Advantages: performances are pure brilliance, a cult film. Disadvantages: not as good as the first, but could it really have been?
Hannibal has been one of the most eagarly awaited films of all time and the hype surrounding the flick has been enourmous. Is it as good as the first? Should i go and watch it? These thoughts ran through my mind during the week before it's opening, but i can now say, although my stomach might not think so, that i made the right decision in going.
Hannibal is different in so many ways to it's predecessor. The most blindingly obvious one is of boogie ... ...on the case of Dr. Hannibal Lecter (now on the FBI's 10 most wanted). During the opening scenes we also get the plesure of meeting Mason Verger, one of Lecters victims who managed to survive, who now has half a face for his troubles. Gary Oldman is truely unrecognisable under all the make-up and plays Verger with a certain panache that turns him into the villian of the film. Verger is hell bent on revenge and has some man-eating boars ready for their ...

Advantages: Good film which held my interest Disadvantages: Not as good as Silence of the Lambs
We went to see Hannibal yesterday and quite frankly I can’t see what all the fuss is about. I had read reviews about it being excessively gory, but I didn’t find it so.
The film is the sequel to the excellent Silence of the Lambs and again stars Anthony Hopkins as Hannibal Lecter. The action has moved on seven years since the original film.
Julianne Moore plays agent Clarice Starling, the part taken by Jodie Foster in the original film, ... ...good idea when dealing with Hannibal Lecter!
Lecter is taken to Verger’s mansion for torture and ultimate death but he escapes with Clarice’s help, who wants him to give himself up to the police with her protection. I won’t go into the final part of the story here as it would spoil the ending although it doesn’t really come as a surprise. There was one gory part towards the end where Lecter has sliced the top off a man’s ...

Advantages: Funny but sick film with lots of suspense. Disadvantages: Predictable in places. May be too gory for the squemish in places.
You’ve heard bad reviews, you’ve heard good reviews. So how do you decide whether to see this film? Hopefully this review will help as below I shall outline ‘Who should go and see this’ and ‘What type of film is this?’, without giving the story away or the best gory parts. I went along with no expectations – not even knowing what the film was about until I was on the way to see it. We had some free tickets and this was the only film starting when we arrived so in we went. Although I had watched Silence of the Lambs I had been young at the time and had not taken much interest in it and therefore couldn’t remember the story. Yet I understood this film, proving you do ...

Advantages: scares the wits out of you Disadvantages: bit too gruesome for some
Hannibal Lecter is tanned, rested and ready. And a bit dull and dowdy compared to our last encounter with him.Dare we wax crudely metaphoric and say that "Hannibal" lacks the bite of its 1991 predecessor, "The Silence of the Lambs"?
Under Ridley Scott's lush, showy direction, it's still a decent enough flick, as grisly thrillers go. But this time, Anthony Hopkins' serial killer extraordinaire comes across as something of a milquetoast, gumming his ... ...out, we get a dapper Hannibal Lecter whose menace comes more from the memory of how chilling he was in the previous film than from anything he does this time.
Lecter does do plenty of slicing and dicing in "Hannibal," and very, very gruesomely in the film's closing moments.
But his violence is mostly reaction to dastardly deeds others try to do to him. He appears at his most dangerous in a handful of flashbacks depicting past atrocities.
And his ...

Advantages: Anthony Hopkins. End scene. Ermmm....it's shot very prettily Disadvantages: boring middle part, gore is over hyped(or is that a good thing) horror just isn't there
I went to see this film expecting little. Although a great fan of its prequel, I had already read the reviews, and they didn't seem promising. It also seemed an impossible task to replace Jodie Foster as Agent Clarice Starling, but replace her they did, with Julie Anne Moore, or rather, they shoe horned her into the part.
The opening credits for the film were far from promising. Uncomfortable, sketching imaging flashes by the audience trying to ... ...appears across our screen in red, declaring 'Hannibal'. About the first half an hour of the film is 'good'. You get your exciting gun battle in the street, Starling's fall from grace(yes I know that line has been used a thousand times before)...and if I'm right, you get the introduction of the hideously over dressed fourth victim of Dr. Lecter, who apparently fed his face to the dogs. Mmmm. Lovely. Then, for the next oooh, say hour of the film, we ...

Advantages: wit, excellent black comedy Disadvantages: not along the same lines as Silence of the Lambs, so expectaion can spoil things
...Antony Hopkins returns as Hannibal 'The Cannibal' Lector, but Clarice Starling is played by the little known Julianne Moore, rather than Jodie Foster. Having greatly admired Fosters performance in Silence of the Lambs, i went into Hannibal expecting to be disappointed by this usurper. But in reality, as the film progresses, you are surprised by how much you accept her as Starling. The fact that 10 years have elapsed just means we accept Moore as ... ...produces the film magnificiently, with the setting, and camera work adding to the films overall appeal.
I wont go into many details of the story, for those (few) who havent read the book. And, even for those who have, since my friends kindly inform me that the film differs quite considerably from the book-with the elimination of certain characters, but especially the ending.
Basically, 10 years have elapsed, and Dr Lector is living quitely in Florence. ...

Advantages: Good directing, like the city scenes Disadvantages: Dubious plot, could be too gory for some
...such a notorious character as Hannibal Lecter could possibly escape from prison, and not only that, he could be living in a large European city, in a not very low profile job, without any disguise whatsoever. I mean, this man would be recognisable to everyone in the whole world.
Then there's the crazy idea that the police officer who's spotted Lecter and thinks it's a good idea to get the reward for his arrest. Would he truly stay around Lecter, ... ...- just… a little unsatisfying somehow, like the audience is maybe being laughed at a little for falling for the whole thing. A third Hannibal Lecter film looks like it could be on the cards. I just hope that we don't have to wait another ten years for it. ...

Advantages: Kept you thinking,is he isn't he? Disadvantages: A bit predictable, but nonetheless good plot.
...Silence of the Lambs see's Hannibal Lecter (Sir Anthony Hopkins) free and enjoying life in Florence,Italy.
The way the film goes is lecter has made an enemy in Millionaire Mason Verger (Gary Oldman) by putting it bluntly, removing a large part of his face and feeding it to his dogs, so understandably Verger wants revenge by puttinga contract on Lecter's life. This is where Clarice Starling (Julianne Moore) appears in the film.
Verger having heard ... ...that she weirdley shared with Lecter, he wants her to do the deed in bringing him Lecter so he can get his sweet revenge (bst served a dish cold, they say, sorry).
Of course Starling manages to locate Lecter and yes there are some pretty awful, gruesome scenes and you do need a strong stomach for some. But the film also somehow makes light of some of the gorey parts, so you can handle the situation being addressed.
The worst bit for me in the whole ...

...taste of human flesh, Hannibal somehow still comes across as likeable, and I found myself really hoping that he gets away with it! I particualrly enjoyed the scenes showing his strangely close relationship with Clarice, which I found extremely powerful and moving. I would still reccommend that anyone who enjoyed 'Silence of the Lambs' go see this film. You may not think it's as good, you may think it's better. I went with 4 other people, and we all ...

...the end of the film Hannibal Lecter escapes. Thomas Harris when writing Hannibal could have gone the very much straightforward path of making it just a search and capture film, but he didn’t. He twisted the story into much more of a character piece, allowing us to do the one thing which Dr. Chiltern warns against in SotL – letting Hannibal Lecter get inside our heads.

Hannibal is indeed still around and living in Florence, Italy. ...how likely was it that Hannibal would ever be any good? Director after director passed on the project, and Jodie Foster opted out of recreating the role that made her a household name. Author Thomas Harris took almost a decade to write the source novel, safe in the knowledge that the film rights to whatever turgid piece of prose he rattled off would be snapped up instantly, that he would be paid an obscene amount of money for them, and that the book ... ...direction) and a claustrophobic atmosphere. Hannibal is nothing more than an action movie with added gore. Advantages: great storyline and actors Disadvantages: slightly different from the book
I read the book of Hannibal a few months ago, so unfortunately went to see the film with the whole plot fresh in my mind, which made me unfairly critical of it. I obviously can't say too much coz I don't want to give away the storyline, but basically Dr Hannibal Lecter (played by Anthony Hopkins), who escaped from custody in The Silence Of The Lambs, is on the run and is still killing (and eating) people. There are evil people trying to capture him ... ...evil people who want to kill him. Special Agent Clarice Starling (Julianne Moore), from the FBI, who interviewed Lecter previously, does her best to save him...
One of the first things I noticed was that they've bizarrely left out a few characters, one of them explaining the whole reason why Lecter behaves the way he does. They had to deviate from the plot of the book quite a lot in order to write these characters out, but it still works, and if ...

Advantages: Complex storyline and fantastic acting Disadvantages: Can be too complex for some, and those who haven't seen the first film may find it hard to follow the frequent references to it and so become lost
Hannibal is the stunning sequel to Silence Of The Lambs. A tense Psychological thriller with an enticing storyline, it can sometimes undo itself through its complications, but its an astoundingly good film.
I went to see it merely through peer pressure. My mates are more into horror films than I am, and the hype obviously induced them to want to see it. So I plodded along to make the numbers and set ready to watch yet another horror film. I was ... ...one. Sadly the plot was a little too complicated for my less than einstien mates who instead found joy in the occassional (though not as often as I expected) bloodbath scene. The story is set 10 years after Silence Of The Lambs, and follows on rather well, with frequent references to the original film. This does add an element of 'sequalism' to the film which is fantastic for those of us who have seen the original and can follow the story but sadly ...
