The special effects were amazing making the film seem as though they have rebuilt Rome. The acting is also superb with the villian one I grew to hate and hate through out the film. With evry word he spoke my hatered grew. Russell Crowe my have played his best ...
Advantages: Russel Crow. Oh, and all of the above. Disadvantages: Too much tiger killing.

Review of Gladiator (DVD)
...And now?. He presents us Gladiator like
the fight of a man against the power, a very old story very
times reflected on the screens. The films counts with many
action stages especially highlight the first battle against
germans but it isn´t sufficient because the script is so weak.
The result: a enterteinment film thanks to its action stages but
don´t arrives at the level of classical films of the genre. ...
i was a bit skepticul of this film before seeing it as i was not realy in to all that ancient rome stuff. after seeing it though, i felt soooo different as this a great story focused around a formidable fighter of the roman empire called maximus. he is to be killed after after being accused of treason after correctly identifying the emperors son as his murderer. he then fights his way up after escaping through the colleueum and then eventually joins ...

Review of Gladiator (DVD)
Advantages: good to look aT Disadvantages: NO SCRIPT
Gladiator is a very boring film. I am probably the only person on the face of this earth who thinks this. But it is true. Gladiator is a very visual film, as are most of Ridley Scott’ film’s. Unfortunately it has a very poor script. It is so predictable and full of clichés. Russell Crowe does nothing more than grunt his way through the whole movie. He must also be on some sort of illegal substance because every five minutes he seems to be floating ...

Advantages: Special effects, Epic sweep. Disadvantages: A bit gory for some tastes
I have just been to the cinema with my wife to watch gladiator. What a fantastic spectacle it is. The opening battle scene in Germania was stunning if a little gory with its special effects. It was so real and involving that I found that my hands (like those of maximus) were covered in a cold sweat.
The villan of the piece (the young Ceaser) was rather good too. The sort of person who can make your skin crawl with his false friendliness.
In all ...

Review of Gladiator (DVD)
Having seen Russell Crowe in such classics as Romper Stomper and LA Confidential I couldn’t wait to see this. The film is entertaining following the politics of the great Roman Empire and the dirty tricks used by an Emperor to take the throne, and the General who is made protector shortly before the new ruler comes to power. In order to secure his throne the emperor orders the death of General Maximus and his family. From a bloody fight, the general ... ...gladiator. His success takes him to Rome where he can defy the imperial despot and take revenge for his family.
The fight scenes are awesome if a little strange (watch for the camera speed) but the film takes some sudden turns into utter confusion with dream scenes and visions, but this really doesn’t let it down. ...

Advantages: Vicious swordplay and a beautiful Connie Nielsen Disadvantages: Cheesy Ending
...ever seen one of those gladiator movies?" This film from Ridley Scott puts paid to that. It's excellent in almost every respect and grabs the attention right from the start. The plot is uncomplicated: Maximus (Russell Crowe), the star general of Rome is entrusted by the outgoing Emperor Marcus Aurelius (Richard Harris on top acting form) to give Rome back to the people to ensure that his evil son Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix) doesn't get into power. ... ...new role as slave and gladiator as he plots his revenge against Commodus. Highlights include an excellent Richard Harris at the start, plus Oliver Reed in his best role yet as the manager of the gladiators. The best acting prize however goes to Joaquin Phoenix who manages to combine with great effect Commodus' smiling attempts to gain favour among the people with his increasingly demented and evil episodes. The battle scenes transfix you, Ridley ...

Review of Gladiator (DVD)
Advantages: Great old style movie Disadvantages: Not the classic some made out
...in hand really).
Although Gladiator attempts to be an exposé of corruption in the Roman government, it basically turns into a story of Maximus' revenge against incest practitioner Phoenix, playing the pathetic Caesar. The stand out moments in Gladiator are most definitely the action scenes, and they thankfully give the cliched and some times pretentious script something to hide behind. The special effects are good, although there still seems to ... ...his last role. Gladiator may not be the classic that some have made it out to be, but it takes a good stab at reaching that status. There are just too many flaws, particularly the 'lets tie things up quickly and easily' ending, to elevate this into the all time greats. However, If you go without believing the hype, you'll enjoy this as an intelligent and often thrilling ride back to Roman times. ...
This is a brilliant moving film full of emotion and thought provoking scenes. It really brings across the horrors of the Roman times and, as I unfortunately study this at school, my teacher says that it is exactly as it would have been!!! I loved the whole film but even so I had a favourite bit and thatw as the bit at the end when the main character is dying and you see his visions of his child and wife. !!!!G L A D I A T O R!! This is a must see ...
This film rocks, it is as good a shot at an epic as I have seen in years. Although there are fairly dubious performances from Phoenix, Crowe kicks butt, both in the arena and with his performance. The main roblem with this flm is the dialogue, whic, at times threatens to undermine what is, in essence,a powerful concept and a visually stunning work. Phrases such as, 'But Dad, I only wanted tyou to respect me' simply do not ring true. To be honest, ...
The Gladiator is a blood filled film with some gory scenes. The graphics of the film are excellent and it is a good film to watch. The film is themes are friendship, bravery and of course good versus evil.
The begining scene is one of the best I have evere seen. It is action pact and exciting. The film is quite complecated but it is still a good watch even if you don't get the plot.
I would recommend this film to anyone above the age limit set. ...
