...it's about a cannibal called Hannibal Lecter, who had recently escaped from prison and is now in hiding.
A huge reward is offered for his location, and in exchange for this reward, Hannibal's fingerprint is required as evidence. But Hannibal is very clever and doesn't just go round placing his greasy fingers on everything, he wears gloves. He's not that stupid. He's a professional. :)
Several attempts are made to capture Hannibal, but without success, ... ...to get someone to capture Hannibal and is planning a big fat revenge session which involves Hannibal getting eaten by several starved pigs. Blah blah, the films goes on. I shouldn't really say anymore because I don't want to reveal too much for you all. But, what I will say is, if you enjoy seeing people eating their own brains and lots of human insides on the outside, then this is the film for you.

...by Anthony Hopkins as Dr Hannibal Lecter, then captive soon to be escapee Cannibal serial killer, and Clarice Starling, new FBI agent played by Jodie Foster who was assigned to help solve some serial murders, with Lecters help of course, I was very much in awe of the possible sequel. Hannibal is a well written, brilliantly acted and very good value in the thriller stakes.
I came late to Silence, only seeing it on video at the insistance of my partner who couldn't believe that I'd missed it. So maybe the memory is more fresh with me. Hannibal is every bit as good a film as Silence but, of course, we all know the plot now. Maybe that's why some people believe that it's rubbish by comparison.

...read most of the book hannibal before watching the film, I am sad to say I was highly disappointed with the film.
The trouble with the picture, is that silence of the lambs was just so good a film, which worked on many levels, it was equally horrific, suspenseful and at some points overtly sexual especially the chemistry between lector and starling. Hannibal seems to try and take the trilogy into a new direction involving the deep rooted respect ... ...factor the hopkins produced in silence. if silence hadnt existed, this would be a pretty good film. As it is Ridley Scott has done an amicable job, with a script which seems to have been more than deliberately toned down, possibly more to lure hopkins back in to the role, than to satisfy silence fans. Julliane Moore is a good actress, but it is impossible to look at her without thinking, you are not Jodie Foster, you shouldnt be there. Hopkins never ...

Advantages: Sticks as close to the book as can be expected Disadvantages: Loss of some sub characters
Hannibal the film does as much in 2 hours as can be expected. Scripted more for the mainstream than SOTL possibly was, the film drops a few of the characters from the book to keep things simpler and changes the plot and sequence of events slightly.
Whilst I won't compare too much to Silence of the lambs, Hannibal is less dark and barring the odd few moments, less tense but with moments of shocking gore.
The film portrays Hannibal the book, quite ... ...or what happens afterwards.
I won't elaborate too much more on the plot as this film is worth seeing and the book worth reading. Perhaps because I knew what was going to happen, I wasn't as shocked as some people sat close to me were but Hannibal is great! ...

...film ie the bit where Hannibal says "I'm giving very serious thought to eating your wife" - This was not followed through - Why not ?? You only saw the 'Wife' twice in the whole film and both times were before Hannibal made this comment !! I found that there was not any "real" storyline to this film and it had so much potential.
On a positive note, there was a fair amount of gore in the film so those of you that are looking for gore, you WILL find ...

Advantages: Great performance by Anthony Hopkins, good storyline and setting Disadvantages: FBI could have been portrayed more realistically
...starts seven years after Dr. Hannibal Lecter’s (Sir Anthony Hopkins) escape from FBI custody. It has been seven years since FBI agent Clarice Starling (played by Julianne Moore) interviewed Dr. Lecter, and she has since progressed on a successful career of her own. Dr. Lecter retreated to a quiet, semi-normal life in Italy, pursuing his own interests in the world of art. But Starling has never forgotten her encounters with the doctor. In this ... ...outrageously wealthy businessman who, in his youth, was horribly disfigured. Now in his old age, he is obsessed with obtaining his revenge against Dr. Lecter and craftily uses Clarice Starling as the bait to draw Dr. Lecter out of hiding. What made this movie enjoyable for me is that the audience was able to see some of the quality traits that Dr. Lecter possessed that make him an almost likable anti-hero; his is refined, extremely intelligent, witty, ...

...with his look and sound. Hannibal is a strange but educated character who in some cases is rather funny. He sure does know how to kill and cut people. The part where he cuts an FBI agents head of is both sick and funny. The sickest bit of the film is seeing the bloke who hannibal cut up in silence of the lambs.
The film is set in some really nice locations such as rome and in two lovely mansions. The female FBI agent who some what helps hannibal ...

...quite excited about seeing Mr. Hannibal Lecture in action once again. The film begins with a action-packed reminder of our leading character, Clarise Starling. Quite important considering that our actress has changed. We see that her life, and career, is in turmoil, after a couple of fudged FBI operations. In her desperation, her thoughts wander to the escaped cannibal - and here the story really begins.
At the end of the last film, we see that ... ...he is hiding is Florence, his beloved retreat whilst in prison. So, predictably, Clarise launches all her efforts into catching the man-eater in order to save her career. I'll leave the rest ...

Advantages: Special effects Disadvantages: Replacement of Jodie Foster
I found Hannibal a good follow up to silence of the lambs, though like most follow ups it was not as good as the original. I think it's biggest letdown was the replacement of Jodie Foster with Julianne Moore. Julianne Moore played the part very convincingly and gave strength to the character of Agent Clarice Starling, but did not quite pull off the character as portrayed by Jodie Foster.
The plot did lack some of the suspense of the original, I ... ...plot instead of being surprised / shocked. It was somewhat predictable. The film did not seem to build up momentum but instead ambled along at a steady pace.
The blood and gore of the film seemed more designed to shock it's audience than to be an essential part of the plot, particulary the revenge he took on Paul Krendler (Ray Liotta) for his supposeded betrayal of Clarice. The idea of a romantic interest between the principal players, although ...

...seen Silence of the Lambs, Hannibal is a 'must see' The plot is not as gripping as Silence of the Lambs but the acting of Sir Anthony Hopkins was once again first rate and certainly worthy of an Ocsar nomination.

Hannibal has to be rated among one of the best films and egarly anticipated films to be released for several years. ...the fuss was about. When Hannibal arrived on the big screen I felt I should see this sequel.
It was a real let down. The plot is very thin and the acting, except for Sir Anthony Hopkins is certainly not good.

The plot does run fairly close to the story in the book but what could have been a marvellous film was turned into a second rate 'B' Movie type of thing. Poor acting and poor direction were the least of the problems. The whole thing just didn't work. It wasn't really a horror film because what should have been horrific just came across as disgusting and I personally found bits of made my stomach churn. You couldn't ...

Advantages: plenty of suspense and good story Disadvantages: gory and bloody.
Hannibal is an 18 or over film and you can see why when you watch it. Not for those who are faint hearted. It stars Sir Anthony Hopkins, Giancarlo Gianni, Gary Oldman and Julianne Moore.
Hannibal begins after Dr. Hannibal Lecter (Sir. Anthony Hopkins) escaped from the asylum in Baltimore to Florence, Italy where he has become the one of the curators of the Palazzo Vecchio and has learned to stop eating human flesh all the time. But his cover is ... ...Lecter over, for reward money, to his old patient, Mason Verger (Gary Oldman). Mason is a person more twisted and evil than the doctor, because Dr. Lecter made him cut his own face off with a piece of glass and feed it to his dogs. It also caused him to be paralyzed and be on a respirator, which furthered his anger even more. But FBI agent Clarice Starling (Julianne Moore) finds out about Mason's evil plot to feed Dr. Lecter to a bunch of man-eating ...

Advantages: Continuation of Story Disadvantages: lacks Creativity
I was not impressed with this movie, I saw it last night and from the reaction of the audience it runs a bit slow for 2 hours 10 mins and does not deliver. The effects are crude and results in around 4 scenes of violence culminating in one final gory scene at the end of the movie. Those squemish should close their eyes and put a pillow over their head. One women at the back of the cinema at Staples corner did not and threw up. Probably on her boyfriend ... ...was a bad scene that will probably please horror fans. Anyone who has seen scilence of the lambs will not think that this sequel is as inventive or as creative as the first. I would describe this as just a continuation of the story and nothing more setting itself up for the third part.
Give it a miss ...
