Potter Poo-Poo

Advantages: Follows the film closely
Disadvantages: Child actors aren't good enough

...what I'm talking about. It's Harry Potter and The Philosopher's Stone - here in its tragically inevitable movie form after the phenomenally popular, multi-million selling, award-winning, best-selling series of books by British author Jo Rowling made Harry Potter a household name. This is the film that is predicted to be the highest grossing of all time (and judging from it's first week - $92m in the US) - it looks likely). The film that has the same ...
...'The Muppets'. So why is Harry Potter so popular? Why, if you'll excuse my surrendering to corporate cheesiness, is Harry Potter so magical? (Pause for vomit.) If you don't know the story by now, then you've either masterly avoided the entire Potter hysteria, or you really ought to get out more. The first in the series of a planned seven books (and accompanying movies), The Philosopher's Stone follows Harry Potter (well duh), an orphan who is as ...

NOT Potty About Harry

Advantages: The Quidditch matchis great, passes the time
Disadvantages: some bad performances, ropey effects, too long

...go see LoTR again so Harry Potter it was. I can’t exactly remember the moment when I joined the Harry Potter backlash although it was before any notion of a film was mentioned. By all rights I should be on more friendly towards the boy, both of us having been gestated and giving birth to in Gods Own city, Edinburgh (admittedly HP was conceived on a train in England somewhere. My parents have never discussed with me the circumstances of my ...
...a comfy suburban semi, put Harry through a life of almost Victorian-style servitude. He has to sleep under the stairs, and wait on the every need of his relatives. His relatives are truly appalling people, like characters dragged from a Roald Dahl book, full of bitter, bilious disdain for poor old Harry. However Harry is rescued from this life on his 11th birthday as you see, Harry is actually a great wizard ( I guess you probably knew that). His ...

...would go and see the Harry Potter movie (Yes that is what this op is about..eventually!!), being ardent fans of the be-spectacled young magician and co, we had just not got around to booking tickets etc. Late on Saturday evening I just happened to mention it to hubby again and before I knew it I was on the ‘phone with his credit card clutched in my mitts..nyyhahahahah!! ...Imagine going to see Harry Potter with your 14year old son, putting your credit card in to get your tickets and receiving three seats for the late night showing of ‘Emanuelle does it again’, or worse!! So I was extremely relieved to be given the option to speak to an operator. This particularly nice one was called Ian and came from Inverness, lovely accent, but hadn’t a clue where the cinema we wanted to go to was in relation to ...

CHILDREN NOT REQUIRED

Advantages: Good film worth watching
Disadvantages: slow to start

Harry Potter and the Philosophers stone, is the film, which is the talk of the world right now! In the interests of research for my opinion, I thought I’d better check out this much talked about film and let you know what I thought! I duly purchased my ticket (along with my wife’s), and when the time came we ventured into the cinema (Warner village in Cambridge). Expecting to be the ONLY grown ups without children, we opted for our usual ...

Harry’s first ‘magical’ trick is described by Julia Walters, and involves running and a brick wall, in order to find platform 9 ¾. Harry and his two friends: Hermione Granger (Emma Watson) and Ron Weasley, (Rupert Grint) are all placed in the same ‘house’ at Hogwarts, and soon become ...

...I have only read one Harry Potter book, which luckily is the first one in the series 'The philosophers stone' so I was already introduced to the world of Harry Potter briefly. ...Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter. Both adapted from books but oh so different. Lord of the Rings, a timeless classic suitable for all ages and beautifully adapted for the big screen. The Magic of Harry on film

Advantages: This is a magical film enjoyed by us all
Disadvantages: It is not as good as the book

Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone came out in the cinema with much hype and having a house full of Harry Potter fans we just had to go and see it. When Christmas was over and the children were looking for a bit of entertainment I took them to the cinema to see the film they had been waiting for. It was with some trepidation that I went to see Harry Potter. I had read the book, I knew the story and I had my own picture of the story in my head. ...
...for wizards and witches. Harry is an orphan his parents having been killed by the evil Voldemort. Harry has been looked after by his aunt and uncle who are ‘muggles’ that is non-magic people. Aunt and Uncle are not too pleased about this but magic wins over. The letters arrive by ...

Believe the Hype. Harry Potter is Great

Advantages: Great Film, Cast and Effects
Disadvantages: Running Time maybe a bit long for some

...saw a advance preview of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone yesterday. I went along with my girlfriend and her young cousins who were all Harry Potter mad. I myself have never read any of the books but obviously with all the publicity surrounding the books and the hype of the film, I wouldnt pass the chance of seeing it on the big screen. Was it any good I hear you ask straight away. Well the short answer is yes its great! But before I say ...
...Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone is the first book, of four so far, written by J.K. Rowling about a boy called er, Harry Potter. The book was published in 1997 and since then, the adventures of Harry Potter have become a worldwide success selling 110 million copies in more than 47 languages! This film is based on the first book, and since I never read it before, I can safely say I had an unbiased, unexpected frame of mind whilst watching ...

HOORAH FOR HARRY BUT YOU WERE DULL

Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone ********************************* Well I’m back again, where have I been, well nowhere in particular, just got wrapped up in a whirlwind and spat back out again, life has been hectic to say the least. However I have managed to fit in my regular cinema trips and I though it would be nice to share my thoughts on the much-hyped Harry Potter. Well here is the bumf that people like to read about: - MPAA ...
...The Plot ******* Sweet lil Harry Potter has a hard life, his parents died as a child and he is brought up by his gruesome Uncle Vernon and the intolerably annoying Aunt Petunia. They treat him like dirt and make him sleep in the cupboard under the stairs, awww poor Harry! His grotesquely spoilt fat cousin Dudley constantly picks on him and makes his life even more miserable than it already is. But in true fairy tale style, Harry’s luck changes ...

Magical Movie Moments

Advantages: Based on a great book, nice acting
Disadvantages: Some parts missed from the book

...that is just pure magic. Harry Potter is one such movie and it comes as no surprise that the experience oozes pure pleasure in every celluloid moment. (Does it sound like I like this film yet, I wonder?) For those still not in the know about Harry Potter, the story goes something like this; as a baby, an orphan son of a wizard and witch is left on the doorstep of a regular family. It isn’t until his 11th birthday that Harry Potter suddenly ...

It just isn't long enough

Advantages: A wonderful, magical story; Fabulous characters brought to life by great actors; Special effects, but not too much to detract from the story; The Quidditch match; The costumes and breathtaking scenary
Disadvantages: If I have to say anything it was that it wasn't long enough. Hard to believe you were sat there for two and a half hours.

I did wonder about Harry Potter and the Philospoher's Stone and how it would translate into the world of film, and I did worry about it just a little, because I am a huge fan of the Harry Potter books and so are my children. I wondered because there was a lot of hype surrounding this film, and often once the hype machine has rolled into town and people have forked out their hard earned cash, they often realise they have been short changed and the ...
...So was Harry Potter worth all the hype, the discussions and quite frankly, was he worth the wait? The answer is one almightly loud...... HELL YES!!!!! Over the past couple of months we have heard how this movie was originally almost 4 hours long and that it had to chopped down to two and a half hours so that children would sit through it, and even then critics were saying it was too long. Well to that I say only this..... my eight year old son is ...

Potter starts off on the big screen with a BANG!!

Advantages: Great adaptation, cast and special effects
Disadvantages: A little wooden acting, disappointing special features

...K Rowling started writing the Harry Potter books, she could have no idea of the worldwide phenomenon they would become. And, when Christopher Columbus was revealed as the director of the first book's film, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, many were just hoping and praying that they would get a true reflection of the book and not some artist licence ruining what is a fabulous story. The Plot Harry Potter is an ordinary boy living with his ...
...first of many extraordinary characters Harry is to meet. Once at the school, Harry learns it is a school of magic rather than a traditional school like you or I are used to. And it turns out that there is more to him than meets the eye. He is the one that got away from the Dark Lord Voldemort, some say the powerful and evil wizard there ever was. Voldemort has been destroyed, never to return again, but eerie goings on at the school, and talk of ...
