Advantages: better than the first film and enjoyable Disadvantages: it could have been much better
...up to the release of Harry Potter and The Order of the Phoenix DVD next month I have decided to review the previous films in the series. So this is number two in my series of reviews - Harry Potter and The Chamber of Secrets (2002).
As I sat waiting for the second instalment of the Harry Potter film franchise to start, I kept thinking "Please be better than the first film" (I have a feeling my husband was thinking this too!). Yes I had enjoyed ...

Advantages: Excellent selection of extras compliment the film Disadvantages: A lot is too old for the younger HP fan
...to see the most recent Harry Potter film at the cinema, we thought we would refresh our minds in terms of the second film as it seemed so long since we had seen it. 'Chamber Of Secrets' is the second film in the Harry Potter series and it is based on the book of the same name, although as with most films it is not an exact replica of the story in the book as time constraints mean that this is not possible. I will say straight off that if you want ...

...informed me that the new Harry Potter film, "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets", was finally out at the cinema. A phone call from my dad while I was at uni told me that I was to take my sister and two youngest brothers to see it when I returned, but sadly I couldn't wait, and traipsed down to the cinema in Cambridge with my friends a few days after it opened.
When seeing it for the second time, this time with a 7 year old, an 11 year old ...

...a house elf called Dobi, Harry Potter returns to Hogwarts school of witchcraft and wizardry to study year 2 of 'how to be a wizard'. The school resonates to the usual comings and goings, new pupils and staff, and all the usual events that typify your average wizards school. But something's afoot and when strange messages start appearing on walls foretelling of the opening of something called 'the Chamber of Secrets', the staff are a little too concerned. ...

Advantages: Nearly everything Disadvantages: Never as good as the book
...have made the film of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets even half as good as J K Rowling's second book in the HP series. You see that's the ultimate power of the written word, it can spark the imagination like no movie can ever manage. Even in these days when the power of the computer is awesome and you can generate all manner of marvels and make real the most amazing of dreams on the screen, there's nothing quite as wonderful as the imagination.

Last year, three of my children were huge Harry Potter fans and the other three of us knew little about it. The first film converted us and even I had read some of the books by now, with The Chamber of Secrets being my favourite, ...

Advantages: Great acting and special effects Disadvantages: The plot's a little garbled
There's a catch-22 to Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. If you haven't read the book you won't have the faintest clue what's going on, if you have you'll be annoyed at how much is cut out.
That said, the makers do a good job of introducing all the major characters quickly and smoothly. If you've read all the books backwards you won't want to sit through a lengthy exposition, nor do you want to be thrown in cold if you're unfamiliar with ...

Advantages: A faithful adaption of Rowling's delightful novel, Far superior to the original movie Disadvantages: Lengthy running time, odd suspect performance
...is a big mistake. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets after the mess of the first movie had a lot to prove. A task that was going to made still more difficult by the fact that it’s an adaptation of the weakest of the series to date. The book lacked the charm of the original and rising sense of darkness of the subsequent instalments. With the same director at the helm (Chris Columbus) and no major cast alterations, the scene was all set for another ...

...preview screenings of the latest Harry Potter movie. Now I have to say when I went to saw this movie I was not looking forward to it as the previous Harry movie left me untouched on any level being to me as the movie felt like a it was going by the numbers and I could not engage with it on any emotional level at all. If I had written an op on it it would have gotten a three for its prettiness and Alan Rickman as Snape. So as you can understand seeing ...

...upon which I would see Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.
My love for the Harry Potter films undoubtedly stems from my love of the book series. I had read every book before I even knew there was going to be a film, and although I anticipte every Harry Potter film greatly, it is the books which remain all important. One of the most vital elements of the films therefore, in my eyes at least, is how faithfully they reproduce the world of the ...

...anticipated films of the year, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets probably needs no introduction, but for the sake of completeness, it's the second in the series of planned films based on J.K. Rowling's massively popular Harry Potter books. The first film, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, released last year, is the second most successful film of all time (after Titanic), taking £620m at the world box office.

Advantages: A roller coaster ride Disadvantages: The second half is a little slower and grinds to a halt
...But, it IS a Harry Potter film about the kids, not the adults, so that can be forgiven.
As for the trio, Harry, Ron and Hermione, they did extremely well. Dan Radcliffe (Harry) and Emma Watson (Hermione)'s stage-school style has come on a long way since the first film and is much more natural. Rupert Grint (Ron)'s melodramatic style was as before, over the top and "in your face" but nonetheless totally enjoyable.
The film covers Harry's second ...
