, which makes things unclear. To my mind, it’s either worth ignoring something completely, or giving it its due.
In fact, my main gripe with this film is that there is just so much in the book that is never mentioned in the film – and some of that is information ...

...too old for kids movies. Harry Potter in particular.
The books are a different kettle of onions, because they require a certain amount of interaction between the writer’s and your own imagination. When a vision of something you had pictured one way turns out to be completely at odds with your perception, disappointment sets in fast. As I'm sure you know.
Which brings me to the latest in the Harry Potter series.
***THE PLOT***
Harry is being picked ... ...design to create the interest. Harry just isn’t enough of anything to be a hero – he just sort of stumbles through the plot as in the other stories, discovering things through coincidence or dumb luck.
The fact that it requires little effort his part to unravel mysteries or defeat foes hardly endears him to me – plus he seems to be getting a mite cocky. This may set things up for future instalments, but here it’s just tiresome. He’s a lead character ...

Director Chris Columbus, who was responsible for the first two adaptations, has stepped down for this one, wanting to spend more time with his family, and Alfonso Cuaron has stepped in to fill his shoes. ...we come to the latest Harry Potter film.
