Advantages: Great songs, great acting. Disadvantages: The ugly guy from HSM.
Merry Christmas to everyone, I hope you all had a great time. The first DVD I saw that I got for Christmas was this wonderful DVD, but this film does have 1 let down, I'll get to that later on.
Plot
Based in 1962 in Baltimore, teenager Tracy Turnblad is like every other teen, but struggles with her weight. She has a dream to go onto the 'Corny Collins Show' which is probably the best show in Baltimore. Can someone who may not look like ...

Advantages: Fun, great musical numbers, happy film Disadvantages: None
...a good fun film, and Hairspray delivers on all counts. It has many songs within which get you tapping your feet and nodding your head to the beat. The cast belt out all the numbers, with Blonsky, Pfeiffer and Efron as stand-out singing performers in the film. However, it is not just the fun element which makes this film work. Within the fun, dresses, hair-dos and dancing there is a serious message throughout, one which is just a relevant today as ...

Advantages: Some good acting Disadvantages: Far inferior to the original
...release of a film called Hairspray starring Divine, Ricki Lake (before the chat show fame), Sonny Bono and Deborah Harry amongst others. I have to confess that this is one of my favourite films and one that for me has stood the test of time, to the point where in my mind at least it has become a classic.
I was therefore rather sceptical when I learned that this film had been remade in 2007 and I was intrigued when I discovered that the role of ...

Advantages: Great song and dance numbers performed by an enthusiastic cast. Disadvantages: A lack of character development and emotional depth.
It's 1962 and all Baltimore teen Tracy Turnblad wants is to appear on the "Corny Collins Show". But can a chubby girl from the wrong side of the tracks really make it onto TV? And if she does, will she be able to win the heart of local hunk Link Larkin and steal him away from his mean girlfriend Amber along with the title of "Miss Teen Hairspray"? And more importantly, can she challenge racial segregation on the local TV station and win the right ...

Advantages: Great songs and performances Disadvantages: The elders outshine the younger actors
...to correct a misconception. Hairspray is not exactly a remake of the John Waters film starring Ricki Lake. What it actually is, is based on a Broadway musical based on the original film, making this a distant relative rather than a sister product.
Set in the 60's and during a time where racial integration was merely an ideal held by outcasts and social misfits, Tracey Turnblatt is an overweight girl who wants to dance on a local dance tv show. ...

...do it!
A gloriously entertaining movie, Hairspray is, first and foremost, a study on intolerance and racism. It is a witty, humorous, and extremely fascinating movie that has earned the right to be called this year's best movie - whatever you do, don't miss it.
Hairspray has it all - great music, talented singers and dancers, loads of witty dialogue, brilliant acting... and a message that concerns us all. We've made it to the 21st century, but ...

Advantages: Full of unforgettable characters Disadvantages: If you don't like the ridiculous, this film is not for you
...hottest thing on TV. Hairspray follows the evolution of its central character, Tracy Turnblad (Ricki Lake) from everyday teen to TV dance show sensation.
Tracy Turnblad is a 'pleasantly plump' teen who proves that 'big is beautiful' when she enter the race for the title of Miss Auto Show 1963, and wins the hearts of all of Baltimore, whilst simultaneous managing to racially integrate local TV in the process! Phew!
The film is set against the ...

Advantages: GOOD ACTING Disadvantages: SOME SONGS NOT THAT GREAT
...New Year watching the dvd Hairspray 2007. I mention it's the 2007 version because Hairspay was originally made in 1988 by John Waters and started Divine, Sonny Bono and well- known chat show host Ricki Lane and was known for being one of filmmaker Waters' less outrageous movie and one of his most entertaining and accessible films. I have never seen that version or the musical theatre show based on that film that opened in Broadway in 2002 and can ...

This is a great film, well worth spending money on. The extra features on the DVD are brilliant, including a sing-a-long feature and deleted scenes.

Advantages: The Songs Disadvantages: Racist remarks

The first time i watched it i was very shocked to see the amount of racism involved, but my mum said it was normal for them to be racist when the original film was made.
Hairspray is a bout a young girl called Tracey turnblad.
Who has big hair, and to follow up on the hair, is also big dreams. She wanted to dance on the 'corny collins Show', but the programmes manager ...
