Harry Potter - The Movie

Advantages: good characters, good computer effects
Disadvantages: they cut some of the story

The movie of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone is based on the book. It is shortened a lot, because it would take four-and-a-half hours otherwise, but they shortened it to two hours. They still leave the main parts in. Daniel Radcliffe played Harry, Emma Watson played Hermione and Rupert Grint played Ron. I think Rupert was the best because he’s really good at making expressions on his face that make you quickly know what he’s ...
...then read the book because if you do it the other way round, you will know what’s going to happen next and it won’t be a surprise! The film is excellent. I don’t know a person who wouldn’t like it. Even my Mum and Dad liked it. If you haven’t watched the film yet, then quickly book tickets or go and see Lord of the Rings, which is a bit similar. Final mark = 9 out of 10. ...

I've been won over

Advantages: Actors to play the characters were brilliant
Disadvantages: Missed bits out

When Harry Potter mania hit Britain I wondered what all the fuss was about and vowed I wouldn't be reading the books let alone going to see the film! Well now however long on I have read all four books and been to see the film, you could say I'm well and truly hooked. I wanted to make sure I'd read the book before I went to see the film and I'm glad now that I did, because although the film is amazing they do tend to leap from situation to situation. ...
...though because the book is so full of details that if the film had it all it would be even longer than it already is. I think the characters in the film were chosen very well, although out of them all I think Professor Snape best fitted the image I had in my head. The storyline sticks to the book perfectly (apart from as I mentioned above) and I have to say the best part for me was the chess game, it was brilliant. I even took my fiance along who ...

The First Harry Potter Film

Advantages: Wonderful story, great actors,
Disadvantages: misses a few bits

...instant rapport and passion for Harry and friends to get one over on the awful Malfoy. I liked the effects used and the costumes, everything in the film really sets the atmosphere. The dim lighting as they await the sorting ceremony, the cosy Gryffindor common room, that just feels like home. It has all been done brilliantly. The only thing, as with any book to film transistion, is that some characters and bits are left out. So if you haven't already, ...
...still a wonderful film and it is just lovely to loose yourself in it. I also loved the soundtrack, it just sounds magical. The DVD itself comes with some little games for children, like the wall scence in Diagon Alley where they try to open it. There are also cast interviews too. ...

A Magical Experience

Advantages: Great special effects and storyline stays true to the book.
Disadvantages: Only computers with a DVD-ROM drive can run the second DVD.

I first saw Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone at one of the local theatres. That is still the best way to see it in my opinion, but the DVD is a close second. Don't hold your breath for the added scenes. I actually had to watch it several times to find them. They're nothing dramatic, just small cuts that were made in the original version. This is one of those movies that I can watch over and over again, although I probably know the dialogue by ...
...repeating. Of course, if they're Harry Potter fans, they probably won't repeat anything Malfoy says anyway. This is a movie that doesn't drag, there's just enough action in even the quiet scenes to keep it moving along. It's got those "adult" moments when the humor misses the kids, but not the parents or the grandparents which give it a whole new flavor. The wide-ranging appeal of this movie is sure to make it a classic in the fantasy genre. ...

Potty about Potter

Advantages: Superb cast and set
Disadvantages: None

...avoid all the hype about Harry Potter during it's early days (which I think is a miracle due to all the hype surrounding the young wizzard). Yet, my parents did not and read the books (yes my parents - older people like him to), and eventually read them and got won over by the whole hogwarts/harry experience. I was lucky as when they anounced advance preview showings of the movie I got hold of 6 tickets to the midnight showing on the Saturday/Sunday ...
...100% faithful to the book and young Daniel Radcliffe is a marvolous actor and should receive many rewards for his performance as the young wizzard in training. The whole cast was chosen carefully and they did the best job possible and the set looked the most authentic in everyway and you could tell that they had spent the money well. Anyone planning not to see the film should reconsidder as it is amazing. ...

Stick to the damn book next time

Advantages: Great special effects
Disadvantages: Misses out too much of the book

This movie has two sides to it. One on side are the people who have not read the book, and must have been amazed by the special effects and storyline. The other side is the one I am on. I read the book, and was excited about the movie. It turned out to be a slight disapointment. Large chunks of the book were missed out and some of the main parts of the book were given just slight viewing time on film. I know that child actors are usually turned into ...
...up their lost dreams of glory, but I did not know they are that bad! However, not all of it is bad. They use great sets, and it is well directed. I know that if they put in every detail of the book, the movie would be around the 5 hour mark (I'm slightly worried about the goblet of fire, which as about 4 times as long!). Also on the good side is theacting by the adults. Alan Rickman I think played Severus Snape, and he did amazingly well. The movie ...

This was a great film and it starts the trilogy off extremly well, it just jumps in with excitment, fun and really tells you that there is a lot more in store for the veiwers in the next films even if you have not read the books you still get the nearly all the information and the things that are missed are not tha important and you can still really understand the film. ...I am a fan of Harry Potter books so forgive me if some of my opinions are little biased or if my expectations are too high. Was the screen just too big?

Advantages: Good books with an engaging story.
Disadvantages: Film loses a lot of the charm and minor parts of the books that make them good.

Harry Potter the best selling books from the talented author JK Rowling who manages to appeal to all ages all over the world. Plus box office smashes with the films. However, I know there is an ongoing debate about whether books should be made into films and I know with this one I couldn't help but notice everything they left out so here is a thought for you all. I think Harry Potter would have been better as a sunday afternoon style television series, ...

Magic goes to school

Advantages: Faithful to the book
Disadvantages: Too long for impatient children

Who would have thought that the combination of school story and magic would go down so well with adults and children? This movie is pretty faithful to JKR's novel. You don't need to read the book to enjoy the film, and reading the book afterwards will be rewarding too. As passionate advocate of getting children back to books, this film will inspire old and young alike to pick up the novels. The story (who doesn't know this by now?) of a young orphaned ...
