In "Gone in 60 Seconds" Nicolas Cage plays a reformed car thief, who is forced to go back into the business in order to save his younger brother who has managed to get himself into grief with the town's nastiest bad guy. In exchange for the life of his brother, Cage must steal and supply 50 different vehicles, as specified by the bad guy, within a period of just a few days. As time ticks on, Cage desperately has to balance his grand plans, with few ... ...are becoming ever closer to discovering the operation. The premise is quite simple - a race against time, battling against the odds to save the life of his brother. So did the film live up to the hype? Resoundingly - no.
Where the film goes fundamentally wrong is within the nature of the plot. Once Cage accepts the mission, a countdown appears at intervals on the screen, to point out how much time Cage has got left to carry out the mission. This ...

Advantages: Great film with plenty of extras to keep you occupied Disadvantages: Very formulaic in some ways
...all of his other work, Gone In 60 Seconds is described as 'high-octane', 'an action-packed thrill ride' and 'a hot, edgy action hit'. Despite the usual testimonials (which I'm sure must irritate Mr. Bruckenheimer just a little), this accomplishes exactly what it sets out to do. It thrills and excites the audience with action so pure and acute that the silence at the end of the film remains until you get your breath back.
Starring Nicholas Cage as ... ...familiar.
That set aside, Gone In 60 Seconds is a very enjoyable film and if you are willing to suspend your disbelief for just under two hours, it reaps rewards in many other ways. The action is an obvious drawing point and will appeal to anyone fond of Hollywood-sized stunts, rolls and crashes. The acting cannot be faulted and includes some great young talent in the form of Giovanni Ribisi (you may have seen him as Phoebe's brother in 'Friends') ...

I've been aware of the film "Gone in 60 Seconds" (GISS from now on) for years now. An old friend of mine used to rave about it when we were younger (much younger) despite the fact he could only remember one bit, and that involved one of those signs that scrolls across and gives out messages which was about 15 seconds worth of the entire movie. He could remember nothing of the plot in general except "it's about nicking cars". So, when I heard that ... ...to see what my friend was raving about without having to watch some crap mid-1970's low budget movie. Before I go any further, it has to be said that the original bears little resemblance to the updated version apart from the title and basic overall plot device of stealing cars - characters, settings etc. are for the most part, different. I managed to sit with my friend and watch the first 45 minutes of the original version a few weeks ago when it ...

...for - entertainment. Gone in 60 Seconds is a prime example of a fun film, slated by the critics for being badly made and wasting a superb cast. They seem to have viewed the fact that the film focuses on fast, beautiful, fast, expensive (did I mention fast?) cars as a bad thing, and whinged about just every aspect of the film they possible could. What they seem to have overlooked is that this film is not intended to be an incisive look at political ... ...search for 'The Ladies of Gone in 60 Seconds' (Ciao do not allow the posting of links in opinions, sorry).

I wasn’t sure about this movie as to whether renting it out or not, but curiosity got to me and I got a copy. I watched it this afternoon and now I’m glad I rented it! The film has fighting, violence, car chases, Angelina Jolie and loads of action. What more could a bloke want? Well, yes, sex, I know, well there is a bit of sex in the film but not enough to get excited over! This is the kind of film which you can relax in front of, forget ... ...action and special effects….a blokes movie then, and yes, I think it is, infact I’m sure it is. I’m trying not to offend any of you nice girlies out there (us blokes bow down to you lot, so why would I want to offend you!?) but it’s just jam packed with all the stuff us blokes love.
Now, I’ll give you a bit of the background of the film. However, if you don’t want to read that bit as you haven’t seen it ...

Gone in 60 Seconds is a great film, if you want fast cars, beautiful women and a great story line, this is the film for you.
The story follows Randolph "Memphis" Raines (Cage), who was the best car thief in Longbeach. His younger brother Kip grows up idealizing his brother, and then he gets involved himself. Kip takes a job, a boost, this means that he is given a list of the best cars out there and he has a certain amount of time to steal them all. ... ...steal this car something has gone wrong. He calls it his 'Unicorn' a creature that is impossible to capture. He steals and everything is going sweetly for about...ummm...a minute. Then comes the trouble, not much though, just the police some roadblocks and a helicopter. I will NOT tell you what happens, I think that I have given enough away already.
The actor is this film is first rate. Nicholas Cage is outstanding, and so is Vinny Jones, although ...

I decided to hire this out on video, after reading a lot of different opinions on the film, I thought I would see for myself. The star of the film is Nicholas Cage, who has appeared in many films, one of my favorites was Con-air. Nicholas plays (Randal Raines) his nick name is Memphis, he is a retired car thief who has to go back to stealing to save his brothers life, as he has got involved with a bad lot. He is given the task of stealing 50 cars ... ...film is not just for car lovers, even though I must admit there is some beautiful ones in the film. He gets together with some old friends in the know how to help him achieve the goal. He has a detective from his past watching his every move, which makes him very nervous. Memphis has a thing about a particular car, which is a 1967 Shelby mustang GT 500, which he has never been able to get his hands on. He manages to find one and names it Eleanor, ...

Advantages: Cars, driving, exitement Disadvantages: slightly poor story, but not that bad
How long will it take you to read this opinion?
More than 60 seconds?......in that time your car is gone.
Nicholas Cage Plays Memphis Raines, a reformed booster who gave up for the sake of his younger brother Kip, who his mother thought was sure to follow in his footsteps. left his friends and family behind, moved out of long beach and earned an honest living.
6 years later, he found out all that was for nothing. His brother messed up a boost, ... ...given him the job. He was not happy and so called in Memphis in a basic 'do this job or your brother dies' storyline. So he calls in all the old gang, including (vinnie jones) and they get to work.
And the task?......steal 50 cars in 3 days.
The first 49 seem to be done fairly effortlessly, although there are a few amusing hitch-ups, such as the dog eating 3 merc keys, people having sex in front of the window when the car is outside, this bit is ...

Advantages: Amazing cars raced and chased! Disadvantages: Simple storyline, not much character development.
I can't believe that I missed the opportunity to see this film in the cinema. It is definately one you have to watch on the big screen to fully appreciate it. I remember when it first came out, and I promised myself that I had to see it - unfortunately I didn't have a chance to while it was in the cinema so the other night I went down to Blockbusters and there it was! ...going to get. Gone In 60 Seconds isn't a bad movie, it's just not a very good one. The basic plot is this. A retired car thief Memphis Raines is forced back into the game to steal 50 cars in three days to save the life of his brother. He assembles a crew of old school thiefs as well as enlisting the talents of some new blood. All the while the clock is ticking and they have the police hot on their tail. Will memphis make it in time, save his brother ... ...can guess the outcome before the film starts. This is a very large ensemble movie with a lot of recognised faces. Cage has been doing these roles ever since he won the Oscar but he's always entertaining. Jolie looks bad and very trashy, shes also not really used that much. Robert Duvall as always brings some grounding to the affair but again hasn't got much to do. Delroy Lindo as the cop is also great and I don't why he isn't in more big movies. ...

The title may be gone in 60 seconds, and though the film lasts a lot longer that that, the fast paced action may well make the time fly by. Gone in 60 seconds in my view was the blockbuster of 2000, which is saying something since it was up against some stiff competition.
Nicolas Cage stars in this as Randolph "Memphis" Raines and was ones a notorious car thief in Longbeach. His little brother Kip has grown up and is now a car thief as Memphis once was. I must admit, I went to see it purely because of the gorgeous cast, namely Angelina Jolie and Nick Cage, plus there are cool fast cars in it that I know darn well I will never get to drive!
The storyline is basically about a kid who gets busted on a project to nick off with 50 cars. His boss threatens to kill him, but his retired car thief brother (Cage) reluctantly comes back to the trade to finish off the project his brother started. So...
He ... ...(steal) the 50 gorgeous cars,
But...
They didn't quite make the 50th car in time so they fail.
Did they get thrown into jail? Nope. The cop let him (Nick Cage) off as he saved his life and because he did it to save his brother.
Good movie? It was okay. Not too bad, but not too good either. Should I see it? Yes, but don't blame me if you don't like it. ...

Gone in 60 seconds is one such movie. While not delivering the action quotient that is the standard for a summer flick, it still manages to trade on the overly familiar style over substance factor. From the start this film has the air of a black comedy whilst still being one of the best action flicks I have seen in a long time. In this respect I am genetically biased, as this film must surely have been aimed at the male side of the cinema going audience.
