Advantages: the first part was good and funny Disadvantages: the second part was awful
...Hancock''' When I watched Hancock in the trailers I expected a crazy movie with a crazy protagonist similar to The Mask. I was not disappointed Hancock is in no way your idealistic superhero. He isn’t Superman, the Hal Jordan Green Lantern or the Barry Allen Flash. He is a liquor drinking, woman grabbing, property destroying, crime fighting son of a gun. He was a menace to the society he wanted to protect. Needless to say, there was not much love ... ...the real world. Hancock is an antihero similar to the likes of Stone cold Steve Austin and Bart Simpson. He is good at heart but it doesn’t show in his exterior. He tries to do good but leaves a wake of destruction in his path. As much as Hancock is commendable for his intentions, the property damage cannot simply be ignored. The worst part of it is no one could arrest Hancock despite the countless number of subpoenas since no one has the power to ...

Advantages: The best movie of 2008...... So far Disadvantages: It needed to be longer, if thats a flaw
...now find myself having watched Hancock awarding the movie the highest accolade I can by stating that of the movies so far, Hancock is the best movie of 2008. I avoided everything I possibly could to do with Hancock because to be honest the trailer failed to impress me. To my surprise I laughed, enjoyed the action, and was almost caused to shed a tear watching this very different superhero movie.
In the past superhero movies characters are for the ... ..."Super Heroes". Hancock's superhero John Hancock (Will Smith) is not the traditional form of hero, he is an alcoholic, is verbally abusive, and has an appetite for destruction. While he wants to do good, nothing is ever quite thought through enough, while he might stop a group of armed thieves he may very well destroy half the city doing so. And this creates Hancock with a problem, he is not a superhero in the eyes of the public, he is a menace. ...

...it a go. Hancock is a story about a superhero called Hancock (Will Smith). Hancock isn't your normal superhero though. He drinks, he is lazy, he tends to break things a lot and no-one seems to like him much. We see him in the beginning of the film lying on a bench, drunk looking a bit like someone who is homeless. ...So when I heard about Hancock and the brief plot, I was intrigued to say the least. Here is what Hancock is about. Plot
John Hancock is a miserable, alcoholic superhero who attempts to save lives at his own choice but due to the fact he's flying whilst drunk, he's caused the city millions and millions of dollars in damage. One day Hancock saves a guy called Ray, who has a dream to save the world, and sees something in Hancock that no one else sees. ... ...for the better. Is it any good? I went in expecting not a lot, and about ten minutes in I turned to my mum and pretty much told her exactly what the twist was and how it was going to end. About half way through I got slapped, due to the fact I had managed to pretty much describe the whole thing. In my eyes' it's very predictable, however I really enjoyed it. Yes it's another of Will Smith's 'save the world' films, but he does them so well, however ...

***Synopsis***
John Hancock (Smith) is a drunk. Pure and simple, he drinks from the moment he wakes and is a bit of an obnoxious character. He has an attitude and people do not like him.
But there is one fundamental difference between John Hancock and the rest of the world. Hancock is a superhero. Yes, he flies, has superstrength and is bulletproof. But no-one likes him. He is rude, bad tempered and just generally nasty. He causes milions ... ...And along comes Hancock and saves his life. But rather than congratulate him, the crowd decide that he is in the wrong and start shouting at him. But Embrey is different, he actually thanks Hancock for saving his life and invites him into his home for a meal. There Hancock meets Mary Embrey (Charlize Theron) and feels some kind of strange attraction to this woman. Mary seems unsettled by Hancock and urges her husband to leave him alone, but Embrey ...

...shattered sense of identity?
Hancock is a surprising, interesting, maddening failure of a summer blockbuster; one which deserves credit for trying something bold and innovative, but one that ultimately fails to ignite any passion or joy from its audience. It's an admiral failure which employs the combined star power of Will Smith and Charlize Theron (but, let's face it, this is still the Will Smith show) well and throws a few nicely placed twists ... ...The main problem with Hancock is the fact that it switches between comedy and drama with reckless abandon, showing very little subtlety or grace in the transaction. Around half way through it becomes a completely different movie, abandoning all comedy for a darker tone - making the film feel extremely uneven. This isn't helped by long sequences that achieve nothing and some occasionally overwrought direction (the dramatic sequences are pretty heavy ...

Hancock is the story of a man with all the powers of a superhero but none of the manners.
