Groundhog day is a comedy and one of my all time favourite films. It stars Bill Murray as Phil Connors, a weatherman with Channel 9 Pittsburgh, and Andie MacDowell, who plays Rita his new producer. It starts off on February 1st, with them plus the cameraman travelling to Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania "The home of the Groundhog" for the Annual Groundhog day celebrations, which is the next day, 2nd Feb. ...the idea of having a Groundhog Day. Billy Murray and Andie McDowell share the billing in this romantic comedy. Both of them work for the same TV news company. Murray is the News Correspondent, and a surly one at that. He's dismissive, abrupt, uncaring, rude and cold character, who regularly disrespects his crew. ...new batch of comic actors. Groundhog day was one of his best in my opinion, an amiable comedy with a high charm factor, relying upon pure comdey rather than the current crop of lavatorial humour which Hollywood seems insistent upon throwing at us. As a result, thisis a movie which should have pretty much universal appeal, and for me, it certainly does. Disadvantages: Can get a little repetitive just for a few minutes, some of my friends found it very irritating

A groundhog is a beaver by another name. Bill Murray wakes up in a recurring nightmare whereby he has to introduce a beaver to his local community everyday so that it can predict the coming of spring. ...Pennsylvania he covers the annual groundhog festival. The groundhog can supposedly predict the coming of an early spring, either by seeing or not seeing a shadow. Phil hates covering the groundhog festival and feels that it is beneath him, he crew Larry the cameraman and Rita the producer do not seem to like him much either. I thought that Groundhog Day was a very original film - so if you are looking for originality, this is the one. As far as humour is concerned, Bill Murray is perfect for the role, being a "prima donna" weatherman who is too in love with himself to see that he is in a "dead end" job going no-where, and everyone hates him. The Film is, in many ways, like the classical shakesphere idea where the main character suffers the pain of self-realisation ... Read review
