Advantages: Not bad action sequences Disadvantages: Not too enthralling
What can i say about this infamous film? The critics love it, the cinema goers love it,what can go wrong?Well, to be honest, i thought it was alright, really due to the incredible acting of Jooaquin Pheonix.
"Gladiator", Russel Crowe is good at playing his part but i'm still confused as we speak about what accent he really did have.He does make us feel really sorry for him and, especially after his wife and child is killed ,but, the plots lack of ... ...film down.
Joaquin on the other hand makes us feel disgust and hatred towards him, especially where his want for incest is concerned, and also in the way he cruelly tries to get as close as he can to his daughters son.
For the 2 of you who haven't seen the film it's set in the Roman Empire just as the emperor is dying. Maximus(Gladiator)is his best soldier and basically the son he wanted instesd of Joaquin and so he wants Maximus to carry on his ...

Advantages: Great fighting scenes Disadvantages: Abit slow at the start
Gladiator is a film set in Roman times and it is a story of a heroic soldier who fights for Rome and the two most important things to him are Rome and his family.
The film starts with a battle as Maximus the main star is about to lead the Romans into battle against the Vikings. He gives his side a loyal speech. He has a great friendship with the Empoeror and honours him and would never be disloyal to him. Once the battle won evryone is hailing Maximus ... ...up sellinging him to a Gladiator school trainer.
Now Maximus's fighting skills are required he is also unknown for how gooder fighter he really is. After a small match where he comes out triumphant he is recognised and he goes on to win another bigger battle. Now Maximus's trainer who use to be a Galdiator himself but was given freedom again by the previous Emperor who Maximus fought for tells him that they are going to Rome to fight in the Roman ...

Advantages: A true epic. Disadvantages: Drags in places
Make no mistake about it. Gladiator is a BIG film. Big enough to make Titanic look like the Blair Witch project in comparison. And it is not only a film of huge scale but also a film of great accomplishments: the film that propelled Russell Crowe into the Hollywood A-list, a film that reminds us just why we ever thought Ridley Scott was a good director in the first place, and a film that proves Oliver Reed was always more than everyone's favourite ... ...maintain one's interest throughout it's long running time due to its skillful blend of testosterone-fuelled action with romanticism and sensitive human drama. The CGI is breathtaking; certainly the most believable I have seen in a mainstream film for quite some time. Russell Crowe is perfect in the leading role but it is good ol' Ollie who steals the show, not only due to his excellent performance but also down to the fact that he gets the best lines ...

...I did manage to aviod Gladiator for several weeks after its release. I was persuaded to see it by my wife, who had heard all sorts of excellent reviews, etc. Well, seeing it was a great decision. The story follows a Roman General from being the great conquerer and a favourite of the Emperor to a lowly gladiator who narrowly escaped death in the order of the new Emperor. Fortunately for him he was the type of general who led his troops into battle ...

This movie is nothing short of brilliant, simply brilliant. It is honest in every way. Russell Crowe is so natural as Maximus (as he is in every role he undertakes). Joaquin Phoenix was a dynamite casting choice, and unlike many movie villains, he was complex and had such a wonderful history behind his actions. The whole cast was MADE to act with each other. The casting choices were perfect.
The movie is magical because it so easily makes the audience ... ...true but Rome was portrayed so wonderfully. Few movies (if any!) have been made that have been so believable in its atmosphere of the ancient, yet surprisingly advanced Rome (though its tastes for sex and violence might have been more than gruesome). However, Ridley Scott has toned down the gruesome aspect so that we can focus on the story at hand, which is moving and very enjoyable.
This has become the highlight of the movie industry for the summer, ...

Advantages: An epic, very entertaining Disadvantages: You might cry at the ending
When you realise that the film you are about to see is an epic, lasting over three hours you start to wonder "will I notice if my bum goes numb?". In this case the film could easily have been longer and you still wouldn't notice, such is the enjoyment factor. Admittedly there are moments when the plot slows down a little, but these work in the films favour as they build the characters and make waiting for the action all the more worthwile. The special ...

Gladiator is possibly one of the best action film's to date that have been released from Holywood. The film which is set during the end and aftermath of the reign of Marcus Aurelius is Historically accurate except for the Story. All the details such as leigionaires uniforms and formations were superbly recreated. What I most liked about the film was it's lack of gratuitous Violence. Despite the fact thatit was fairly bloodthirsty You could always ... ...wholeheartedly comend the director of photography. In most scenes of violence theey would show you most but not all of the action they provided the sounds and left it to the imagination.
With outstanding performances from Russel Crowe (Maximus) Joaquin Phoenix (Kommodus) Connie Nielson (Lucilla) and Oliver Reed (Proximo) who died during the film and the producers spent two million imposin Oliver Reeds face on to an actor using a computers. This is ...

Advantages: Great film well worth the watch EVERY time Disadvantages: Nothing
I have now seen Gladiator twice and I must say I LOVE it! With Russel Crowe starring as the actual gladiator the film is an amzing story which certainly got me going! The film based on a Gladiator fighting for his empire is a really interesting story, there are many sad parts which get you shedding the odd tear or two but there are also many better parts to the film, funny and interesting.

This film is brilliant........If you have not seen it yet, get it on video now.
The film is set in Roman times and is about the Roman General of the North
"Maximus", He is a very close friend of the then Emperor who was old and dying, After Maximus conquered Germania the Emeperor wanted him to follow in his foot steps and be the Emperor of Rome and not his incestuous son, (who is power mad).
The Emperor tells his son that he wants Maximus to take ... ...so he takes over the throne instead.
The new Emperor then tries to get Maximus killed but he escapesand runs off to save his family but he gets there too late, They have already have been killed.
He then gets pickup by a slave trader who is played by (OLIVER REED)and becomes a Gladiator.
Maximus is a brilliant tactition and beats everyone and is soon on his way to the Colosseum in Rome for the final showdown with the new Emperor.
The film has ...

The time soon comes when Proximo's troupe is called to Rome to participate in a marathon of gladiator games held at the behest of the new emperor, Commodus.
Once in Rome, Maximus wastes no time in making his presence known, and is soon involved in a plot to overthrow the emperor with his former-love ... ...type with hidden emotions. What We Do In Life Echoes In Eternity. - Roman General Maximus (Russell Crowe)

My Opinion:
OK, now this is truly another epic film, it is kinda the new Hollywood remake of Spartacus, and although it is good, ... ...there are some great individual gladiator scenes). If you are looking for a complete film with loads of battle scenes then you will be disappointed with this film, as after the first it is more about single one on one fights.
Now then the Gladiator fights, these are quite graphic, you get to see blood flow and people being killed and arms chopped off, so is quite realistic and good if you are into that kinda thing. You will not be disappointed with ...

...mission by becoming an unidentified gladiator in the Roman Colosseum. The new Emperor, Commodus is shocked when he sees Maximus alive. Maximus now knows he cannot kill Commodus straight away so he meticulously premeditates his revenge (almost like in Hamlet...a strikingly similar tale!)
This story is improved more by its special effects, highlighting Rome's ancient Coliseums.
My response and conclusion
The cinematography can be compared with movies ... ...mimics the needs of the viewer: a compelling story, brilliant acting, excellent sub-plots and the best two and a half hours a person could wish for! This is the movie which launched the career of a now very successful Russell Crowe. In the portrayal of Maximus' character Russell: looked the part, dressed the part, spoke the part and even showed a great range of emotions!
In conclusion this movie has a firm grasp of history, bloodshed (which is always ...

Gladiator has to have been one of the longest movies that I have ever sat through - but I definately have to say that it was worth it! The film was filled with action, blood, guts, the lot - but what really got me was the emotion that the actors displayed - you could feel the pain with them, and experience their feelings too.
This movie would be ideal for anyone - I loved it, my parents loved it and not one person that I have met has complained!
