...very biased because I love Harry Potter, I've read all the books, bought the t-shirt and eaten the chocolate frogs. And just recently I watched the film.
First of all the film WAS good. Robbie Coltrane was fantastic as Hagrid, Alan Wickman was an excellant baddie as usual and the location of Hogwarts (harry's school) was spot on. The plot was ok but a lot was missed out of the book for good and worse. There was some annoying wastes of film time, with a shot of Harry and his owl for no apparent reason. Someone explain this please.
It was a long film your child might not be able to sit through it. It was ...

A brief introduction for those unfamiliar with the story:
Imagine you are a ten year old orphan, who has had an unhappy upbringing with your reluctant aunt, uncle and cousin who treat you like dirt. On your eleventh birthday you are visited by a giant who informs you that you are awizard, and a famous one at that. In a short space of time your life is transformed ... ...most famous dark wizard of all, you escape to Hogwarts school where you try your best to learn the arts of magic. But, this is no ordinary school experience, as you soon discover that your parents' nemesis is now after you....
For those who have read the book:

Yeah I know there are bits missing from the title but it's a bit like the film - there is something not quite there. Don't ask me what, I can't quite put my finger on it.
The film is good, is true to the book, directed well, acted well and with good special effects and even the score isn't too bad. Robbie Coltrane I think is the star as he puts in a pretty masterful performance I think of the half giant - Hagrid. I didn't actually think he was the best actor to play him but after this showing, he should be guaranteed the next 6 films in the series! The acting overall, in fact, from the child 'stars' (normally child and star should be seperated by ...

...little for the legacy of Harry Potter; i can't understand why they chose to use Chris Columbus rather than Steven Spielberg. It could have been so good, if you want to learn about Harry Potters adventures i would stick to the books, and allow your imagination to wander through hogwarts and all. After reading each of the Harry Potter books and thoroughly enjoying each one I have been eagerly looking forward to the new Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone even more than my eleven year old daughter. Everybody knows the tale of the famous wizard Harry Potter, who on his eleventh birthday, is told that he is an extraordinary wizard and is to be whisked away to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
