In the near 17 years since its transmission, we have seen films such as 'The Blair Witch Project' (imagine how effective that would have been if you ... ...television shows such as 'The Day Today' and 'Brass Eye', and all the while the worldwide phenomenon of 'reality tv' (with its manipulation via editing of supposedly 'true' footage) has become the cathode ray staple of the age. As a race, as a nation, we have become far more media-conscious...possibly harder to deceive...and yet still collectively dumber. Go figure. And today, still 'Ghostwatch' casts its shadow. Advantages: A masterstroke of genius Disadvantages: A bit pricey

As Ghostwatch begins you join Michael Parkinson in a studio with Dr Lin Pascoe, the two of them discuss the paranormal briefly before Michael introduces the audience to the rest of the crew. In the studio Mike Smith answers the phones, when people call in to tell their supernatural stories. On location Sarah Greene and Craig Charles are based in a house that is haunted by a rather mischievous entity that the family have called "pipes".

The effect of Ghostwatch was catastrophic, by the Monday after screening an order was placed on Ghostwatch preventing it from ever being screened again by the BBC. Because apparently an estimated 50% of the audience had no clue this was a drama. As the story unfolded elderly viewers had heart attacks and other similar ailments, pregnant women went into shock and gave birth prematurely and one young man so affected by what he saw as the end ...

Advantages: Stands the test of time Disadvantages: Acting is a tad wooden
THIS WAS NOT REAL!
If you know this isn't real it's still scary. Actual known presenters with what seem like real people in a real scary situation - An active poltergeist centered around 2 young girls and a lone mum trying to cope with a nerve jangling time. In the studio we have friendly Micheal Parkinson aka Parky with the Chief Paranormalist Lady Doctor. On Phones is Mike Smith. Out in the field we have Craig Charles to provide a few light moments ... ...real life wife of Mike Smith.
We have a dynamic with Parky as the voice of reason, Mike Smith fearing for the safety of his Ghostbusting wife, Sarah in the path of a scary and active ghost and Craig Charles to relieve heavy moments. We are introduced to the household, Mum and 2 daughters.
