strange food for thought

Advantages: the dinner scene, acting, well shot
Disadvantages: a few plot holes, slow 1st hour

Critics are divided on Hannibal but a lot of them are comparing it to it's predecessor which is wrong as it's an entirely different film. Leceter has now ended up in Florence where he lives unknown and surrounded by some of the things he loves most such as art. Clarice's FBI career isn't going well and after a failed operation she takes the blame and is put back on Lecter's case. At the same time there is a plot to catch Lecter. This is being orchestrated ...
...that lets Lecter roam free. Hannibal is more a dark love story where one man protects a woman but in the most grusome ways by despatching anybody who may harm her in some way. Ridley Scott gives the film such a beautiful look it feels like a grand staged opera. The film's plotting has a few flaws but that's the trouble with condensing a 600 page book into 2 hours. You are drawn into the world so it's easy to forgive. Go see this film without any ...

Death In Florence and other places

Advantages: Completes the set (so far) for fans
Disadvantages: Unworthy as a stand-alone film

...from the previous formula where Hannibal Lecter’s skills were being used to catch other serial killers. Building on from the ending of “Silence”, where he is on the run, “Hannibal” deals with the FBI’s attempts to recapture him. Agent Starling, having blotted her copybook on a previous job that “could have gone better” is assigned to the capture of Lecter as her make-or-break mission. As one would ...
...to be found in what Hannibal could do, rather than what he actually does, although aficionados of giblets won’t be disappointed either. I haven’t read the book, but my wife tells me that the film is reasonably true to the original, with the exception of some of the gorier bits, which would never have even got an 18 certificate, and the ending. It would seem that the screenplay allows for possible sequels – now that’s something ...

Your favourite Cannibal is back

Advantages: Tremendous fun.
Disadvantages: Little chemistry between the leads. (Screenplay's fault?)

...thing... Impeccably polite cannibal Hannibal Lecter (Hopkins) is still at large after busting out of maximum security at the conclusion of 'Silence'. He now lives in Florence, where he is going for a job as the curator of a local museum (The previous curator has mysteriously disappeared...) This being a Ridley Scott movie, everything is immaculately shot, and Florence becomes a place of deep shadows and gloomy beauty. Meanwhile, back in the States, ...
...and the trap closes on Hannibal the Cannibal... This is all comic book stuff. Everyone's favourite erudite cannibal Vs Gary Oldman's faceless pederast is as entertaining as seeing The Joker go toe-to-toe against Ming the Merciless. Sir Tony plays Lecter again to perfection, slipping back into the character like a favourite smoking jacket. However, free from his cell and preyed on by even nastier and much less polite baddies, the character changes. ...

Anyone care for cooked brain yum yum yum

Advantages: a good film with a good story line
Disadvantages: you need to see silence of the lambs first

Hanibul, out now at the cinema is a film to the award winning silence of the lambs, the film depicts a doctor, a hanibul lector and a FBi agent, (who interviews lector in the silence of the lambs), who gets to know him mentally, and gains the trust of hanibul. Hannibal-Still A Cannibal Or Not

Advantages: good acting, limited gore!
Disadvantages: slow, not the best story

...(played by Gary Oldman) wants Hannibal just as much as the FBI, the reasons obvious. Being very rich, Merger has a huge price tag on the capture of Lecter. A policeman in Florence is convinced that Lecter is his home city, and decides that the three million dollar reward is rather tempting. More expectancy: I did really think that my eyes would be closed for quite a major part of the film due to the horrific scenes of killing. (Yes, I am a bit squeamish!) ...
...sometimes tedious dialogue, which meant that the film lost its speed, and became very slow at times. You may be tense at some points of the film, but do not expect to go in tense and come out tense. I thought that Lecter was this very sinister, creepy character, but the director seemed to have a lot of the camera on Lecter, and I felt that I was beginning to know him rather well, and he was losing his image as a sinister, creepy character. Ending: ...

Advantages: Superb direction, electrifying performances.
Disadvantages: Unpleasant in the extreme!

...my pleasure to report that Hannibal lives up to and indeed exceeds those expectations. Based on the Thomas Harris novel of the same name, Hannibal charts the further exploits of FBI Special Agent Clarice Starling (Julianne Moore taking over from Jodie Foster) and her eternal quest to track down and recapture the now infamous Dr Hannibal Lecter, a twisted and sadistic serial killer (masterfully played by Sir Anthony Hopkins). When the good doctor's ...
...quest leads to Florence where Hannibal has been living for the past 7 years and all manner of murderous mayhem ensues. To say anymore would be unfair as the plot makes numerous twists and turns throughout it's duration and a film like this is always best enjoyed with as little prior information as possible, so that's all you're going to get from me about the story. What I can tell you though is that Hannibal is a mesmerising piece of work. From ...

Hannibal

Advantages: Good acting, Good lines
Disadvantages: Not as chilling as Silence Of The Lambs

...The Lambs left off with Hannibal Lecter living in Florence. He has changed his name to Dr. Fell and is now posing as an art expert. Anthony Hopkins although playing an excellent part once again does not seem as chilling now as he did in Silence Of The Lambs. He is the same quiet, cunning and evil man just not locked up in a cage which, you would think would make it worse however, I found him to be far more sinister when dressed all in white and encased ...
...tell you that I think Hannibal is good but not as good as Silence Of The Lambs. The reasons being is that I found Silence Of The Lambs to be far more chilling and sinister with more bizarre killings and even though Anthony Hopkins was not the main killer, it was Buffalo Bill, I felt Hopkins was a far stronger character in the first of the two films. The book is far better than the film and I recommend Hannibal to anyone with a strong stomach as it ...

...scenes featuring Anthony Hopkins as Hannibal Lecter are marvels to behold, with his performance as the sophisticated serial killer, complete with classic one-liners, really injecting life into the film. The score for the film is so truly emotive that it actually takes your breath away in parts, particularly the fantastic Vide Cor Meum opera piece. Add to this the outstanding cinematography and it is as close to beautiful as it can get. The supporting ...

...I sat there and watched Hannibal and my stomach wasn't feeling at it's best. Don't get me wrong, I have seen worse stuff than what was on the screen, but it has always been over-the-top, comic book-style blood and guts like Evil Dead 2 or Bad Taste. With Hannibal, though, it is the context in which the blood and guts are presented that makes it so awkward...scattered in amongst a tense thriller. ...is entertaining. The persona of Hannibal Lecter changes somewhat in this film, with him portrayed as somewhat of an intellectual, which he indeed is, but it highlights his "better side" (lets face it, there can't be a worse side to eating people, can there?!) with his love of fine foods, wines and music. Disadvantages: Could have been a bit longer

...The story revolves around Dr Hannibal Lecter, the notorious murderer and cannibal, with three main characters who have vested interests in his capture. Mason Verger (Gary Oldman) is a pitiful yet twisted victim of Dr Lecter's seeking a torturous revenge for his self-butchered face. So the long awaited sequel to "Silence of the Lambs" has finally hit our screens. I'd heard mixed reviews about "Hannibal"; but I was determined to go see it anyway and boy am I glad I did. The interplay between the two leads is gorgeously played, and although some doubted that Julianne Moore would be able to do justice to the role created by Jodie Foster, she really does triumph in bringing the character even more depth. Anthony Hopkins is outstanding reprising the role of Dr Lecter. The plot moves along at ...
