Labeled as an action, romance, comedy, crime-thriller, it struggles to be overly effective in any one of them, and feels as if it spreads itself a little bit thin amongst all of them. ...all sure what you call Grosse Pointe Blank to be honest and despite seemingly being marketed as such when it was released, 'romantic comedy' isn't the label I would have attached to it. For sure, there are elements/a central theme of romance here, but mostly it's packed with some very black humour, a few scenes which wouldn't be out of place in a Tarantino flick including one very violent, bloody murder with a ball point pen and umm, yeah it's 'different'! ...

Cusack and Ackroyd are both freelance assassins who are quite happy to kill people for hire, they are not only in competition but also in dispute as Ackroyd want to form a union in order to protect their rights and stop different killers bidding for each others contracts while Cusack is against the idea, naturally when you get a dispute between killers it is not always polite negotiations. ...
...the whole business gets to combine visiting his old high school for a class reunion with a job he does not realise the emotions that this will stir or or the fact that Ackroyd will follow him in an attempt to finally settle matters.
