Advantages: Hard-warming, Interesting, Brilliant Story Disadvantages: Hard to put the book down!
Goodnight Mister Tom has always been one of my favourite stories from when I was younger. I remember my mum bought me the book for my Christmas one year after I watched the drama on TV and I loved it. The novel was actually written in 1981 by Michelle Magorian and the drama was first played on TV in 1998. The drama was directed by Jack Gold and I remember it being brilliant. I am however, going to review mainly on the story.

This made for TV film was first shown on ITV in 1998 and was winner of Most Popular TV Programme at the 1999 BAFTAS. It is set in a small village in England during the first stages of World War 2 and stars John Thaw (Inspector Morse, Kavanagh QC) in one of his most moving and heartwarming roles. The film is set in a small english village at the start of world war 2.
John Thaw plays the part of Tom Oakley, who had lived alone for several years following the death of his wife and son, and had become very set in his ways.
He is forced to take in a refugee from London called William Beech. William lived alone with his mother who treated him badly which had made him very nervous and wet the bed.
While staying with Tom he made friends with ... ...local doctor and his wife in the village and they became very good friends.
Tom relized after a short time that William could'nt read or write and set about the task of teaching him and the pair became very close . One day they received a letter from london saying that Williams mother wanted to see him, so he was put on a train to London, at the other end he was met by his mother who told him that she had a surprise for him. I think Goodnight Mr Tom will appeal to anyone who has been in a difficult situation. It tells the story of William and Mr Tom. William gets adopted by Mr Tom because he gets beaten by his Mum. Goodnight Mr Tom is an exciting and sad film because William has a difficult time with his family, but Mr Tom helps him by looking after him. I liked it particularly because it teaches us about love and war. I recommend Goodnight Mr Tom to anyone who has been through rough times. ...

I think Goodnight Mr Tom will appeal to anyone who likes old time stories and likes watching videos. It tells the story of Mr Tom who looks after William because his Mum beats him. Goodnight Mr Tom is a sad and postive film because William has been through alot and he gets adopted. I liked it particularly because it was an interesting story. I recommend Goodnight Mr Tom to a child who has been through alot or has known someone who is fostered. ...

...william nearly dies because of his evil mother who locks him in cupboard.
Mr Tom Saves william and they both go back to his home in the countryside where they are happy together again.

This film is based on WWll and the evacuees during the war. John Thaw plays Thomas Oakley as a Lonely man in a small village in England. Thomas Oakley lost his wife and child many years ago. As the whole village is taken up with evacuees he is asked if he could look after William Beech who is a 9 year old boy from London. Mr Tom finds out about Willies deprived and disturbing past and becomes involved in the boys life. Willie was a very nervous boy ... ...and write and sends him to the local school. A strong bond between the two is created and gets Mr Tom involved in future happenings. Willie recieved a letter from London addressed from his Mother to come back and live with her, he is in someway summoned to live with his mum. Goodnight mister Tom is set in 1939 at the beginning of world war two John Thaw plays Thomas Oakley who lost his wife and child when he was on convoy duty and after spending alot of grieving years on his own has to take in a evacuee called William Beech after spending many months together they warm to their ways and settle together. William is a shy boy as in the film it turns out his mum beats him.
