Shhh it's a secret!

Advantages: better than the first film and enjoyable
Disadvantages: it could have been much better

...up to the release of Harry Potter and The Order of the Phoenix DVD next month I have decided to review the previous films in the series. So this is number two in my series of reviews - Harry Potter and The Chamber of Secrets (2002). As I sat waiting for the second instalment of the Harry Potter film franchise to start, I kept thinking "Please be better than the first film" (I have a feeling my husband was thinking this too!). Yes I had enjoyed the ...
...In this film we see Harry and his friends return to Hogwarts for their second year where another plot is brewing to bring the evil lord Voldemort back to his former power. But this plot not only endangers Harry but all the pupils at Hogwarts. However on this occasion my apprehension was slightly less justified as I shall explain. From the very opening of the film you know this film is going down a darker path. The familiar orchestrated theme returns ...

...to see the most recent Harry Potter film at the cinema, we thought we would refresh our minds in terms of the second film as it seemed so long since we had seen it. 'Chamber Of Secrets' is the second film in the Harry Potter series and it is based on the book of the same name, although as with most films it is not an exact replica of the story in the book as time constraints mean that this is not possible. I will say straight off that if you want ...

Emma Watson is excellent as the fiesty Hermione Grainger, and completing the trio is Rupert Grint as Harry's best friend Ron Weasley. They are joined by Richard Harris (Dumbledore), Alan Rickman (Prof Snape) and Robbie Coltrane (Hagrid), although there are some new cast members this time round, and the most entertaining has to be Kenneth ...

...informed me that the new Harry Potter film, "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets", was finally out at the cinema. A phone call from my dad while I was at uni told me that I was to take my sister and two youngest brothers to see it when I returned, but sadly I couldn't wait, and traipsed down to the cinema in Cambridge with my friends a few days after it opened. When seeing it for the second time, this time with a 7 year old, an 11 year old and ...

This film is not for arachnophobes: frequently throughout the film we are treated to glimpses of spiders scuttling out of the building, and there is one scene with giant spiders, which terrified some of the smaller children in the cinema. Not my little sister though - she's tougher than that! Dislike of snakes is another reason to stay away, especially with the size of the snake (well, ...

...on from the previous year's Harry Potter and The Philosopher's Stone, The Chamber of Secrets (CoS hereafter) has a lot to live up to. While the first film may have left many unimpressed, to others it was a magical adventure that managed to faithfully stick to JK Rowling's original novel. Can a second bite of the cherry ever manage to match up to the first? Apologies in advance but I'll be making comparisons between the two and no doubt be leaving ...

There's a catch-22 to Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. If you haven't read the book you won't have the faintest clue what's going on, if you have you'll be annoyed at how much is cut out. That said, the makers do a good job of introducing all the major characters quickly and smoothly. If you've read all the books backwards you won't want to sit through a lengthy exposition, nor do you want to be thrown in cold if you're unfamiliar with the ...

...is a big mistake. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets after the mess of the first movie had a lot to prove. A task that was going to made still more difficult by the fact that it’s an adaptation of the weakest of the series to date. I had read every book before I even knew there was going to be a film, and although I anticipte every Harry Potter film greatly, it is the books which remain all important. One of the most vital elements of the films therefore, in my eyes at least, is how faithfully they reproduce the world of the ...
